The Predator is a 2018 American science fiction action film directed by Shane Black and written by Black and Fred Dekker. It is the fourth installment in the Predator film series (the sixth counting the two Alien vs. Predator films), following Predator (1987), Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010). It opened this week in Singapore.

Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a figure who features in body of legends, which can be traced back to the period of the Song dynasty. He appears as a main character in the 16th century Chinese classical novel Journey to the West (西游记). Sun Wukong is also found in many later stories and adaptations. In the novel, he is a monkey born from a stone who acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. After rebelling against heaven and being imprisoned under a mountain by the Buddha, he later accompanies the monk Tang Sanzang on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from "the West".

Sun Wukong possesses immense strength; he is able to lift his 13,500 jīn (7,960 kilograms (17,550 lb)) staff with ease. He is also extremely fast, able to travel 108,000 li (21,675 kilometres (13,468 mi)) in one somersault. Sun knows 72 transformations, which allow him to transform into various animals and objects; however, he has trouble transforming into other forms, due to the accompanying incomplete transformation of his tail. Sun Wukong is a skilled fighter, capable of defeating the best warriors of heaven.

Haul for December 2017: Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket and Arkham Knight Batman

Ending the year with a BANG!

This is my latest and probably last haul of 2017 after my Christmas haul which was posted earlier HERE. This time round, I got the Hot Toys MMS411 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 1/6th scale Rocket Collectible Figure (Deluxe Version) and Hot Toys VGM26 Batman: Arkham Knight 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Figure. I almost said, a BAT and a RAT but raccoons do not belong to the rodent family.

IMHO I always find that Hot Toys usually does a better job of sculpts the second time around. It's like they need the first one as a trial / practice before getting it right the second time. That's why I didn't get the Hot Toys Avengers figures until Age of Ultron. By then, Hot Toys was very good at capturing the likenesses of the actors who portray the heroes in the film. I think the 1/6th scale Chris Hemsworth as Thor head sculpt for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is one of the best by far (see the pics and full action figure review posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE). Hot Toys "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Hawkeye Collectible Figure also has a great sculpt of Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye (pics HERE and HERE) compared to the Avengers version. That said, I'm putting my money on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 figures by Hot Toys because I think they'll look much better than the first versions which is why I got Rocket. You don't really need a good sculpt of Rocket (he's a raccoon) but he is part of the group and I've already pre-ordered Star-Lord and Yondu while waiting for Gamora and Drax.

As for Batman, he is the dark knight and one of the reasons why I got into collecting action figures. He's the new addition to the ever growing Batman collection. Check out the various 1/6th scale Batman figures I have posted HERE with comparison pictures as well as group pictures.

IN FLAMES x NEWSOUL Story Of Journey To The West 1/6th scale Monkey King on Throne

Journey to the West is an extended account of the legendary pilgrimage of the Tang dynasty Buddhist monk Xuanzang who traveled to the "Western Regions", that is, Central Asia and India, to obtain Buddhist sacred texts (sūtras) and returned after many trials and much suffering.

The novel has 100 chapters that can be divided into four unequal parts. The first part, which includes chapters 1–7, is a self-contained introduction to the main story. It deals entirely with the earlier exploits of Sun Wukong, a monkey born from a stone nourished by the Five Elements, who learns the art of the Tao, 72 polymorphic transformations, combat, and secrets of immortality, and through guile and force makes a name for himself, Qitian Dasheng (simplified Chinese: 齐天大圣; traditional Chinese: 齊天大聖), or "Great Sage Equal to Heaven". His powers grow to match the forces of all of the Eastern (Taoist) deities, and the prologue culminates in Sun's rebellion against Heaven, during a time when he garnered a post in the celestial bureaucracy. Hubris proves his downfall when the Buddha manages to trap him under a mountain, sealing it with a talisman for five hundred years.
