"Ganch" was the nickname of a clone trooper commander who served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. He was assigned to Jedi Master Bolla Ropal, and worked closely with the Jedi Master's Padawan learner, Tyzen Xebec. While overseeing construction of the Temple of Eedit, a Galactic Republic base on Devaron, Ganch and Xebec were caught up in an assault launched by agents of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
The character was introduced in the first installment of the webcomic The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, published in 2009.
Ganch wielded dual DC-17 hand blasters, which he had holstered across his chest. He also sported Phase I clone trooper armor — with a pauldron that entirely encircled his neck — decorated with distinctive red markings. The Commander was equipped with a set of macrobinoculars. He also carried an emergency med-shot syringe. [source: wookiepedia]
It's interesting to note that Sideshow Collectibles Clone Commander Ganch 1/6th Scale Phase I and Phase II helmets have slightly different markings ;p Ganch only appeared in the webcomics in Phase I armor and not in the films so the Phase II helmet design is a bonus
Although this is yet another repaint, I like this particular paint scheme and also the front, chest-mounted holsters which makes this clone commander a nice variation from the other that have already been released and previewed.
Too bad this particular Clone Commander Ganch figure is part of a limited run production. Let's see how one can get their hands on this ;p
Ganch chose to keep his head shaved, and maintained a thick mustache and goatee. Along his left temple were three large scars. He referred to his troops as his "boys," and proved to be an effective motivator when overseeing the construction of the dam on Devaron.
Artist Tom Hodges modeled Ganch's front, chest-mounted holsters in the same style as those worn by famous gunfighter Doc Holliday. By giving him a larger pauldron and a different pattern on the helmet, he made Ganch look different from other clone commanders.
