Mezco Toyz 2005 released highly accurate Mike Mignola comic book Hellboy action figure

I really like Mike Mignola's ART :)

My recent toy blog post of Jakob Westman's custom hand-made Playmobil Hellboy figures (check out the post HERE) made me go back and revisit the Mezco Toyz Hellboy action figures I had bought some time back. Being quite the fan of Mike Mignola's art and the comics he did (Rocket Raccoon, Phantom Stranger, Gotham by Gaslight, Cosmic Odyssey, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, Ironwolf, Coppola's Dracula, Aliens: Salvation, Batman: Legends - Sanctum, all before Hellboy which first appeared in 1993), I wanted to see Mike's 2-D art get translated / interpreted into 3-D form and these Mezco Toyz Hellboy 7-inch action figures were among the best there was out there. The sculpting of the figures were made to replicate Mignola's signature drawing style.

Hellboy is a fictional character, a comic book superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. The character first appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2 (August 1993), and has since appeared in various eponymous miniseries, one-shots and intercompany crossovers. The character has been adapted into two live-action feature films in 2004 and 2008 that starred Ron Perlman in the title role, and two straight-to-DVD animated films, as well as two video games – Asylum Seeker and The Science of Evil.

Girls just wanna have FUN :) Phicen 1/6th scale Female Seamless Body 12-inch Figure ooh-la-la

These are the latest 12-inch offerings by Phicen. It is their latest 1:6 scale Female Seamless Body - pale skin with mid-size breast version (Item No. PLMB2012-02). Their 12-inch female figures without visible joint lines are improving with each new batch and these actually look much nicer than their previous releases (my fondness for redheads notwithstanding).

These Phicen 1/6th scale Female Seamless Body 12-inch Figures will come with 33 points of articulation with a height of approximately 28CM and weigh 0.208kg. On the basis of the old products of theirs, the necks of these mid-sized breast figures can rotate 360 degrees for the purpose of improving the simulation of the figure. Phicen has also added a metal piece inside the elbow joint which prevents the arm from breaking easily. It also looks more natural when the elbow is bent backwards.

Phicen 1/6th scale Female Seamless Body 12-inch Figure PARTS LIST: Body 1 PC, Head sculpt 1 PC, Hands 3 PAIRS / 6 PC, Bare feet 1 PAIR, Bikini 1 SET. Scroll down to see more pictures as well as the other offering of the tan skinned mid-sized breast version with the blond hair ;p

Proof that Hot Toys Iron Monger is NOT 1/6th scale no matter what they try to say otherwise

Now that Hot Toys is finally going to release their Iron Monger limited edition collectible figure (slated for October 2012 it seems) from the Iron Man film - see previous post, there's something that everyone should know sooner rather than later - i.e. The Hot Toys Iron Monger is NOT 1/6th scale. Hot Toys repeatedly mentioning so doesn't make it so. At best, the Hot Toys Iron Monger is 1/7th scale. Why do I say so? Check out the pictures below and see for yourself :)

Here's a screen grab of Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane admiring the Iron Monger from outside before he climbs into the armor suit and causes lots of chaos and mayhem. Note the size / height of the Iron Monger armor suit next to Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges).

Custom Hand-made Playmobil Hellboy Figures by Jakob Westman - This is ART and one-of-a-kind

Jakob Westman is an artist / professional from Sweden who made these Playmobil customs of his all-time favourite comic character Hellboy (check out his deviantart profile HERE). He used regular Playmobil Police Officers which he then reworked completely into this cartoony version of Hellboy. And these Hellboy Playmobil customs really will blow your mind. They are simply awesome and very well made. All these pictures belong to Jakob Westman and I just wanted to share his stunning artwork with all fans of Playmobil and Hellboy as well as anyone who can appreciate GREAT ART

click the picture to have a bigger and better view

How FANTASTIC are they? After Jakob made the first three figures, the entire set was commissioned by the Mignolas and the only ones there are are now with them. That is something to tell your kids and grandkids right?

Sideshow 1/6 scale Shock Trooper, Commander Bacara, Cody, Bly & 501st Legion Clone trooper

The Great Jedi Purge, or Order 66 or Operation: Knightfall, is a major event in the Star Wars storyline. It is officially documented as a plot element in the 2005 film "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith", and is further referenced in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

In the film, the Jedi are nearly exterminated by the order of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, with only Obi-Wan Kenobi, Quinlan Vos, Shaak Ti, General Rahm Kota, Kazdan Peratus, A'Sharad Hett, K'Kruhk, T'ra Saa, Tholme, Jax Pavan, Corwin Shelvay, Kai Hudorra, Dass Jennir, Na Noirrah, Yoda, and Kai Justiss are known to survive. The first person to be issued this order was Clone Commander Cody, who was under the command of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, who survived.

Review II: Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6 scale Clone Commander Bacara 12-inch Figure

I love me some more Bacara :)

CC-1138, also known as "Bacara," was a clone marshal commander who served in the Grand Army of the Republic. Upon completion of his ARC (Advanced Recon Commando) training, CC-1138 used his newly acquired knowledge to turn the Galactic Marines into a highly efficient ground unit, and the Marines eventually earned a reputation as ferocious fighters.

Eventually he was assigned to Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi, and the two warriors developed a grudging respect for each other while fighting side-by-side through numerous campaigns. While stationed on Mygeeto, Bacara was given Order 66 by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and, along with his fellow Marines, gunned down Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi.

I'm so glad Sideshow Collectibles has managed to do such a fine job with the Militaries of Star Wars series. They have been hitting home runs after home runs with every release of their armored troopers from the Star Wars universe. EXCEPT for the crappy bodies they use that suffer from loose joints and weak ankles. They fall down at every pose and every turn AarrrRgggGHhh Other than that, I still have to say "Keep it the good work Sideshow BUT please improve on the 12-inch base bodies you use."

Preview Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars Episode I Phantom Menace 1/6 Padawan Obi-Wan figure

Even as a young Jedi Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the embodiment of Jedi ideals, both wise and strong. His patience and keen powers of observation have served him well as one of the Jedi Order's most masterful negotiators. These qualities are matched in measure by his swiftness and skill with a lightsaber, making him Master Yoda's first choice for many unconventional missions. Dependability and trustworthiness are traits the Jedi Council has come to associate with Obi-Wan for his loyalty to the Order and to the Republic.

Accompanied by his mentor, Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan travels to the planet Naboo, assigned to negotiate with Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. Unfortunately, the Jedi must abandon their mission and flee Naboo when the Sith Lord Darth Sidious issues an order to have them killed.

After rescuing the leader of Naboo, Queen Amidala, their ship is badly damaged, forcing them to touch down on the desert planet of Tatooine. In the settlement of Mos Espa, Qui-Gon and Padme first encounter the slave child, Anakin Skywalker. Immediately, the Jedi knight senses a strong presence of the Force in young Anakin and believes that he might be the prophesied 'Chosen One' who will bring balance to the Force. In spite of Qui-Gon's confidence in Anakin's potential, the Jedi council refuses his request to train him as a Jedi.

Preview Soldier Story 1/6 scale US Army 2nd Infantry Division 12" Figure in South Korea 1952

The Korean War (Korean: 한국전쟁 or 조선전쟁, Hanja: 韓國戰爭 or 朝鮮戰爭; 25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) was a war between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It was primarily the result of the political division of Korea by an agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War at the end of World War II. The Korean Peninsula was ruled by the Empire of Japan from 1910 until the end of World War II. Following the surrender of the Empire of Japan in September 1945, American administrators divided the peninsula along the 38th parallel, with U.S. military forces occupying the southern half and Soviet military forces occupying the northern half.

Although reunification negotiations continued in the months preceding the war, tension intensified. Cross-border skirmishes and raids at the 38th Parallel persisted. The situation escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950. It was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.

Just looking at this figure gives me the chills. Feeling cold?

With the outbreak of hostilities in Korea during the summer of 1950, the 2nd Infantry Division was quickly alerted for movement to the Far East Command. The division arrived in Korea, via Pusan on 23 July 1950, becoming the first unit to reach Korea directly from the United States. Initially employed piecemeal, the entire division was committed as a unit on 24 August 1950, relieving the 24th Infantry Division at the Naktong River Line.

Incoming from ZCWO & Iminime: 1/6th scale "A Better Tomorrow" Mark Lee 12-inch Figure

A Better Tomorrow (Chinese: 英雄本色; Mandarin Pinyin: Yīngxióng běnsè) is a 1986 Hong Kong action film directed by John Woo and starring Chow Yun-fat, Ti Lung and Leslie Cheung. The film had a profound influence on the Hong Kong film-making industry, and later on an international scale. Although it was produced with a tight budget and was relatively unknown until it went on screen (due to virtually no advertising), it broke Hong Kong's box office record and went on to become a blockbuster in Asian countries. It is highly regarded, ranking at #2 of the Best 100 Chinese Motion Pictures.

This story is the tale of two brothers: A reforming ex-gangster (elder brother Sung Tse-Ho) tries to reconcile with his estranged policeman brother (younger sibling Sung Tse-Kit played by Leslie Cheung), but the ties to his former gang are difficult to break. Along the way are plenty of heists, double-crosses, and shoot outs.

Chow Yun-fat played Mark 'Gor' Lee, a high-ranking member of the counterfeiting group, who was the best friend and partner in crime of Sung Tse-Ho (Ti Lung). Now from ZCWO and Iminime will come this 1/6th scale "A Better Tomorrow" Mark 12-inch Figure with an amazing head sculpt of Chow Yun-fat as Mark Lee (NOT the Singaporean actor)

Incoming: DAM 1/6 USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure

"Jarhead" is a 2005 biographical drama war film based on former United States Marine Anthony Swofford's best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. It was directed by Sam Mendes, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Cooper. The title comes from the slang term used to refer to U.S. Marines (sometimes by Marines themselves).

Anthony "Swoff" Swofford enlists in the Marines in the late 1980s. He malingers during boot camp, but makes it through as a sniper, paired with the usually-reliable Troy. The Gulf War breaks out, and his unit goes to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. After 175 days of boredom, adrenaline, heat, worry about his girlfriend finding someone else, losing it and nearly killing a mate, demotion, latrine cleaning, faulty gas masks, and desert football, Desert Storm begins. In less than five days, it's over, but not before Swoff sees burned bodies, flaming oil derricks, an oil-drenched horse, and maybe a chance at killing. Where does all the testosterone go?

Now from 1/6 manufacturer DAM comes this 1/6th scale USMC in the Persian gulf war (Operation Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch figure with real like head sculpt resembling Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with 12-inch action body, OD green t-shirt, Desert camouflage BDU (battle dress uniform) shirt and trousers, BDU belt, Desert camouflage jungle hat, PASGT helmet, Desert camouflage PASGT cover, PASGT flak jacket with Desert camouflage PASGT flak jacket cover, NBC suit, Panama outsole all-leather combat boots.

Preview VTS 1/6th scale Zombie Killer 12-inch Figure (Tallahassee from Zombieland?)

Zombieland is a 2009 American zombie comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as survivors of a zombie apocalypse. Together they take an extended road trip across Southwestern United States in an attempt to find a sanctuary free from zombies.

The main characters do not use each other's real names, but identify themselves using place names (Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, Little Rock) that relate to them. This includes Columbus's neighbor, named 406 after her room, and his fictional sexual conquest "Beverly Hills". There are exceptions in Bill Murray playing himself, and Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker, whom Columbus identifies as a "Zombie Kill of the Week" winner. At the end of the film, Wichita tells Columbus that her real name is Christa.

This is the VTS upcoming release: Zombie Killer VM-008 which will include a 1/6 scale real like head sculpt, 12-inch action figure body, cowboy hat, gray long-sleeved shirt, snakeskin jacket, tactical vest, double pistol magazine pouch, left and right hand holsters, shotgun holsters (left and right), shotgun shell pouch (with 4 shells), black tactical belt, black leather belt, blue jeans, cowboy boots, 870 shotgun x 2, M1911A1 pistol, P226 pistol

Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6 Clone Commander Bacara 12-inch Figure Review 1

Commander Bacara, also known by the numerical designation 1138, was a clone commander who worked alongside General Ki-Adi-Mundi against Separatist droid armies on the Outer Rim planet Mygeeto. Though he fought alongside the Jedi in numerous battles, Bacara's ultimate loyalty was to the Republic and its Supreme Chancellor. When Palpatine contacted him personally and executed Order 66, Bacara carried out the command without question. He and his fellow Galactic Marines opened fire on Ki-Adi-Mundi, killing their general.

This is the recently released Sideshow Collectibles Militaries of Star Wars Sixth Scale Clone Commander Bacara 12-inch Figure. Sideshow is getting good at producing these armor troopers of the Star Wars universe and the clone army is really growing in size figure by figure.

The Sideshow Collectibles Militaries of Star Wars Clone Commander Bacara Sixth Scale Figure features: Modified Phase II Helmet, Articulated Armored Body with over 30 points of articulation, Detailed Fabric Bodysuit, Highly Detailed Full Body Armor Set with Revised Shoulder Pauldron, Fabric Kama Command Skirt, Fabric Chest Pauldron, boots and weapons.

Preview: DID 1/6 United States Marine Corps Dress Blues / Ceremonial Guard 12-inch figure

The Uniforms of the United States Marine Corps serve to distinguish Marines from members of other services. Among current uniforms in the United States Armed Forces, the Marines' uniforms have been in service the longest. The Marine Dress Blue uniform has, with few changes, been worn in essentially its current form since the 19th century.

The Marine Corps dress blue uniform is the most formal of a Marine's uniforms, and is often referred to as "Dress Blues", due to the color (as distinguished from the green and khaki service uniforms). It is also the most recognizable uniform of the Marine Corps, often seen in recruiting advertisements. It is often called "Dress Blues" or simply "Blues". It is equivalent in composition and use to civilian black tie.

DID will be releasing this 1/6th scale US Marine Corps Dress Blues / Ceremonial Guard "Tony" 12-inch military figure which will come with: 1/6th scale "Tony" head sculpt with New All Era 12-inch figure body, White Barracks Cover, Khaki Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt, Khaki Tie, Tie Clip, White Belt with Gold Buckle, Sky Blue Trousers with "Blood Stripe", White Trousers, Dress Blue Greatcoat, Midnight Blue Coat, Two Sets of Insignia, Ceremonial Bayonet & Scabbard, Sword (metal) with Highly Detailed Engraving, Sword Scabbard, M1 Garand Rifle (Wood and Metal), New Style Shoes

Hot Toys "The Dark Knight" 1/6 Gotham City Police Department S.W.A.T. Team Member

continued from previous post...

Here's a look at the Hot Toys "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team member as seen in the 2008 Christopher Nolan Batman film. Everything you see here in this post is from the Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon (S.W.A.T. suit version) Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure Set (reviewed earlier HERE and HERE) except for the head sculpt ;p

I didn't want to put the helmet and googles on the Hot Toys 1:6 Lt Jim Gordon figure because he would still need to have a balaclava over his face to be accurate. So what I did was to switch the Hot Toys Jim Gordon head sculpt with this one for a complete S.W.A.T. look. This 1:6 head sculpt is from the Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale COBRA Saboteur Firefly 12-inch figure (see the pictures HERE) but it certainly looks just as good here as well.

Scroll down to see the turnaround views and more pictures of this Hot Toys "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team member which was previously 1:6 scale Lt Jim Gordon. Hot Toys Jim Gordon's head sculpt was used to kitbash a regular plain clothes police officer figure instead -  see my previous post. This way, I get two figures out of one purchase and I'm a happier man for it. See S.W.A.T. and Jim Gordon standing side-by-side at the end of this toy blog post.

Kitbash 1/6 "The Dark Knight" Lt. James "Jim" Gordon wearing plain clothes (not S.W.A.T.)

I've reviewed the Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon (S.W.A.T. suit version) Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure in the previous posts HERE (box packaging and contents) and HERE (fully kitted out Jim Gordon in S.W.A.T. attire) but it isn't complete until I've kitbashed a Gotham City Police Department lieutenant James "Jim" Gordon 12-inch figure in civilian attire i.e. his normal working clothes. So here he is :) I present to you 1/6 scale Jim Gordon in suit and tie, and wearing his normal glasses which was included in the Hot Toys Exclusive set but looks best with this attire.

Except for the Hot Toys 1/6th scale Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon head sculpt which is exceptional and one of the reasons why I had to have this figure plus the glasses he wears, everything else you see is put together i.e. kitbashed from other available sources and manufacturers. The base 12-inch body is actually a Hot Toys TTM18 1/6th scale TrueType Body - Caucasian Male (Narrow Shoulder Version) - see pictures HERE and HERE. I cannot remember where the suit is from but it does look good on Gordon. Scroll down to see more pictures of kitbashed Lt. Jim Gordon.

Review II: Hot Toys Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6 Lt. Jim Gordon (S.W.A.T suit) 12" Figure

continued from previous post...

This is my second part review of the recently released Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon (S.W.A.T. suit version) Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure which I managed to get from the recently concluded 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2) and what else can I say? The 1/6th scale head sculpt of Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon is simply stunning in its resemblance to the actor and looking at the pictures, you really cannot tell whether this is a screen grab / shot from the film or an action figure. Don't believe me? Check out the pictures for yourself :)

The pictures are much bigger in its original size which offers a much more detailed look but blogger can only load the pictures up to this size so if you were to click on the pictures, you'll get a much better view ;p

I had already covered the box packaging and contents in the previous post. This latest toy blog post is to show off the fully attired and equipped Hot Toys Exclusive S.W.A.T. suit Jim Gordon 12-inch figure with the aforementioned weapons and accessories. So when was Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) Lieutenant James "Jim" Gordon thus attired? Read on to find out...

Review 1: Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6 Lt. Jim Gordon 12" Figure

This is the recently released 1/6th scale Lt. Jim Gordon 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure (S.W.A.T. Suit Version) from The Dark Knight movie by Hot Toys that was one of three 2012 Toy Fairs Exclusive item. I managed to get mine from the 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2).

In the 2008 superhero film "The Dark Knight" directed, produced, and co-written by Christopher Nolan, Gary Oldman stars as James Gordon, a lieutenant in the Gotham City Police Department and one of the city's few honest police officers. He forms a tenuous, unofficial alliance with Batman and Dent. When the Joker assassinates Police Commissioner Loeb, Mayor Garcia gives Gordon the position.

I've wanted a 1/6th scale James "Jim" Gordon figure since "Batman Begins" (the first of the Batman trilogy films by Christopher Nolan) and was quite pleased that Hot Toys finally decided to produce and release a 1:6 scale version of Gotham City Police Commissioner Gordon. This comes after countless Hot Toys Batman and Joker 12-inch figures, with the Scarecrow and Two Face / Harvey Dent figures also being released as well. The fact that this is a S.W.A.T. Suit Version could mean that Hot Toys might release a regular version i.e. Jim Gordon in plain clothes.

TED movie 1/6 action figures (almost)

Ted (stylized as ted) is a 2012 American comedy film, directed, produced, and co-written by Seth MacFarlane (the creator of "family guy"), who stars in it with Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The supporting cast includes Giovanni Ribisi, Joel McHale, Jessica Stroup, and Patrick Warburton. Ted is about John Bennett's teddy bear becoming a fully sentient being in 1985 and growing up with him as his best friend "forever".

The film received generally favorable reviews. For its opening day in the United States and Canada, Ted scored one of the best R-rated comedy debuts ever since The Hangover with an estimated $20.2 million. As of September 12, 2012, Ted has earned $394,945,545, of which $216,958,485 were in the United States and Canada and $177,987,060 in foreign countries.

Ted is funny and quite entertaining and I certainly enjoyed the bromance between Mark Walberg's John Bennett and Seth MacFarlane's Ted. Giovanni Ribisi's role as Donny, who idolized Ted as a child, and shows interest in possessing him is a hoot to watch. It's quite funny when you think back about 2012 and discover that men went to watch a movie about a teddy bear and women went to watch a movie about strippers (Magic Mike). What a reversal of roles :)

Incoming: Brother Production Cyber World Enforcement 1/6 NINJA MILA 12-inch figure

This is an upcoming product by Brother Production called Cyber World Enforcement 1/6th scale NINJA MILA 12-inch female action figure and there is certainly a strong resemblance to a particular actress very involved in action films.

Brother Production Cyber World Enforcement NINJA MILA 1/6 action figure is dressed in Black Skin-Tight suit and is armed with both guns and swords, anything that can get the job done dispatching and getting rid of bad guys, zombies, undead and mutated monster creatures in a post-apocalyptic world.

Review: Mattel Batman Power Attack Swamp Raider Killer Croc 6.5-inch/16.5cm action figure

This Swamp Raider Killer Croc is the only other action figure from Mattel's Batman Power Attack line that I got, other than the Power Attack Ice Blast Mr Freeze action figure which I reviewed earlier HERE.

Killer Croc, or Waylon Jones, is a criminal and nemesis of Batman. He was born with a medical condition called "Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis" as well as regressive atavism, which caused him to grow progressively more like a crocodile, hence his name.

In recent years, Killer Croc has been portrayed as being much more reptilian than in past incarnations. In Batman the Animated Series which was first aired on the Fox Network from 1992 to 1995, Killer Croc was more of a human with alligator-like skin and razor-sharp teeth and claws (see my post HERE). He had no tail and walked pretty much upright like a man, albeit a very large man. In this Batman Power Attack depiction, Killer Croc is now very much more reptile than man.

Remembering 9/11, 11 years ago - Never Forget

The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th or 9/11) were a series of four suicide attacks that were committed in the United States on September 11, 2001, coordinated to strike the areas of New York City and Washington, D.C. On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally piloted two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. The hijackers also intentionally crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and intended to pilot the fourth hijacked jet, United Airlines Flight 93, into the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.; however, the plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers attempted to take control of the jet from the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, including the 246 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four planes.

When the twin towers were hit, the city's emergency workers reacted immediately and rushed to the towers to try and rescue those trapped inside the buildings. People were rushing out for their safety but these people (mostly FDNY firefighters) were rushing in. Their first priority was saving lives at the cost of their own. Many were in the towers when they collapsed.

A total of 411 emergency workers died as they tried to rescue people and fight fires. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) lost 340 firefighters, a chaplain and 2 paramedics. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) lost 23 officers. The Port Authority Police Department lost 37 officers. Eight emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics from private emergency medical services units were killed. [source: wiki]

Let's take a moment to reflect and remember those brave souls who died in the line of duty...

Review: Mattel Batman Power Attack Ice Blast Mr Freeze 6.5-inch / 16.5 cm tall action figure

This is the Mattel Batman Power Attack Ice Blast Mr Freeze action figure which is approximately 6.5 inches / 16.5 cm tall . I don't like the 3 3/4 inch figures because I find them rather small. They are good for putting into vehicles but not great when they stand alone. I was attracted to this Mattel Batman Power Attack Ice Blast Mr Freeze figure because its size stood out and caught my attention. Plus I cannot resist a good looking Mr Freeze action figure :)

Mr Freeze, real name Dr Victor Fries (surname pronounced "freeze"), is a scientist who must wear a cryogenic suit in order to survive, and bases his crimes around a "cold" or "ice" theme, complete with a "cold gun" that freezes its targets solid. In the most common variation of his origin story, he is a former cryogenics expert who suffered an industrial accident while attempting to cure his terminally ill wife, Nora.

The Mattel Batman Power Attack Ice Blast Mr Freeze 6.5-inch / 16.5 cm tall action figure comes carded and is a part of a set of four arctic mission figures from the Batman Power Attack line of figures. The other three figures in the set are Blizzard Buster Batman, Thermo Attack Batman and Battle Gauntlet Batman. Comparing 12-inch Boba Fett Action Figures by Marmit, Medicom Toys and Sideshow Collectibles

Just how many 1/6 scale Boba Fett 12-inch Bounty Hunter figures are out there? Hasbro released the first original 12-inch Boba Fett action figure way back in 1979 but that one was plastic molded and upsized from the 3 3/4-inch figure which wouldn't count since it is not fabric clothed with accessories and weapon. Hasbro would release two more 1/6 Boba Fett action figures, the really fugly obese version in 1997 using the bulky Hall-of-Fame 12-inch body and the 2004 Vintage Original Trilogy Collection 12-inch Boba Fett which was an improvement but still fell short of the standard expected for a Star Wars 12-inch figure. No pictures posted sinceI didn't get any one of the three by Hasbro.

So not counting the three by Hasbro (some say "Has-been"), there's also one 12-inch Boba Fett by Marmit (released in 2001), two by Medicom Toys and the most recent 1:6 Boba Fett figure produced and released by Sideshow Collectibles. As far as I can tell, of all the seven Boba Fett 12-inch figures released so far, all except one (which is Medicom Toys' version 2 Boba Fett) is based on the Boba Fett as seen in "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back".

In this toy blog post, I'll be showing comparison pictures of the three 1/6 scale Boba Fett 12-inch figures released by Marmit, Medicom and Sideshow Collectibles in my Star Wars 12-inch figure collection. All are based on Boba Fett as seen in "The Empire Strikes Back". The most distinct difference between the two film versions of Boba Fett are the gauntlets (green in ESB and red in ROTJ - "Return of the Jedi"). There are other differences as well and I have covered these in my earlier post HERE.

Incoming: CALTEK 1/6 Scale Chris Costa “Trainer” 12-inch Military Action Figure

Chris Costa spent 7 years in the private sector at Applied Marine Technologies Inc. and Linxx on assignment with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Risk Management Division (RMD). At AMTI and Linxx, Costa specialized in teaching Police Tactical Operations in CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive) environments and providing Red Team Vulnerability Assessments on critical infrastructures for the US Government.

Prior to this, Mr. Costa spent 12 years with the United States Coast Guard, conducting counter drug operations and special missions in Europe, the Middle East, and South America with such units as; the International Training Division (ITD), Maritime Law Enforcement Academy, Plankowner of Port Security Unit 302 and the Taclet Law Enforcement Team North.

If you google "Chris Costa", you will see a lot of images of Mr Costa in a very unique shooting stance with weapon in hand. His right hand is on the pistol grip but his left hand is grasping the rifle hand guard in a most unique fashion. Mr Chris Costa is a major celebrity in the gun world / fraternity and his shooting skills are among the very best, and he has the ability to teach those skills to a large variety of people. Students in his class range from high-speed elite law enforcement and military units, to the average guy who just wants to hone his shooting skills in order to protect his loved ones.

1/6th Scale Military Figures from Soldier Story, 3R, ACI and DID Seen @ STGCC 2012

These were some of the 1/6th scale military figures on display at the recently concluded 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2). Among the 12-inch military figures on display, this particular diorama caught my eye. I just like the whole composition. And the 1/6 scale vehicle really added a nice touch :)

All the 12-inch military figures are from Soldier Story and they have been releasing some very fine figures for a while now. If Hot Toys is the king of licensed movie-related merchandise / 1:6 scale figures, then Soldier Story is the king of 12-inch modern military figures because the realism they bring to the table is amazing. Preview Very Hot 1/6 Mercenary Suits (Sand & Green) for your 12-inch Gun-for-Hire Figure

A mercenary is a person who takes part in an armed conflict, who is not a national or a party to the conflict, and is "motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party".

As a result of the assumption that a mercenary is essentially motivated by money, the term mercenary usually carries negative connotations. There is a blur in the distinction between a mercenary and a foreign volunteer, when the primary motive of a soldier in a foreign army is uncertain.

This will be an upcoming release by Very Hot - two 1/6th scale Mercenary Suits (Green version & Sand version) for 12-inch figures. As with all of Very Hot's offerings, the 1/6th scale Head and 12-inch figure Body are not included with the set. Very Hot only offers uniform / outfit sets with accessories, gear and weapons - all the stuff a 12-inch guy needs to be equipped for battle.

Other Action Figures Seen @ STGCC 2012 including Iron Man, Batman and Primates

Besides Hot Toys Action Figures and Vehicles seen at the 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2) - see my previous FOUR posts - other manufacturers also wanted in on the 1/6th action figure market and offered visitors and collectors a glimpse at what's coming around the corner from their company / factory. Some pretty interesting figures were offered too. You'll have to scroll down to see them all :)

First thing to note of the picture below: It is NOT a Hot Toys 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark VII armor suit from "The Avengers" movie. It looks like there's going to be a new entrant into the 1/6th action figure market.

This is Play Imaginative's Super Alloy Iron Man mark VII 1/6th scale Collectable Figure from Marvel's "The Avengers" movie. Based on Tony Stark's mark VII Armor suit featured in The Avengers, this Iron Man figure comprises 85% die-cast metal alloy, with more than 50 points of articulation. Expected release date: December 2012 / January 2013. Scroll down to see more...

Preview Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6th scale World Traveller Female Character Set - Lara Croft

This is a soon-to-be-released World Traveler 1/6th scale Female Character Set by Flirty Girl Collectibles, the same company that recently released the 1/6th scale EMERSON Female Character Set (Reviewed HERE).

This set will be a full character set just like Emerson but with a few upgrades in overall quality to the set. Here is what she is slated to come with in the full set: Highly Detailed Female Head sculpt, Sleeveless Leotard / Swimsuit, Dark Brown Faux Leather jacket, Tan Shorts, Faux Leather belt with buckle, Faux Leather double pistol holster, Two Custom Silver pistols, Faux Leather Lug Sole boots (lug sole boot feet for ankle cup attachment), Sock Sleeves, Knife, Knife Sheath Holder, Back Pack with adjustable shoulder straps, Map Accessory. NO 1/6th figure (including hands) is actually included with this set - just the outfit and accessories plus a 1/6th scale female head sculpt.

There's no denying who this image is inspired by. If you say Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft then you pretty much got it right :) Angelina Jolie first played Lara Croft in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)" (or simply "Tomb Raider") and reprised the role again in "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)"

OFFICIAL pictures released! See my post HERE

Hot Toys 1/6th scale The Avengers 12-inch Figures All Assembled & Seen @ STGCC 2012

Hot Toys put up quite a booth at the 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2) and one could say it was certainly one of the main attractions at the show, if not the MAIN attraction because you just cannot miss it :) It certainly was most impressive (see the pictures posted in my earlier toy blog entry HERE).

One of the exhibits at the Hot Toys booth which attracted quite a crowd was the 1/6th scale Avengers display. Here in Singapore for the first time we see Hot Toys 1/6th scale Avengers figures assembled for all to see at STGCC 2012 and what a sight it was! If you cannot wait, just scroll down to the bottom of this post to see all the Hot Toys Avengers figures assembled. Otherwise, take a trip with me as we take a look at each and every figure previewed and then see how they all come together for the diorama Hot Toys has prepared for us.

The last Hot Toys The Avengers 1/6th figure to be previewed was the HULK (see the preview pictures HERE). That's most likely because for the Hulk, Hot Toys have to re-design and re-develop a whole new body in scale with the Hulk's massive size. Scroll down to see more...

Hot Toys Batman Figures & Vehicles Seen @ STGCC 2012: 1/4 Batman, Bane, Catwoman +

continued from previous post...

I showed you Hot Toys 1/6th scale humongous The BAT that was displayed / exhibited at the 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012) Hot Toys Booth - opens from today September 1 till tomorrow September 2, 2012 (10am till 11pm) - in the previous post; now let's see what else Hot Toys put up on display.

Also on display was the 1/4th scale or quarter scale Batman from "The Dark Knight Rises". This thing is HUGE. At 1/4th scale, The Dark Knight stands at an imposing 18.5 inches / 47 cm tall! I'm glad I'm sticking just to 1/6th scale because I certainly have no space for these 1/4th scale figures as they are way too BIG for my liking but hey, if it's your thing, then I say "Go for it!"

Other than the Hot Toys Quarter Scale QS001 The Dark Knight Rises 1/4th scale Batman Collectible Figure on display with its equally impressive figure stand imitating the movie scene with the masks of Bane, Joker and Scarecrow, as well as the movie logo, there are also the usual "suspects" from Hot Toys 1/6th scale Batman series. Scroll down to see more :)

Check out Hot Toys 1/6th scale The Bat from "The Dark Knight Rises" Seen @ STGCC 2012

The film "The Dark Knight Rises" introduces a vehicle that has been compared with the Batplane, dubbed "the Bat". In designing the Bat, Nathan Crowley approached it as if it were an actual military project, emphasising the need for it to "fit into the same family" as the Tumbler and the Batpod. The final version of the Bat takes its design cues from the Harrier Jump Jet, Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey and the Boeing AH-64 Apache. Chris Corbould described the Bat's size and shape as presenting a major challenge for filming given Christopher Nolan's emphasis on practical effects over computer-generated imagery. In order to make the Bat "fly", it was variously supported by wires, suspended from cranes and helicopters, and mounted on a purpose-built vehicle with hydraulic controls to simulate movement.

Hot Toys 1/6th scale The BAT makes its presence felt at the 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012) Hot Toys Booth which opens from today September 1 (10am till 11pm) till tomorrow September 2, 2012. This vehicle is HUGE and collectors and Batman Fans have been clamoring to have a 1/6th scale version of their own. But alas, this might not happen after all.

Overheard from a very reliable source coming from the horse's mouth (Howard Chan, who was at the booth for the set-up) itself, Hot Toys will NOT be producing this 1/6th scale The Bat due to the sheer size and complexity of the project. A 1/12th version might see the light of day but don't expect the 1/6th scale version to happen. That's the biggest news I've heard so far. So scroll down and enjoy the pictures of Hot Toys 1/6th scale The Bat as STGCC 2012 might be the only place you are going to see this 1/6th scale The Bat from "The Dark Knight Rises" up close ;p
