Honey, we shrank the monuments - Lego artists build replicas of Singapore landmarks
Brick artists Xyivie Wong, 34, Eugene Tan, 41, and Andy Goh, 35 were commissioned by the National Heritage Board (NHB) to build eight Lego replicas of Singapore landmarks for the Building History: Monuments In Bricks And Blocks roadshow. The models include the National Museum, old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, St Andrew's Cathedral, Thian Hock Keng Temple, and the former Nanyang University Library and Administration Building.
The public can view the models of the national monuments at the Central Public Library in Victoria Street from June 7 to 30, 10am to 9pm daily.
Pic above shows Mr Eugene Tan places an old Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) train model onto the tracks of the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station replica. The building is scaled to the size of the train model. The platform pillars are represented by small rods that are more commonly used to hold pieces together. ST PHOTOS: GAVIN FOO

Medicom Toys "Back to The Future II" Future Car is Police Spinner in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner
continued from previous toy blog post...
In Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner, the year was 2019 and the future is set in a dystopian Los Angeles. Besides the story and Harrison Ford, it was also memorable for the flying cars or 'Spinners'. Spinner is a nickname for the type of Police flying car in Blade Runner that can drive as a ground car, take off vertically, hover and cruise using jet propulsion much like Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft today.
The film Back to the Future Part II paid homage to the Spinner from Blade Runner in that a repainted spinner can be seen parked in a driveway. A spinner car also rests on the Hill Valley Street during the hoverboard chase.
Medicom Toys released this Back to the Future Part II future car as a vehicle for their Kubrick line of mini figures and called it a Miracle Action Vehicle. The Spinner is missing the blinking police lights, blue police colours and markings but has turning wheels which retract for flight-mode and winged doors that opened upwards. The glass bubble cockpit allows the occupants to look up, forward & rear as well as downwards when it is in flight.

Jihadi John Deported - ISIS Counterfeit Lego sets sold in Singapore taken off the shelves
Counterfeit Lego sets sold in Singapore depicting ISIS terrorists have been taken off the shelves.
The toys, which were sold at a local retail store and on e-commerce sites, were removed after concerns were raised that they could lead to the glorification of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria terror group. A reader had alerted The Straits Times to the made-in-China figurines being sold at a shop in People's Park Centre, as well as online.
These toy sets, recommended for children aged between six and 12 years, depict violent scenes that show figurines carrying the ISIS flag, launching sticks of dynamite and firing AK-47s. One also includes a plastic figurine of a decapitated head.
These toys, described as "Falcon commando" sets, were priced between $3.80 and $25. They were sold on local online marketplace Carousell and at 8 Series, a retail store selling household goods, toys and other lifestyle items in People's Park Centre.
Another online retailer, Brick Generals, also sold toy figurines described as "militants" and "bombers". One of them was labelled as "ISIS Jihadi John", while a description for a bomber figurine read: "Extremist who enjoys blowing things up for fun. One day, he'll blow himself up."

Medicom Kubrick 2001 Planet of the Apes Set C with Mark Wahlberg as Leo + space pod Review
Planet of the Apes is an American science fiction media franchise consisting of films, books, television series, comics, and other media about a world in which humans and intelligent apes clash for control. The series began with French author Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel La Planète des Singes, translated into English as Planet of the Apes or Monkey Planet. The 1968 film adaptation, Planet of the Apes, was a critical and commercial hit, initiating a series of sequels. Four sequels followed the original film between 1970 and 1973: Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. They did not approach the critical acclaim of the original, but were commercially successful.
Planet of the Apes is a 2001 American science fiction film directed by Tim Burton and starring Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, and Estella Warren. The sixth film produced in the Planet of the Apes franchise, it was loosely adapted from Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel of the same name and the 1968 film version. It tells the story of astronaut Leo Davidson crash-landing on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes. The apes treat humans as slaves, but with the help of an ape named Ari, Leo starts a rebellion.
Medicom Toys released 12 Planet of the Apes box sets under their Kubrick series of mini figures which covered all the first six Planet of the Apes films. A new reboot film series commenced in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was followed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014; another sequel, titled War for the Planet of the Apes, opens in cinema theatres this week.
Medicom Kubrick Planet of the Apes Set A to H covered the first five films while the newer film released in 2001 had 4 box sets. Medicom Kubrick 2001 Planet of the Apes Set C which is being featured here is one of the four sets mentioned. Set C features a mini figure of Mark Wahlberg as astronaut Captain Leo Davidson, Estella Warren as slave girl Daena and Davidson's simian co-worker, chimpanzee named Pericles. The space pod which sent both Pericles and Leo to the Planet of the Apes is also included.

February 2015 Haul: Hot Toys RoboCop, E&S Deathridge, R2-D2 & Lego Lone Ranger + Tonto
This is my haul so far for February 2015 :)
From the left: E&S USA exclusive Z.E.R.T. (Zombie Eradication Response Team) 1:6th scale Jameson YoungBlood Deathridge 12-inch Action Figure (big thanks to Sam if you are reading this for helping me get this exclusive figure), Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Diecast Series MMS202D04 1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Figure, Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars R2-D2 Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure (Sideshow Exclusive version), and Lego The Lone Ranger and Tonto mini figures (not shown in the main picture). I'm glad for my haul but among these figures I got, the best piece would have to be Hot Toys RoboCop because I didn't pre-order him but got him at a very good price instead. I'll explain why later.

The Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Diecast Series MMS202D04 1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Figure is actually the fourth RoboCop figure to be released by Hot Toys, although it is the first die-cast version. The three earlier versions of RocoCop were MMS010, MMS026 and MMS032, all released very much earlier in Hot Toys line-up of figures (and posted in my toy blog too. Just click on the "RoboCop" label to view the posts).

Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015 with Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters
Well, it looks like 2014 is coming to an end...
It has been a GREAT year; every year is a good year when you can still play with toys LOL So to help send off the old and bring on the new, I have these cute Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters to say goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015. For someone who has been collecting toys since 1994, it's always been FUN! If it's no longer fun, then I'll probably stop doing it. These Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters are pretty cool. I believe there have been only six microfighters released so far and these two were the only ones I got excited about. The only other one I might get is the TIE Interceptor microfighter with TIE Fighter pilot.

When it comes to the Millennium Falcon, I have quite a few but none beats the awesomeness that is the Hasbro Toys Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon. You can check out the review on my toy blog HERE and also the other Star Wars vehicles HERE. Now with the Millennium Falcon being featured in the new Star Wars film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (also known as "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens"), the Millennium Falcon is going to get a lot more attention than ever before. Can't wait to see the movie out next year :)

Lego Star Wars Boba Fett LED Key Light Figure
The previous post showed Boba Fett in all-white armor (prototype). This is Boba Fett is full color :)
I have previously posted on some of these Lego LED Key Light Star Wars figures (namely Darth Vader, Stormtrooper and Darth Maul) in my toy blog post HERE and now there's a new addition to the collection :) This is the latest Lego Star Wars Boba Fett LED Key Light Figure and I really took a liking to it because of the great paint job / application. All the previous figures were just straight on paint application but Boba Fett is the first figure to have the "weathering" effect, one of the major differences between Star Wars and Star Trek.
Star Wars creator George Lucas opted to abandon the traditional sleekness of science fiction by creating a "used universe" in which all devices, ships, and buildings looked aged and dirty. One of the most revolutionary things about Star Wars when it came out was, that the things in the movies did look like they were used. Everything was dirty, sooty and worn-out. Before Star Wars it was more common for science-fiction movies to look clean and futuristic. This look, that George Lucas called a “used universe”, heavily supports the believability of the Star Wars universe.
And unlike Darth Vader, Darth Maul and the Stormtroopers, Lego Star Wars Boba Fett LED Key Light Figure has that "used universe" look to him. I also took a liking to these Lego Key Light figures because they are much bigger in size compared to the regular mini figures which seem rather small in scale. Scroll down to see more pictures :)

Medicom Kubrick Cosmonauts boxed set - Vostok 1 (Russian: Восток-1, East 1 or Orient 1)
This is a repost since today is April 12.
Spacecraft History: Vostok 1(Russian: Восток-1, East 1 or Orient 1) was the first spaceflight in the Vostok program and the first human spaceflight in history. The Vostok 3KA spacecraft was launched on April 12, 1961. The flight took Yuri Gagarin, a cosmonaut from the Soviet Union, into space. The flight marked the first time that a human entered outer space, as well as the first orbital flight of a manned vehicle. Vostok 1 was launched by the Soviet space program, and was designed by Soviet engineers guided by Sergei Korolev under the supervision of Kerim Kerimov and others.
Originally posted on April 18, 2011:
On 12 April 1961, aboard the Vostok 3KA-3 (Vostok 1), Gagarin became both the first human to travel into space, and the first to orbit the earth. On April 12, 2011 the world marked 50 years of Yuri Gagarin’s historic spaceflight that ushered in the era of space exploration. From this year on, April 12 will be celebrated worldwide as International Day of Human Spaceflight.
This Kubrick Cosmonauts boxed set was released in 2003 and featured mini versions of Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, first dog in space Laika, and a surprisingly detailed Vostok spacecraft. Made by Japan's Medicom Toy, Kubrick was a cross between LEGO and Playmobil but modeled to represent celebrities and other pop-culture favorites.

Medicom Toys Kubrick Series Batman Figures
Wanted to just share some of the Medicom Toys Kubrick Series Batman Figures I collected some years back :)
Kubrick (キューブリック Kyūburikku) is a line of collectible block-style figures and associated products created by Japanese toy company MediCom Toy Inc. Kubrick figures are produced in three scales, designated as 100% (six centimeters high), 400% (24 centimeters high), and 1000% (60 centimeters high). The basic Kubrick figure design has a body that resembles an extremely simplified human form, somewhat similar in appearance to Playmobil or Lego figures. Produced in limited numbers and not re-released, Kubricks are highly sought-after by collectors. Kubricks are predominantly collected by adults; the packaging recommends the figures to collectors 13 years or older. (source: wiki)
"Kubrick" was chosen in honor of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. In further homage to the filmmaker, the Kubrick logo is designed in the style of the logo created for his movie A Clockwork Orange. By linguistic coincidence, the name Kubrick may also be seen as a hybrid word of the Japanese word kyu, meaning the number nine, and the English word brick. Nine is the number of tools (a toy industry term for parts of a figure) used in a standard Kubrick figure: head, torso, hips, two arms, two hands, and two legs; the English word brick is collector’s jargon for LEGO elements, and refers to the similarity of Kubricks to Lego Minifigures.
The picture above is that of Tim Burton's 1989 Michael Keaton Batman figure with removable mask. Comes with a batarang.

S is also for Star Wars and these are NOT your regular sized Star Wars Lego mini figures
From a post-apocalyptic future (see previous post) to a galaxy far far away...
Lego has ventured into making other products besides their little bricks. I've bought some Lego Star Wars boxed sets in the past but have since decided to focus on my 1/6 scale collection as I much prefer the articulation and ultra-detailed accessories, gear, uniforms and weapons. That said, I still have a thing for Star Wars and besides the 12-inch Star Wars figures, I do collect some of the Star Wars mini figures as well. Here's a picture I took recently of my Star Wars Lego figures standing alongside the Medicom Toys Kubrick Star Wars figures as well.
The Medicom Toys Kubrick Star Wars mini figures in the picture above are the two Imperial Stormtroopers on the right standing on either side of the Medicom Toys Kubrick Star Wars Darth Vader figure. I had posted pictures of the Kubrick Stormtroopers by Medicom Toys HERE as well as pictures of the Kubrick Darth Vader HERE and HERE
Besides the Lego mini figures (standing right in front), there are the Lego LED Key Light Star Wars figures and the much bigger Lego Star Wars Darth Vader Alarm Clock :) Scroll down to see more pictures

Random Pic: Star Wars 1/6 scale Bounty Hunters
These are the 1/6 scale Bounty Hunters from a galaxy far far away...
The Star Wars universe is filled with these mercenaries for hire who tracked down and captured or killed anyone with a price on their head, although they were also known for doing nearly anything for the right price including the protection of clients. In all the Star Wars films, there has always been an intergalactic bounty hunter, starting with Greedo in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)".
These are some of the Star Wars 12-inch Bounty Hunters I've collected over the years :) Hasbro is the only company that has released almost all of the Star Wars intergalactic bounty hunters in 1/6 scale.
In "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)", Darth Vader enlists the bounty hunters Boba Fett, Dengar, IG-88, Bossk, 4-LOM and Zuckuss to find the Millennium Falcon for a "substantial reward" aboard the Star Destroyer Executor. Scroll down to see the recreated scene in 1/6 scale :)

P is also for Power Loader
The original 1979 "Alien" film introduced one of the most memorable modern 'monsters', and was a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto. The 1986 sequel, "Aliens", introduced a team of worthy adversaries, the Colonial Marines, who joined Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and brought the fight to the xenomorphs. In the end, Ripley finds herself the sole defender against the alien menace, and their immense Queen. To combat the Queen Alien, Ripley stepped into a Power Loader, a mobile man-shaped forklift. This machine provided Ripley with the extra armor and strength necessary to force the Queen into the ship's airlock, and it was sucked out into space.
This is the 1992 Kenner "Aliens" Ripley action figure operating the Kenner Power Loader, also released in 1992. At that time, there were no other "Aliens" figures available and after watching the cocky over-confident Colonial Marines get kicked in the posterior by the xenomorphs / aliens in the first battle before they started hitting back with Ripley taking charge, the Power Loader was a "must-have" for me :)

Look What The Postman Brought
I received a very nice package last week from Adrian, he of Little Plastic Man fame :) If you recall, Adrian recently made a a STGCC 2011 Paper Toy which was a 3-D interpretation of the new STGCC 2011 logo I'd re-designed (see my post HERE) and he was kind enough to send the paper toy to me - THANKS once again, Adrian; Daisy's really pleased with it.
I thought it'll be nice to do a little reenactment of the little guy's journey from Little Plastic Man to Toy Haven. Any resemblance is purely coincidental and "Cube-e" is only too happy to help out.

Gatchaman - Battle of the Planets - G Force
This is a re-posting of an earlier post :) Some things just need a second look
What started as Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman in Japan became Battle of the Planets in the US with the team named as G-Force. Up till now, only three of the five main characters have been produced as 12" figures so the announcement that Imagi Animation Studios (Imagi) together with Hot Toys are producing collectors' action figures based on the studio's next two CG-animated feature films, Gatchaman and AstroBoy is GREAT news indeed!!

Struck by Lightning!
Six full-time national servicemen (NSF) were hurt when a bolt of lightning hit the hill they were training on in Marsiling last week. The men were participating in a training excercise under a shelter during the time. The NSFs, who were undergoing training to become officers, took shelter under a tree from rain at the time when the exercise was temporarily suspended, according to a Straits Times report.
This incident comes as no surprise as Singapore has one of the highest rates of lightning activity in the world. The hot and humid weather is ideal for the formation of lightning-producing storm clouds.
And now for a different kind of lightning... presented to you by Medicom Kubrick Star Wars figures

Medicom Kubrick TRON set C & D revisited
continued from my earlier post "Medicom Kubrick TRON set A & B revisited"
Recognize this? (ha ha, I couldn't resist the pun)
A Recognizer (also known as a Reco by both programs and Users) is a hovering vehicle originally created by Kevin Flynn in 1981 for his video game Space Paranoids. However, when Ed Dillinger stole Flynn's games, the vehicles became part of the game grid and were used by the MCP's (Master Control Program) army to capture conscripts and programs.
It is extremely big and made an unique ominous sound when hovering, similar to a helicopter. It captured programs by rotating its "legs" to make a single limb and literally "stomp" on the program, however this doesn't harm the program but just simply captures it. [source: tron wiki]
Medicom Kubrick TRON Recognizer came with positionable "legs"
Guards are the security programs loyal to Sark and the MCP in the computer world. They use long wand-like staffs as weapons to stun programs and also to block attacks. It seems they don't use their identity disks as weapons.
Besides the Recognizer and Guard, Medicom Kubrick TRON set C also came with a yellow Lightcycle. As mentioned in the earlier post, a Lightcycle is a motorcycle driven by programs in the computer world.
The gladiator games on the Game Grid involved the Lightcycles leaving an impenetrable jetwall behind them. The gamers must avoid the jetwalls at all costs or they will derezz by crashing into them. If a lightcycle is eliminated from the game, what jetwall that lightcycle leaves behind will fall.
The lightcycles in the Game Grid have their brakes disabled and cannot be stopped. When on the Game Grid, lightcycles turn at 90-degree angles making it very hard to control. Outside of the Game Grid, the jetwalls are disabled and they are able to turn normally like a regular motorcycle.
Medicom Kubrick TRON set D has a blue lightcycle included.

Sark was the commander of the MCP's army and overseer of the games fought on the Game Grid. He was a merciless and evil program, willing to do anything that pleased the MCP. Sark was in charge of forcing the programs that believed in the users to play gladiator games with personnel from Sark's Army as the opponents. [source: tron wiki]
Medicom Kubrick Sark from TRON set D also comes with his Identity Disk.
The Master Control Program (or MCP), played by David Warner, is the main villain in TRON. It was a rogue computer program created by Ed Dillinger (also played by Warner) that ruled over the world inside ENCOM's mainframe computer. During the rule of the MCP, many programs were enslaved and pitted against the program's henchmen, led by Sark (also played by Warner).
The combined efforts of Flynn and Tron resulted in the deresolution of the MCP by throwing a disk into the base of the MCP. The MCP then reverted back to its original chess program appearance (which, in the digital universe, appeared as an old man in a control chair) followed by this program vanishing as it was deleted.

Medicom Kubrick TRON set A & B revisited
With "Iron Man 2" opening in cinemas this week i.e. April 30, 2010, let's not forget another movie coming to theaters in December - "Tron: Legacy". It is a sequel to the 1982 Academy Award-nominated film "Tron".
For those of you who don't remember or wasn't born yet, "Tron" was one of the first movies to make extensive use of any form of computer animation, and is celebrated as a milestone in the computer animation industry. Three designers were brought in to create the look of the computer world. Renowned French comic book artist Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) was the main set and costume designer for the movie. Most of the vehicle designs (including Sark's aircraft carrier, the light cycles, the tank and the solar sailer) were created by industrial designer Syd Mead, of Blade Runner fame. Peter Lloyd, a high-tech commercial artist, designed the environments. [source: wiki]
I don't think there were that many Tron toys released but Medicom Kubrick did release a four-boxed set of TRON figures and vehicles in 2002 (?) and it has to be one of the coolest sets of all.
Set A consists of two figures, Tron and Yori, and an orange Light Cycle.
Tron, played by Bruce Boxleitner, is the titular character of the film. He is a security program created by Alan Bradley (also played by Boxleitner). In the movie, he stops the MCP (Master Control Program) and Sark (an evil computer program) with the help of the digitized user named Flynn.
Cindy Morgan is Dr Lora Baines (Alan Bradley's girlfriend) and also Yori (Tron's computer program gal)
Medicom Kubrick Tron comes with his Identity disk which is a Frisbee-like device with multiple functions. Programs use identity disks to record anything they learn or do; they use them to hold special code or instructions from their Users; and they use them in combat as either a boomerang type weapon or as a small shield.
Tron also the rod which becomes a light-cycle in the cycle arena. The Lightcycle is rezzed (Rez - short term for Resolution) in by the driver through the rod. Once the driver holds the rod out in front of him or her, the Lightcycle immediately Rezzes and forms around the driver while he or she automatically moves into a driving position. [source: tron wiki]
Tron Light Cycle (orange). A Lightcycle is a motorcycle driven by programs in the computer world. During the reign of the Master Control Program (MCP), lightcycles were used in gladiator-style matches on a Game Grid.
The Medicom Tron Lightcycles open up so you can fit the Kubrick figure inside, which is visible through the toy's clear, tinted windshield. The toy is weighted and features a seamless, "invisible" front wheel, and it's assembled so there are no screws or holes to break up the illusion of a computer-generated design.
The TRON light cycle comes with a molded piece of plastic that fits into the rear wheel well and makes it look like the Lightcycle is leaving a light trail that bends off into a right angle turn.

Here you see two light cycles racing against each other. The red light cycle comes with the Medicom Kubrick TRON Set B

Medicom Kubrick TRON Set B has Flynn, a red Lightcycle with the pursuing, gunmetal-colored tank from the movie.
The Tank is one of many vehicles in the computer world. The tank is mainly used by military-security programs and hacker programs. Its main weapon (if not its only weapon) is a large cannon mounted on top of the tank that can rotate 360°. Each tank holds one operator who acts as driver, gun operator, and radioman.
Tanks are not very fast, as lightcycles can normally outrun them. However, lightcycles - and even the giant recognizers - cannot withstand the powerful energy projectile that tanks fire at enemies.
The tank is less elaborate but maintains its sleek look and form. They were one of the coolest things in the movie. The only moving feature necessary to accurately reproduce the movie vehicle is the swiveling, turntable-arm "turret" and that works. The gunmetal look of the main body and the mint-green side "tracks" are also spot-on. The proportions of the Kubrick TRON vehicles look very close to the original movie designs i.e. they don't look super-deformed or distorted in any way.
I also find the tank design similar to the Merkava (Hebrew: מרכבה, Chariot), which is the main battle tank of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) because of its sleek and rather low profile design.
