Kaustic Plastik 1/6th scale Fantasy Warrior Outfit Set and Head Sculpt (Masterclass Collection)

Conan the Barbarian is a 1982 sword and sorcery / adventure film directed and co-written by John Milius. It is based on stories by Robert E. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones, and tells the story of a young barbarian (Schwarzenegger) who seeks vengeance for the death of his parents at the hands of Thulsa Doom (Jones), the leader of a snake cult.

Kaustic Plastik's New 1/6th scale Scottish Warrior is 12-inch Connor MacLeod from Highlander

"There can be only one"

Highlander is a 1986 British-American epic adventure action fantasy film directed by Russell Mulcahy and based on a story by Gregory Widen. It stars Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The film narrates the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past- and present-day storylines.

Christopher Lambert plays swordsman Connor MacLeod from Scottish Highlands, known as the Highlander, one of a number of immortal warriors, who can only be killed by decapitation. After initial training by another highly skilled immortal swordsman, the Spaniard Ramirez (Sean Connery), MacLeod lives on for several centuries, eventually settling in New York City, managing an antiques shop. In 1985, he falls in love with a policewoman named Brenda and finds out that he must face his biggest enemy, Clancy Brown's Kurgan, who wishes to kill MacLeod and to obtain "the Prize"—a special ability which is given to the last living immortal warrior, vast knowledge and the ability to enslave the entire human race.

Check out this upcoming release by Kaustic Plastik, a 1/6th scale Scottish Lord of the Scottish Highlanders, circa 1500 A.D. who looks a lot like Christopher Lambert's Connor MacLeod from Highlander. Remember his famous intro: "I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal."?

Kaustic Plastik XXL Project set 3: THE BOUNTY KILLER is 1/6 Jamie Foxx as Django "Freeman"

Django Unchained is a 2012 American western film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Set in the Old West and Antebellum South, it is a highly stylized variation of the spaghetti Western. The film stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The film follows Django (Foxx), an African-American slave, and Dr. King Schultz (Waltz), an English-speaking German bounty hunter posing as a traveling dentist. Schultz buys and then promises to free Django in exchange for his help in collecting a large bounty on three outlaws. Schultz subsequently promises to teach Django bounty hunting, and split the bounties with him, if Django assists him in hunting down other outlaws throughout the winter. He further offers to help Django to locate and free his long-lost wife (Washington) from her cruel plantation owner (DiCaprio).

Kaustic Plastik presents a new custom kit for 12-inch action figures: XXL Project set 3 – THE BOUNTY KILLER. XXL set 3 will be produced in a VERY LIMITED Edition and they have designed this set to fit the KP04-C body.

Review Kaustic Plastik XXL Set 2 – 1/6th Arena Fighter Outfit Set aka Russell Crowe's Gladiator!

continued from previous post...

"Are You Not Entertained?!"

This Kaustic Plastik XXL Set 2 – 1/6th scale The Arena Fighter Outfit Set was part of my second haul for April 2015 (see my toy blog post HERE), as was the Kaustic Plastik KP04 Generation K Muscle Body which I have just reviewed in the previous post HERE. Now let's see how the two look together.

If the resulting image of KP04 and XXL2 combined together look very familiar, it's probably because this set was inspired by the character that Russell Crowe plays in the 2000 British-American epic historical drama film "Gladiator". As loyal Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, Crowe is betrayed when the emperor Marcus Aurelius's ambitious son, Commodus, murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murder of his family and his emperor. Hence this set is called the Arena Fighter outfit set and it is designed to go together with Kaustic Plastik KP04 Generation K Muscle Body which comes with a 1:6 scale head sculpt that bears a striking resemblance to Russell Crowe as he appeared in "Gladiator". For me, that was his best film ever!

This is 12-inch Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius the gladiator who goes on to organize his team of gladiators to fight winning battles in the Arena. To see a 1:6 scale Russell Crowe as Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, check out my earlier toy blog post HERE of the ACI Toys 2012 Anniversary Product - 1/6 scale Warriors III Roman General 12-inch figure (limited to 1500 pieces). Now on with the show / review of the Kaustic Plastik XXL Set 2 – 1/6th scale The Arena Fighter Outfit Set.

Review: Kaustic Plastik KP04 1:6 scale Generation K 12-inch Muscle Body is awesome!

This is a review of the Kaustic Plastik KP04 Generation K Muscle Body which I received as part of my April 2015 haul posted earlier HERE. There will be three versions of the KP04 and this is supposed to be "KP04A - Caucasian (Suggested for XXL set 2)". There's going to be "KP04B - Caucasian" and "KP04C - Afro American".

According to the manufacturer Kaustic Plastik, this body is designed and built with high production technologies. Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Generation K Muscular Body Features: Soft Rubber Torso with internal mechanisms (3D Cad designed internal mechanisms), Two Sets of Arms, 30+ Points of Articulation, Extraordinarily lifelike muscle definition, and 8 posing hands. The head sculpt on this "KP04A - Caucasian" Generation K Muscle Body bears a strong resemblance to actor Russell Crowe, who played the role of loyal Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 American-British epic historical drama film "Gladiator" directed by Ridley Scott. In the film, Maximus Decimus Meridius is betrayed when Commodus, the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor.

I have reviewed other Kaustic Plastik 12-inch figure bodies in the past, most recent being the Kaustic Plastik KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body XXL Limited Edition 12-inch figure body (posted on my toy blog HERE). Before that, there was the Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Athletik Muscle Body KP03B Caucasian version reviewed HERE and HERE as well as the review of Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Athletik Muscle Body KP03C Afro (African) American version posted HERE. Let's see how this latest 12-inch figure released by Kaustic Plastik fares.

April 2015 2nd haul: 1/6 Russell Crowe + Arena Fighter outfit, Tom Cruise & Gingerbread Man

Look what just came in the mail... or rather, what the DHL guy brought me on Saturday :) I received the Kaustic Plastik KP04-A 1/6th scale Generation K 12-inch Muscular Body and the Kaustic Plastik XXL Set 2 – 1/6th scale The Arena Fighter Outfit Set (these two definitely have to go together!). This two items plus the Medicom Toy RAH (Real Action Heroes) 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt Collectible Figure and 6-inch Dissected Gingerbread Man ABS Art Collectible by Jason Freeny and Mighty Jaxx which I got during the week rounds off my second haul of April 2015 - You can see what I got for my first haul of April 2015 in my earlier toy blog post HERE

I realized that when I still get excited about these things, it only shows that my passion for them has not waned, even after more than 20 years. I've been collecting toys (then upgraded to adult collectibles) since 1994 and I have been blogging about toys and action figures, and sharing my passion for them on the internet since July 2007. Sure, prices have been going up and up, and it's getting tougher to have the things you want but every time I do get something, there's still the thrill and satisfaction. Which begs the question: "Why do adults collect toys?" The answers can be found in my blog post of October 2014 titled "Why do adults collect toys? Also a BIG thank you for the more than 15,000,000 (15 million) page views so far" posted HERE

Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Praetoriae Cohortes (Praetorian Guard) Lucius Aelius Seianus figure

Lucius Aelius Seianus, commonly known as Sejanus, was an ambitious soldier, friend and confidant of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. An equestrian by birth, Sejanus rose to power as prefect of the Roman imperial bodyguard, known as the Praetorian Guard, of which he was commander from AD 14 until his death in AD 31.

While the Praetorian Guard was formally established under Emperor Augustus, Sejanus introduced a number of reforms which saw the unit evolve beyond a mere bodyguard, into a powerful and influential branch of the government involved in public security, civil administration and ultimately political intercession; changes which would have a lasting impact on the course of the Principate.

During the 20s, Sejanus gradually accumulated power by consolidating his influence over Tiberius and eliminating potential political opponents, including the emperor's son, Drusus Julius Caesar. When Tiberius withdrew to Capri in 26, Sejanus was left in control of the administration of the empire. For a time the most influential and feared citizen of Rome, Sejanus suddenly fell from power in 31, the year his career culminated with the consulship. Amidst suspicions of conspiracy against Tiberius, Sejanus was arrested and executed, along with his followers.

Kaustic Plastik 1/6th Marcus Nonius Macrinus Dux Exercituum Imperatoris Marci Aurelii figure

Marcus Nonius Macrinus was a Roman general and statesman in the era of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. He served as Consul (suffectus) in 154, and several terms as proconsul thereafter. Macrinus' life was one of the inspirations for Russell Crowe's character Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 feature film Gladiator. However, while both Marcus Nonius Macrinus and the fictitious Maximus Decimus Meridius are placed in the same time period and share similarities such as being liked and well known to Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Marcus Nonius Macrinus went on to enjoy a successful career and died a wealthy man. In the movie, Maximus Decimus Meridius is portrayed with having a much different later life, losing his family and being sold into slavery.

Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Marcus Nonius Macrinus Dux Exercituum Imperatoris Marci Aurelii 12-inch figure Features: Deluxe Packaging, New Head Sculpt, KP04 Generation K Body, Theilenhofen Helm (Die-Cast), Sword / Gladio (Die-Cast), Bronzed Armour / Lorica Muscolata, Pteruges / Leather Vest, Purple Cape (Cloth), Purple Toga, Parade Closed Boots / Calcei (Leather). White Tunic Short (Cloth), White Tunic Long (Cloth), Decorated Belt (Leather + Details in Die-Cast), Parazonium / Parade Sword, Fasces / Bundle of Wooden Rods with Axe, Command Staff, Deluxe Stand

Review Kaustic Plastik XXL Project Set 1: 1/6th The Fantasy Warrior costume set for 12" figures

continued from previous post...

This is the Kaustic Plastik XXL Project Set 1: The Fantasy Warrior 1/6th scale fabric costume and accessories set for 12-inch figures combined with the Kaustic Plastik KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body XXL Limited Edition 12-inch figure body as the set does not come with a body. This is so that you can have the option to use other muscular bodies of other brands but I think this works best with the KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body as the KP02XXL was designed for this set.

Conan the Barbarian is a 1982 sword and sorcery / adventure film directed and co-written by John Milius. It is based on stories by Robert E. Howard, a pulp fiction writer of the 1930s, about the adventures of the eponymous character in a fictional pre-historic world of dark magic and savagery. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones, and tells the story of a young barbarian (Schwarzenegger) who seeks vengeance for the death of his parents at the hands of Thulsa Doom (Jones), the leader of a snake cult.

The Kaustic Plastik XXL Project Set 1: The Fantasy Warrior 1/6th scale fabric costume and accessories set for 12-inch figures is most likely inspired by the Conan character played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Conan the Barbarian". The outfit Arnold wears in the sequel is quite faithfully replicated here in 1/6 scale and I'm very glad for the chance and opportunity to own this figure. Finally I have a Arnold Schwarzenegger Conan figure to put next to the Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator figures and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch figure plus the soon-to-be-released Arnold Schwarzenegger John Matrix from "Commando" figure (posted earlier HERE).

Review: Kaustic Plastik KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body XXL Limited Edition 12-inch figure body

This is the recently released Kaustic Plastik KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body XXL Limited Edition 12-inch figure body which I received via Fedex (see my recent post HERE of my November haul). The Heroik Muscle Body does not come with a 1/6 scale head sculpt (or sword) but in order to show off the body, I wanted to pose the figure with a head and a sword strategically placed so I used the 1/6 scale head sculpt and sword which came with the Kaustic Plastik XXL Project Set 1 (1/6 scale The Fantasy Warrior fabric costume and accessories for 12-inch figures) which also arrived at the same time as the Heroik Muscle Body.

This newer Kaustic Plastik KP02XXL Heroik Muscle Body XXL Limited Edition 12-inch figure body is more muscular looking than the previously released Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Athletik Muscle Body KP03B Caucasian version (reviewed on my toy blog HERE and HERE) and the Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Athletik Muscle Body KP03C Afro (African) American version (also reviewed HERE). The body seems to be designed with one particular body builder / actor in mind, someone who had that kind of physique in his prime. You probably can guess who that is ;p

Review of Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale XXL Project Set 1 - The Fantasy Warrior head and outfit set

I've known Ted Menten for many years now and he has become a great friend from afar all thanks to the internet - it certainly has made the world a much smaller place. We exchange banter regularly, almost on a daily basis. Ted has lots of interesting stories to share and I just enjoy reading about his early days experience with toys and such. He's such a humble guy you wouldn't believe that he worked with Don Levine (father of G.I. Joe) back in the day and he helped develop the 12-inch action figure for boys (you can't sell dolls to boys because only girls play with dolls). Without G.I Joe, there wouldn't be a market for 12-inch figures today, let alone all the collectibles related to 1/6 scale figures.

Ted wrote me to wish me a Happy Belated Birthday (see text below) which is the reason for this post:
Alex,
What do you get for the guy who seems to have it all? LOL
Well, I thought about it and decided to give you a gift of free time -- a few extra moments with your family. Here is my take on the just released Kaustik Plastik Fantasy Warrior set that I got from BBTS (Big Bad Toy Store). So, if you want to take off some time here is your chance.
Happy Birthday
Ted

So this review of the Kaustic Plastik KP01 1/6 scale XXL Project Set 1 - The Fantasy Warrior set is possible all thanks to Ted Menten, a guest reviewer in this instance :)

More pictures showing differences in articulation of 12-inch figures: Alpha/TrueType, X-Series etc

continued from previous post...

I've already shown comparison pictures of the various 12-inch figure body types in the previous post. Here are some more pictures to show how much better the articulation is on the X-Series 12-inch figure body compared to other brands such as Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies, only cheaper AND Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies which represent the more muscular built body types that are also available in the 1/6 scale market.

As you can see, the way the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are designed allow them to adopt some very nice and dramatic poses other 1/6 scale bodies cannot achieve. I like to show off the bodies by making them demonstrate a high flying jumping knee muay thai style because everything has to be compact and tight. Only the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are able to achieve this pose

Comparison of 1/6th scale 12-inch Action Figure Bodies: Hot Toys, X-Series etc - which is best?

Charlie's Angels these guys are NOT ;p I just wanted to do a quick comparison of some of the 12-inch male figure body types that are available in the 1/6 scale market and show which ones are the most articulated and which ones are lacking in articulation.

I'm only showing three types but they more or less represent what is available out there because a lot of the bodies out there are all very similar with the difference being only in the brand name and price. Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies except that they are much cheaper without compromise on quality. There are also the X-series 12-inch Bodies with a three-part upper torso. Last but not least, Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies represent the more muscular built body types that are also available.

Muscular bodies were created for the purpose of posing figures wearing short sleeve T-shirts, tank tops or just to go topless. They work well for gladiators and gladiator type kitbashes because you do not want to see the ugly joints which does not add realism to the figure. Some prime examples are Hot Toys The Expendables 2 1/6 scale Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross 12-inch Figure (reviewed HERE and HERE), Hot Toys "X-Men Origins" 1/6th scale Wolverine Collectible Figure posted HERE and Hot Toys 1984 T-800 Terminator Figure reviewed HERE. Gone are the days when Hot Toys produced bodies with seamless joint-lines i.e. joints hidden under skin which were much more realistic. Check out the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer 12-inch collector's edition figure HERE and Hot Toys 1/6 scale Collector's Edition Private Billy Sole 12-inch Action Figure posted HERE, both from the 1987 "Predator" film. The ULTIMATE 12-inch figure without visible joints has to be Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS114 1/6 scale "300" King Leonidas 12-inch collectible figure - check out my review HERE

Now let's get back to the 12-inch figures that are currently available for us to choose from.

Size comparison pics of some 12-inch action figures with Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier

continued from previous post...

Having reviewed the Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier HERE and HERE, how about some comparison pictures of Coo Model 1/6 scale Simulated Human Skeleton Soldier 12-inch figure with other 12-inch figures? Let's see how they stack up against each other? Size is always a bit of a concern in 1/6 scale. You want to know if the manufacturer got the scale and size right especially if you want to display all the figures together. A good example would be Darth Vader. He cannot be the same size / height as the Stormtroopers. That would be wrong. That's why Medicom Toys supposedly 1/6 scale Darth Vader was a big disappointment :( check out the comparison pics HERE

So how tall is the Coo Model 1/6 scale Simulated Human Skeleton Soldier figure and how does it look when placed together with other 12-inch action figures? Scroll down to find out the answer plus see size comparison pictures with ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure, Kaustic Plastik's 12-inch figures, HPC Toys Film series 12-inch figure and Hot Toys True Type TTM21 12-inch figure body.

Lucius Artorius Castus (mid-late 2nd century AD or early-to-mid 3rd century AD) was a Roman military commander. A member of the gens Artoria (possibly of Messapic or Etruscan origin), he has been suggested as a potential historical basis for King Arthur. What is known of Artorius comes from inscriptions on fragments of a sarcophagus, and a memorial plaque, found in Podstrana, on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. Although the inscriptions cannot be precisely dated, Lucius Artorius Castus probably served in the Roman army sometime between the mid-late 2nd century AD or early-to-mid 3rd century AD.
