Hellboy is a fictional superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. The character first appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2 (August 1993), and has since appeared in various eponymous miniseries, one-shots and intercompany crossovers. The character has been adapted into two live-action feature films in 2004 and 2008 that starred Ron Perlman in the title role, and two straight-to-DVD animated films, as well as three video games – Asylum Seeker, The Science of Evil, and recently as a playable character in Injustice 2. A film reboot starring David Harbour is set for release in 2019.
From Mike Mignola's Hellboy comes this 7.5-inch Hellboy created by 1000toys as a 1/12 scale action figure! The sculpt revives the enchanting illustration from Mr. Mignola while a wide range of motion is guaranteed from the experience with joints of 1/12 action figures such as Synthetic Human and Killy. Accessories will include: Gritting teeth face, Weapon holding hand (L), Open hand A/B (L)

Check out TITTOYS 1/6th scale Infernal Clockwork Men - Kroenen 12-inch action figure
Important Note: This product is for collectors only, and it is not intended to glorify nor exploit the horrors and atrocities of war or the Nazis.
In the HELLBOY comics created by Mike Mignola, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen was a relatively unremarkable Nazi SS scientist, whose most distinguishing characteristic was that he always wore a gas mask and protective bodysuit, which Mignola attributes to a disfiguring accident of some kind. Director Guillermo del Toro created a significantly expanded biography for the character, to appear as a villain in the 2004 film adaptation.
In the film biography, Kroenen became head of the Thule Society, a group of German aristocrats obsessed with the occult. He helped them to spearhead Project Ragna Rok, engineering the portal generator that would conjure the Scarlet Beast, Hellboy, in October 1944. A masterful fencer, he also became renowned for his swordsmanship and created his own signature swords.

“On the fringe, blood and bullets are the rule of law, and if you’re a man with conviction, violence is inevitable.” - John Teller
One of FX’s all-time biggest hits, Sons of Anarchy ran for 7 seasons and 92 episodes, with a following that continues to grow, binge-watching new fan after binge-watching new fan. This puts him in conflict with his own stepfather, club president Clay Morrow, who prefers things to be done the Old School way. The violent way.

Pre-order First Hellboy 12-inch Statue by Mondo - Created by Mike Mignola way back in 1991
Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles
In 1991, comic artist and writer Mike Mignola created a black and white illustration at a comic convention of a demon character that bore the name "Hellboy" on his belt. This was the genesis of the filed-homed fighter of the supernatural known and loved today.
The First Hellboy Statue by Mondo brings the original concept to life, showcasing all the strange and fun details of the original drawing. In addition to all the sculpted details, original Hellboy colorist Dave Stewart was enlisted to design the color scheme for the piece. Now is a Hell of a time to bring this piece of comic history home!
The demon itself bears virtually no resemblance to Hellboy, and Mignola had no intention of doing anything serious with the concept, but later decided he liked the name. Mignola became interested in doing a creator-owned comic, as he felt it made more sense to create his own characters for the stories he wanted to tell, rather than trying to shoehorn existing characters into these stories.

In the first part review of this MC Toys outfit set on my toy blog (posted HERE), I was able to show pictures and turnaround views of the padded black down hooded jacket which has some nice decals as well as the Shadow Shell Pants and TNF SLOT Winter Grip boots. Once you put on the full gear including the Black military mountaineering backpack, Rocky Mountain High Gaiters and Sabretooth Clip Crampons, some of the details which I was able to show earlier are now obscured. This figure set looks best with its full complements so this post covers the subject matter in its entirety.
The Alpine Gloves were a pain to put on and that was probably because I did it with a fixed pose gun gripping hand with trigger finger. These loose 1/6 scale gloves are usually much easier to assemble if you were to use bendy finger type of hands but those type of hands are less common these days. They can be found on most of the 12-inch figures released by ArtFigures. Check out my action figure reviews of the Art-Figures: SAVES "Punisher: War Zone" Figure HERE and HERE as well as the Art Figures AF-005 1/6 Avenger AKA Thomas Jane 12-inch Punisher Figure HERE and HERE.

Review 1: MC TOYS 1/6th scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set for 12-inch action figures - CoOL!
Mountaineering or mountain climbing is no small feat. Mountaineering is often called Alpinism, especially in European languages, which implies climbing with difficulty such high mountains as the Alps. A mountaineer with such great skill is called an Alpinist. Besides the right attire to keep one warm against the extremely cold weather, special equipment is also needed to traverse the difficult and unpredictable terrain. Basic gear includes crampons and ice axes.
The subject matter was what attracted me to this set. This is the MC TOYS 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set which I had gotten in November 2014 - see my toy blog post HERE. The 1/6th scale climbing gear and outfit looked to be quite nicely detailed and pretty amazing in miniature scale. The preview pictures made the whole deal very tempting (posted earlier HERE).

Besides the outfit, the 1/6th scale head sculpt that was included with this set was rather odd, to say the least. The sixth scale portrait is that of Karl Ruprecht Kroenen, a fictional character in the Hellboy comic book series, created by Mike Mignola. Director Guillermo del Toro created a significantly expanded biography for the character, to appear as a villain in the 2004 film adaptation. I don't recall seeing Kroenen being outfitted in this getup. This set can be just a generic mountaineering set with a generic head sculpt or as the title suggest, a Dark Climbing Kroenen 12-inch action figure with the head sculpt included with this set. The whole black ensemble also appeals to me as well.

Check out MC TOYS 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set - it's really COOL (pun intended)
MC TOYS ITEM: F-042 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set is a really interesting set. In the Dark Horse Hellboy comics, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen was a relatively unremarkable Nazi SS scientist, whose most distinguishing characteristic was that he always wore a gas mask and protective bodysuit, possibly due to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and fear of bacteria.
Director Guillermo del Toro created a significantly expanded biography for the character, to appear as a villain in the 2004 film adaptation. Kroenen's portrayal in the Hellboy film is radically different from the comics. Kroenen, who originally played the part of a meek character, who Del Toro describes as someone who is likely to say "Aargh! Don't break the machine!" is here portrayed as a murderous soldier who is inhumanly loyal to Rasputin. In the original script for Hellboy, the young Professor Bruttenholm describes Kroenen as "one of the Reich's top scientists, and head of the Thule Occult Society." In the film release, the line was re-dubbed so that the first phrase was replaced by "Hitler's top assassin."

Mezco Toyz 2005 released highly accurate Liz Sherman figure from Mike Mignola Hellboy comic
Elizabeth "Liz" Sherman is a pyrokinetic female human, and part-time Agent of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Her parents died when she accidentally set fire to the neighborhood as a child. After the incident, Sherman became a street thief for 10 years. Frustrated by her life, Elizabeth eventually joined the B.P.R.D.. Though she has left the Bureau numerous times, she always returns because it is the closest thing she has to a home or a family.
This is the Liz Sherman 7-inch action figure from the Mezco Toyz Hellboy series of figures that were released in 2005. IMHO the sculptors managed to capture the essence of Mike Mignola's signature drawing style very well and these ranks as one of my favorites even now :)
Mezco Toyz Hellboy Comic Series One figures included this particular Liz Sherman figure, Lobster Johnson, Mecha Ape with Herman Von Klempt head, and Hellboy (earlier posted HERE). The "Abe" Sapien figure, with packaging designed for Mezco Toyz by Mike Mignola, was released as a Comic Con exclusive in 2007 (see my previous post for pictures of Abe).

Mezco Toyz 2007 Comic Con Exclusive Abe Sapien 7-inch Action Figure by Mike Mignola
This is the 2007 Comic Con (SDCC) exclusive Abe Sapien 7-inch action figure from the Hellboy comic series created by Mike Mignola. The packaging art was also designed by the great Mike Mignola himself which I've stashed somewhere (not throwing that one away ;p). As I have already mentioned earlier, Mignola is one my most favourite comic artists and his unique illustration style has been making waves in the comic industry ever since he first emerged onto the scene.
Abraham "Abe" Sapien is a paranormal investigator. He is often an ally of Hellboy. Abe is a humanoid amphibious creature. He has a pair of gills on his neck, allowing him to breathe underwater, but also has a set of normal human lungs allowing him to stay above and out of water for long periods. However, he does need to regularly “get wet” to keep him from becoming too weak.
Abe possesses webbed hands and feet, and has large, bright eyes that help to see in murky, thick water. He has distinctive black/blue stripes vertically overlapping his forehead in a shape reminiscent of a “V”, and easily ranks as an Olympic-level swimmer, if not actually surpassing that measure, thanks to his highly athletic physique.

Mezco Toyz 2005 released highly accurate Mike Mignola comic book Hellboy action figure
I really like Mike Mignola's ART :)
My recent toy blog post of Jakob Westman's custom hand-made Playmobil Hellboy figures (check out the post HERE) made me go back and revisit the Mezco Toyz Hellboy action figures I had bought some time back. Being quite the fan of Mike Mignola's art and the comics he did (Rocket Raccoon, Phantom Stranger, Gotham by Gaslight, Cosmic Odyssey, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, Ironwolf, Coppola's Dracula, Aliens: Salvation, Batman: Legends - Sanctum, all before Hellboy which first appeared in 1993), I wanted to see Mike's 2-D art get translated / interpreted into 3-D form and these Mezco Toyz Hellboy 7-inch action figures were among the best there was out there. The sculpting of the figures were made to replicate Mignola's signature drawing style.

Custom Hand-made Playmobil Hellboy Figures by Jakob Westman - This is ART and one-of-a-kind
Jakob Westman is an artist / professional from Sweden who made these Playmobil customs of his all-time favourite comic character Hellboy (check out his deviantart profile HERE). He used regular Playmobil Police Officers which he then reworked completely into this cartoony version of Hellboy. And these Hellboy Playmobil customs really will blow your mind. They are simply awesome and very well made. All these pictures belong to Jakob Westman and I just wanted to share his stunning artwork with all fans of Playmobil and Hellboy as well as anyone who can appreciate GREAT ART
How FANTASTIC are they? After Jakob made the first three figures, the entire set was commissioned by the Mignolas and the only ones there are are now with them. That is something to tell your kids and grandkids right?

Preview: Hellboy & Abe Sapien by Hot Toys
May already be old news but Hot Toys releasing Hellboy and Abe Sapien from "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" is GREAT news indeed for us collectors. The only other movie related 12" hellboy merchandise was released by Sideshow some time back to tie-in with the first movie. I have pictures of 12" Sideshow Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Kroenen and a kitbashed Nazi Occultist. I much preferred Mezco Toyz's Hellboy series which was true to Mike Mignola's artwork. Now Sideshow has become a distributor and gets their products from Hot Toys - no more competing for collectors' attention by outdoing each other, just monopolize the market, put in the mark-ups and pass the inflated price to us - sigh!
Thankfully for us in Asia and thru' good contacts and connections, we can bypass Sideshow and get the goodies almost directly, thereby ensuring that our pockets last longer, especially with the global financial crisis - sigh!!

Ron Pearlman (who was the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast" TV series) reprises his role as Hellboy. If you'd seen him in "Aliens: Resurrection", you'll know that he doesn't need much make-up for the role - now here's a mug even a mother couldn't love

Nice details of his belt and holster for his Good Samaritan

Doug Jones who also played El Fauno & The Pale Man in "Pan's Labyrinth (2006)" reprises his role as Abe Sapien. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro who also directed "Pan's Labyrinth" before this. You cannot help but feel that a lot of "Pan's Labyrinth" got carried over into "The Golden Army"

"Stop! Wait a minute, mister Postman..."

Hellboy 12: Johann Kraus - comic version
Johann's body was destroyed during a séance and the B.P.R.D. developed a suit which allowed him to regain control of his form. He became a member of the B.P.R.D. and can temporarily give form to the dead, and allow them to comunicate with the living. He can also sense souls that have left their bodies, allowing him to detect if someone is dead or "playing possum."
