Asmus Toys The Hateful 8 Series 1/6th scale Major Marquis Warren 12-inch collectible figure

The Hateful Eight is a 2015 American revisionist Western mystery film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern as eight strangers who seek refuge from a blizzard in a stagecoach stopover some time after the American Civil War.

While racing toward the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John "The Hangman" Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Greeted there by four strangers, the eight travelers soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.

Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren a.k.a. "The Bounty Hunter". A Civil War veteran turned a bounty hunter, Major Marquis Warren is lawless, and even more ruthless than John "The Hangman" Ruth. REDMAN TOYS 1/6th scale Cowboys G, B and D are The Good, the Bad and the Ugly figures

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a 1966 Italian epic Spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach in the title roles respectively. The film is known for Leone's use of long shots and close-up cinematography, as well as his distinctive utilization of violence, tension, and stylistic gunfights. The plot revolves around three gunslingers competing to find fortune in a buried cache of Confederate gold amidst the violent chaos of the American Civil War (specifically the New Mexico Campaign in 1862), while participating in many battles and duels along the way.

In the Southwest during the Civil War, a mysterious stranger, Joe (Clint Eastwood), and a Mexican outlaw, Tuco (Eli Wallach), form an uneasy partnership -- Joe turns in the bandit for the reward money, then rescues him just as he is being hanged. When Joe's shot at the noose goes awry during one escapade, a furious Tuco tries to have him murdered. The men re-team abruptly, however, to beat out a sadistic criminal and the Union army and find $20,000 that a soldier has buried in the desert.

Clint Eastwood is "Blondie" (a.k.a. the Man with No Name): The Good, a subdued, cocksure bounty hunter who teams with Tuco, and Angel Eyes temporarily, to find the buried gold. Blondie and Tuco have an ambivalent partnership. Tuco knows the name of the cemetery where the gold is hidden, but Blondie knows the name of the grave where it is buried, forcing them to work together to find the treasure. In spite of this greedy quest, Blondie's pity for the dying soldiers in the chaotic carnage of the War is evident. "I've never seen so many men wasted so badly," he remarks. He also comforts a dying soldier by laying his coat over him and letting him smoke his cigar.

Clinton "Clint" Eastwood, Jr. (born May 31, 1930) is an American actor, film director, producer, musician, and politician. He rose to international fame with his role as the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s, and as antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. These roles, among others, have made him an enduring cultural icon of masculinity.

This is REDMAN TOYS upcoming 1/6th scale Collectible Figure RM006 The Good COWBOY which is inspired most likely by Clint Eastwood's cowboy films. The figure will come with Head Sculpt with Panama Hat, Cigar, Black Scarf, Gray Special Style Coat, Blue Patterned Shirt, Brown Pants, Brown Leather Belt, Brown Embroidered Belt with Bullets and Holster, Cowboy Boots with Spurs, 1849 Navy Colt Revolver Rattler Grips, American Buffalo Tribute Henry Rifle, 12-inch Figure Body with Hand.

I've always wanted a 12-inch Clint Eastwood as Western cowboy figure. After all, he rose to international fame with his role as the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s before becoming just as famous as antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. These roles, among others, have made him an enduring cultural icon of masculinity. I already have a 1:6 scale Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan 12-inch figure released by Brother Production called Hard-boiled Harry posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE. It would be nice to act Wild West Clint to the collection.

Hot Toys MMS217 The Lone Ranger: 1/6 scale Johnny Depp as Tonto Collectible Figure Review2

continued from previous post...

You can order this from Sideshow Collectibles

Having already done a first part review earlier, I wanted to go into the nice details that come with this movie-accurate Hot Toys MMS217 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure. Tonto features: Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Johnny Depp as Tonto head sculpt with real-like facial expression, detailed wrinkles, face paint and gesture as seen in The Lone Ranger. Includes real fabric hair implantation in black long straight hair with tribal accessories plus detailed crow and bandana sculpture on head.

Johnny Depp's Tonto character wears black-and-white face paint and a deceased crow on his head. According to Depp, the inspiration for the costume was a painting entitled I Am Crow by Kirby Sattler. I wasn't used to the look of this Tonto as he was definitely different from all the other Tontos I've come to know. I guess Depp was trying to take the character to another level just like what he did with the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (see my post HERE where I covered the various 1/6 scale Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow head sculpts that have been released by Hot Toys)

Johnny Depp's Tonto costume is made up of: One black and bronze-colored tribal necklace, One leather-like black belt, One multi-colored belt, One orange-colored belt, One pair of brown pants with pouch and tribal decorations, One pair of brown moccasins. He also has on him One brown and white tribal armband, One white and bronze-colored bracelet, One bronze-colored bracelet. Weapons: One dagger with sheath, Two axes, One revolver. Unfortunately, he doesn't come with a trigger hand for holding the revolver even though he comes with seven interchangeable hands.

Review 1: Hot Toys MMS217 The Lone Ranger: 1/6th Johnny Depp as Tonto Collectible Figure

This was part of my June haul :) see my post HERE

You can order this from Sideshow Collectibles

The Lone Ranger is a 2013 American action western film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and directed by Gore Verbinski. Based on the radio series of the same name, the film stars Johnny Depp as Tonto, the narrator of the events, and Armie Hammer as John Reid (The Lone Ranger). It relates Tonto's memories of the duo's earliest efforts to subdue the immoral actions of the corrupt and bring justice in the American Old West. It is the first theatrical film featuring the Lone Ranger and Tonto characters in more than 32 years.

It was a box office bomb! Critics praised the acting performances, western style, but criticized the long length and lack of originality. Charlie McCollum of the San Jose Mercury News wrote, "In the end, The Lone Ranger is one hot mess — an entertaining one, to be sure, but still a mess."

That aside, we have Johnny Depp as Tonto. He seems to pop up as part of Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series collectible figure rather often. Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark / Iron Man have also been produced a lot of times by Hot Toys but that's always as Tony Stark / Iron Man (one of Hot Toys' cash cow). Johnny Depp has appeared as different characters each time - as Captain Jack Sparrow (three times), as Edward Scissorhands, as Sweeney Todd, and now as Tonto. Medicom Toys has also released 1/6 scale versions of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Ichabod Crane, Sweeney Todd and Mad Hatter.

Incoming: Hot Toys MMS217 The Lone Ranger: 1/6 Johnny Depp as Tonto Collectible Figure

Eccentric roles are Johnny Depp’s specialty. In Disney’s The Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp has given an interesting performance as the peculiar Native American Tonto. Despite their initial differences, Tonto has partnered up with his “Kemo Sabe”, the Lone Ranger, and rode together in an adventure to bring justice in the Old West.

The movie-accurate Tonto Collectible Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Johnny Depp as Tonto in the movie which features a detailed head sculpt with face paint, real fabric hair, weapons and a number of finely-made tribal accessories.

Hot Toys MMS217 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure special features: Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Johnny Depp as Tonto in The Lone Ranger. Review II: BBK 003 - 1/6 scale Cowboy 12-inch Collectible Figure OR Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex

continued from previous post... Part 2 of my 2-part review of BBK 003 - 1/6 scale Cowboy 12-inch Collectible Figure OR Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex. And as I mentioned in the previous post, BBK got it all wrong when they called this figure a COWBOY (an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks). This 12-inch figure is more of a post-American Civil War Confederate cavalryman and perhaps movie-accurate as Jonah Hex from the 2010 movie of the same name.

In most of his stories in DC comics, Jonah Hex displays no supernatural or superhuman powers. However, he does possess some exceptional abilities, acquired through a combination of talent and training.

Despite being blind in his right eye, Hex is an outstanding marksman who rarely misses his target. He is extremely fast on the draw and can be seen in many stories gunning down multiple foes before any of them can get off a shot. He can wield two guns, one in each hand, with equal efficiency. He is also a resourceful combatant, often relying on stealth, tricks, and improvised weapons and traps to defeat enemies.

Review 1: BBK 1/6 scale Cowboy OR Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex 12-inch Wild West figure

Jonah Woodson Hex is a Western comic book antihero created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga and published by DC Comics. Jonah Hex is a surly and cynical bounty hunter whose face is horribly scarred on the right side. Despite his poor reputation and personality, Hex is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent. The character is portrayed by Josh Brolin in the 2010 film adaptation of the same name.

This is the BBK 003 Cowboy 12-inch figure. The cowboy was the quintessential symbol of the American Old West, or the Wild West, most often referring to the latter half of the 19th century, between the California Gold Rush of 1849 and the end of the century (1830 - 1920). This BBK boxed figure set should rightfully be titled "Jonah Hex" or "post-Civil War Confederate cavalryman" since the character is clearly based on Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex and what he is wearing belongs to the military uniform of the Confederate States of America (1861 - 1865) which were fighting the Union forces during the American Civil War.

Already there's a boo-boo on the box cover! It says that this is "A Clown" 1/6 scale collectible figure (obvious reference to BBK's other 12-inch figure being released at the same time which is more of a JOKER than a CLOWN) when clearly the picture on it is that of a American Wild West figure. So does this mean that BBK stands for "Boo-Boo" King? I hope not. Read on or scroll down to see more pictures of this BBK product (code no. BBK003 - Cowboy).

Comparing Hot Toys TrueType TTM18 & TTM19 12-inch Figure Bodies + HeadPlay Heath Ledger

I've already reviewed Hot Toys TTM19 TrueType Male Muscular Body Figure which is essentially 1/6 scale Jake Gyllenhaal (see my earlier post HERE) and now let's compare the TTM19 with the earlier released Hot Toys TTM18 Caucasian 12-inch TrueType Male Figure Narrow Shoulder version.

Let me state firstly that Hot Toys TTM18 Caucasian 12-inch TrueType Male Figure Narrow Shoulder version does NOT come with the head shown! Hot Toys TTM18 - 1/6th scale TrueType 12-inch Body - Caucasian Male (Narrow Shoulder Version) comes with a head sculpt that bears a strong resemblance to Wentworth Miller (he of "Prison Break" fame). I have a picture of the packaged product HERE (as part of my September Haul of 2011).

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN!!!

I am using the HeadPlay 1/6 scale Heath version head sculpt on the Hot Toys TTM18 12-inch Figure body for a simple reason - these two just look comfortable getting "naked" together. For those of you who are not familiar, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were lovers in Ang Lee's 2005 romantic drama film "Brokeback Mountain" which depicts the complex romantic and sexual relationship between two men in the American West from 1963 to 1983. So what better way to show off the Hot Toys True Type bodies than to put them side by side ;p

BBK 1/6 Cowboy PREVIEW - aka Jonah Hex 12-inch Figure

Jonah Woodson Hex is a Western comic book antihero created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga and published by DC Comics. Despite his poor reputation and personality, Hex is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent. This is an upcoming release by yet another new 1/6 company BBK and it is a 12-inch COWBOY figure based on the DC character Jonah Hex played by Josh Brolin in the film adaptation. The BBK003 Cowboy figure will come with 1/6 head sculpt of Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex, 12-inch figure body, hat, shirt, vest (sepia style), leather belt, 2 scabbards, braces (sepia style), leather boots, coat (sepia style), revolver pistol x 2 and individual metal bullets x 50 pieces.

Medicom Jake Lonergan and Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde "Cowboys & Aliens" figures

"Cowboys & Aliens" is a 2011 American science fiction Western film directed by Jon Favreau and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. The main plot revolves around an amnesiac outlaw (Craig), a wealthy cattleman (Ford), and a mysterious traveler (Wilde) who must ally to save a group of townspeople abducted by aliens.

I had actually talked about 12-inch "Cowboys & Aliens" figures in an earlier post HERE, putting together 1/6 scale figures that had the actors' likenesses i.e. Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, Harrison Ford as Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde, and Adam Beach as Nat Colorado, Colonel Dolarhyde's right-hand man. Well, it looks like Medicom has secured the license to produce Jake Lonergan and Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde figures, and has released these prototype / preview pictures.

Here's the Medicom 1/6 scale Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, a wanted outlaw with amnesia and a strange metal band shackled to his wrist. Given Medicom's notorious reputation as an under-scaled manufacturer, this 1/6 Jake Lonergan figure won't be able to stand very tall at all which is a shame as the prototype head sculpt really shows a lot of promise.

Cowboys & Aliens

I would have never imagined watching a movie about cowboys and aliens. That would have seemed really far fetched and out of this world; and that is exactly how it was :) Cowboys & Aliens was released in Singapore last week and what a ride it was. Totally entertaining and enjoyable, and I would most definitely catch it a second time.

Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter praised the film, giving a summary that "It sounds kooky on paper but on the screen cowboys and aliens make beautiful, fun music together." Honeycutt felt that the success of the film's blend of aliens and western themes was due to "the determination by everyone involved to play the damn thing straight. Even the slightest goofiness, the tiniest touch of camp, and the whole thing would blow sky high. But it doesn't." Honeycutt appreciated the casting and performances in the film, giving particular mention to Ford, Wilde, and Craig. I cannot wait for the DVD to be out.

Looking at the cast of characters: Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, a wanted outlaw with amnesia; Harrison Ford as Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde, a powerful and rich cattleman who controls the town of Absolution; Olivia Wilde as Ella Swenson, a mysterious traveler; Sam Rockwell as Doc, a saloon owner; and Adam Beach as Nat Colorado, Colonel Dolarhyde's right-hand man; I couldn't help but imagine what a potentially nice collection of 1/6 figures they would make.

Well, while waiting for some 1/6 manufacturer to make 12-inch Cowboys & Aliens figures, I thought it would be interesting to put these three 1/6 scale characters together to get an idea of what they could look like as a trio i.e. Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Adam Beach.
