The Last Samurai is a 2003 American epic historical war film directed and co-produced by Edward Zwick, who also co-wrote the screenplay with John Logan. The film stars Tom Cruise, who also co-produced, as well as Ken Watanabe, Shin Koyamada, Tony Goldwyn, Hiroyuki Sanada, Timothy Spall, and Billy Connolly.
Tom Cruise portrays a formerly retired officer (US Army Captain Nathan Algren) of the United States 7th Cavalry Regiment, whose personal and emotional conflicts bring him into contact with samurai warriors in the wake of the Meiji Restoration in 19th Century Japan. The film's plot was inspired by the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion led by Saigō Takamori, and the westernization of Japan by foreign powers, though in the film the United States is portrayed as the primary force behind the push for westernization. To a lesser extent it is also influenced by the stories of Jules Brunet, a French army captain who fought alongside Enomoto Takeaki in the earlier Boshin War and Frederick Townsend Ward, an American mercenary who helped Westernize the Chinese army by forming the Ever Victorious Army.
From Pangaea Toy:
We are proud to introduce our new general, SAMURAI GENERAL. Samurai was the military nobility in Japan during the Shogunate. SAMURAI GENERAL is featuring a newly developed head sculpt with rooted hair, formal kimono, detailed sculpted Japanese armor with gauntlets and greaves, sword with metal blade and sidearm.

March 2016 Haul: Ashigaru Sandtrooper, 1/6th scale Agent Hunter and Maintenance Technician
My latest toy haul (March 2016): VTS Toys 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch action figure (most likely inspired by Tom Cruise' character as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the "Mission Impossible" films), Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch action figure (who looks a lot like Tom Cruise as Commander Jack Harper in the 2013 post-apocalyptic science fiction film OBLIVION and the Bandai Tamashii Exclusive Movie Realization Teppo Ashigaru Sandtrooper action figure. I'm quite the Tom Cruise fan, so much so I even have a "Tom Cruise" label on my toy blog for all the Tom Cruise related action figures. That being said, I also have labels for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford because there are so many 1:6 scale figures released with these movie stars' looks / head sculpts. These stars usually play "action heroes" in films, hence action figures of them are produced for the 12-inch figure collectible market. There are a lot of them now than when I first started collecting 1:6 scale action figures way back in 1994.
The Bandai Tamashii Exclusive Movie Realization Star Wars action figures have been rather popular and I for one am certainly hooked on them. I don't collect smaller sized figures because I like the realism found in 1:6 scale figures but I just find the whole concept of Star Wars characters being given a feudal Japan twist very refreshing, especially since the designs are really nice and well executed. I have already reviewed the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure on my toy blog HERE and HERE, followed by the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure review HERE and HERE. I have also gotten the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization Samurai Taisho Darth Vader 18 cm action figure (see my October 2015 toy haul post HERE) but have yet to post pictures.

Review Medicom RAH Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol 1/6th Ethan Hunt 12" Collectible Figure
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the 5th installment in the $2.1B franchise, took flight overseas on Thursday with rollout beginning in such key markets as Korea, the UK, Mexico and Australia. The opening gross through Friday is a muscular $26.4M and the offshore frame is on track for about $60M. Coupled with an expected domestic debut of $52.5M, Rogue has lit the fuse towards a $112M opening worldwide session. In total this weekend, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is tackling The Syndicate in 40 markets repping about 40% of the international footprint — in 20 of those markets, Rogue Nation is the star’s best bow ever.
In comparison, the last film in the M:I franchise, Ghost Protocol, was Cruise’s biggest ever offshore hit with over $485M. It took over $50M in Korea which was the title’s 3rd biggest market outside the U.S. 53-year old Cruise can play Ethan Hunt for as long as he cares to risk his life with stunts no other superstar would dare try. For Rogue Nation, he was strapped to the exterior door of an airborne jet plane, and everyone in the cast and crew prayed that he would be still tethered when the take is done and the plane lands. For Ghost Protocol, Tom had no qualms about scaling 124 floors outside of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai UAE, which is the world's tallest building, without the use of a stunt double.

This is the Medicom Toy RAH (Real Action Heroes) 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt 12-inch Collectible Figure released in 2013. This figure retailed at USD$299.99 and has sold out at Sideshow Collectibles but I managed to snag one for just USD$110 which is the price I'm most willing to fork out for a Medicom Toy figure. Medicom Toy figures have always been expensive and IMHO they are not even value-for-money when you compare them with Hot Toys figures although I have amassed quite a number of Medicom Toy figures in my toy collecting journey. In my defence, that was before Hot Toys were even in the market and at the time, Medicom Toy was the only company producing 1/6th scale movie-related merchandise / collectible for adults.

Preview VTS Toys 1/6th Agent Hunter 12-inch figure (Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt)
Ethan Matthew Hunt is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Mission: Impossible film series. The Mission: Impossible films are a series of action spy films based on the television series of the same name, produced by and starring Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. The Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team, was an unofficial branch of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and implied to be a black operations division of the Agency.
The famous phrase / line from the series was: "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves (fill in the mission) and should any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds." Cue theme music.
This is VTS Toys (VM-012) 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch figure (Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt) which will come with real like head sculpt, 12-inch action body, one (1) pair of hands, tactical gloved hands x 3. Costume / uniform consists of: black top / shirt, black jeans / pants, long sleeve tee, BDU belt, combat boots, tactical body armor / assault vest.
This is the second Tom Cruise character 12-inch figure to be previewed in less than a week. I had posted a Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) figure on my toy blog recently - see the post HERE. Makes you wonder how many Tom Cruise figures are out there. I had managed to score a Medicom Toy RAH 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt Collectible Figure in April (see my haul HERE) and I have quite a number of Tom Cruise related figures in my collection, so much so that I created a label titled "Tom Cruise".

Check out Play Toy P007 1/6 Maintenance Technician 12" figure aka Oblivion's Jack Harper
Last November, Play Toy announced that they were coming out with a 12-inch figure set called Maintenance Technician - check out my toy blog post HERE. Anyone who had seen the 2013 film OBLIVION would have recognised it right away as the character Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise). At the time, there was feedback from collectors who saw the pictures that it had a couple things wrong with it - namely the poor detail of the rifle and the absence of dust goggles. After some time, many thought the set would never come to fruition. Play Toy has just re-released all new images this week, with an improved set. Rifle has more detail, and the goggles are there! Isn't it nice when manufacturers listen to feedback :)
Oblivion is a 2013 post-apocalyptic science fiction film based on Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name. The film was co-written, produced and directed by Kosinski. The film is set in the year 2077, sixty years after Earth has been devastated from the effects of an alien invasion. Most of humanity has left Earth for a massive tetrahedral space station (called Tet).
Tom Cruise stars as Commander Jack Harper, one of the few remaining humans on Earth assigned to protect and maintain drones that extract Earth's resources to fuel the Tet. With only a couple of weeks away from joining the rest of humanity, Jack discovers a crashed spacecraft that forces him to question everything he believes.
Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch figure aka Oblivion's Jack Harper will come with: Head Sculpt, Male Body, Goggles, Pants, Jacket, Boots, Belt, Rifle, Sling, Pistol, Holster, Hand Assortment

I realized that when I still get excited about these things, it only shows that my passion for them has not waned, even after more than 20 years. I've been collecting toys (then upgraded to adult collectibles) since 1994 and I have been blogging about toys and action figures, and sharing my passion for them on the internet since July 2007. Sure, prices have been going up and up, and it's getting tougher to have the things you want but every time I do get something, there's still the thrill and satisfaction. Which begs the question: "Why do adults collect toys?" The answers can be found in my blog post of October 2014 titled "Why do adults collect toys? Also a BIG thank you for the more than 15,000,000 (15 million) page views so far" posted HERE.

Preview Very Hot 1/6 scale United States Navy VFA-41 Black Aces 12-inch pilot action figure
Very Hot Toys aka VHT has a unique way of going about their business which is different from other 1:6 manufacturers. VHT do not follow the trends set by by other 1:6 manufacturers in producing and releasing new products but instead, they prefer to release similar offerings based on what other 1:6 companies have offered in the past, specifically Hot Toys (HT) in their earlier days as a military figure company.
From the very beginning when VHT started releasing figures, they have followed closely along Hot Toys' footsteps albeit a few steps behind. The first figures VHT released were the 1/6 scale HK SDU (Hong Kong Special Duties Unit) which Hot Toys had released earlier. They were almost identical in every way in terms of the figure's outfit and accessories except perhaps in the area of quality. VHT's quality at the very beginning were shoddy and far from ideal. But they persevered and amazingly, they are still around today and have released quite a number of outfits and uniform sets over the years. Quality is still an issue with some hits and misses but their customer base seems to be growing steadily over the years as well.

These two new 12-inch fighter pilot figure sets being offered (see this post and the NEXT) resemble the ones previously released by Hot Toys some years back when Hot Toys was producing and releasing 1:6 scale military figures. VHT has recently gone into releasing figures with the outfits / uniforms (they had only released uniform sets in the past) and these two sets will most likely follow the trend of the previously announced sets where they will be available as a fully boxed figure and a gear / uniform only set.
What I find most intriguing is that not only does VHT's first two 12-inch pilot action figures have 1:6 scale head sculpts that bear strong resemblances to famous Hollywood actors who have played the role of fighter pilots in their career, VHT is following HT's footsteps exactly as HT had also released their first two pilot figures based on these same two actors. Hot Toys released their 1:6 scale F-14 Tomcat pilot figure (also their very first pilot / movie figure) "Jack Carter" - see my post HERE - alongside 12-inch F-18 Hornet Pilot (Will Smith as CPT Steven Hiller in the 1996 movie "Independence Day" or ID4") "Alan J Nance" in the year 2000. That's 14 years ago now! Wow, that's a long time back.

Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure Review II
continued from previous post...
Having reviewed the box and contents plus the first outfit which comes with the Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure aka 12-inch Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in "Mission: Impossible III" in my first part review, here's a look at the figure wearing the Grey Military Jacket which also comes with this boxed figure set. He also has a belt and drop down holster for his pistol. In his hands he has the 1/6 scale Heckler & Koch G36K assault rifle.

Brother Production certainly did a GREAT job with the 1/6 scale "Mission Important" head sculpt. There's no denying that the head sculpt bears a great resemblance to actor and action star Tom Cruise who has played the Ethan Hunt role four times already, with a fifth Mission Impossible film in the works. This could be the best 1:6 scale Tom Cruise head sculpt to date. But I just don't recall seeing Tom Cruise wearing this particular outfit in the films. Even a google search turned out negative. There just don't seem to be any pictures or screen grabs of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) wearing the Grey Military Jacket. Still, the figure looks bada$$ and I like the look.

Review 1: Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure
This is the recently released Brother Production Present 1:6 scale Custom Hand Made "Mission Important" 12-inch Figure. It was part of my December 2014 haul (posted earlier HERE)
Mission: Impossible III is the third installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. Tom Cruise returns as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, who is forced by an arms dealer to steal a mysterious technology known only as "The Rabbit's Foot" in exchange for his kidnapped wife. The 2006 sequel marked the feature film directorial debut of J.J. Abrams (Lost) and co-stars Maggie Q, Ving Rhames, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

It looks like the "Mission: Impossible III" film was the inspiration for Brother Production Presents 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made 12-inch Action Figure. Ethan Matthew Hunt is a senior field operations agent for the IMF (Impossible Missions Force), an elite, top-secret espionage and covert operations agency that handles dangerous and highly sensitive international missions that have been deemed "impossible". He is portrayed by Tom Cruise in all four films that have been released thus far.
This is not the first Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt figure to be released by Brother Production. They had earlier released the Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure which is very much based on Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in "MI4: Ghost Protocol". December 2014 First Haul: United States Riot Police, Mission Important, Groot and Call of Duty
These are my haul for December 2014 so far: ZCWO 1/6 scale United States Riot Police Shawn 12-inch figure, Brother Production Present 1:6 scale Custom Hand Made "Mission Important" 12-inch Action Figure, Funko POP! Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Dancing Groot Bobble Action Figure, Mega Bloks Call of Duty Desert Troopers and Mega Bloks Call of Duty Juggernaut.
12-inch figures feature strongly in all my hauls because I really dig this hobby of collecting 1/6 scale figures. It all started way back in 1994 (that's the last century, by the way) and I still haven't stopped yet. What's a 49-year-old man doing playing with toys / collectibles? I simply ENJOY it! I really appreciate the details of the figure and the process that went into putting the figure together for sale, and then me having to assemble the figure and taking pictures of the figure in various poses – sometimes even having to take them apart for closer examination – it's really a FUN thing to do. And being able to share them on my toy blog is all part of the sweet deal. Sometimes I even get figures sent to me for reviews - how cool is that! I wouldn't want it any other way.

The cover picture for the ZCWO 1/6 scale United States Riot Police "Shawn" boxed figure set (preview pictures posted earlier HERE) looks more like a scene from a post-apocalyptic future than a riot scene which I think ZCWO was trying to portray. The picture seems to fit the world of Mad Max (just saw the trailer and am very excited to see the movie when it comes out). I think the box background would work well with the post-apocalyptic figures I have, 1/6 scale Denzel Washington as Eli from "Book of Eli" (review of MC Toys 1/6 scale The End Walker 12-inch figure posted HERE and HERE) and 12-inch Will Smith as Robert Neville from "I am Legend" (review of MC Toys 1/6 scale Trialmaster Leather Jacket suit HERE)

Review III Brothers Production 1/6th scale Final Mission 12" figure: Ghost Protocol Ethan Hunt
continued from earlier post...
This will be my third and final post on Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure which is most obviously inspired by and based on Tom Cruise as IMF (Impossible Missions Force) Agent Ethan Hunt in Mission Imposssible 4: Ghost Protocol. IMHO I think this is a very good release by Brothers Production as this 1:6 figure certainly resembles Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt from the 2011 film. Looks much better than the Medicom Toys version (prototype pictures HERE) and costs way less plus you get two figures in one box (see my earlier review of the other figure HERE)
Tom Cruise performed a sequence where Ethan Hunt scales the outside of the Burj Khalifa tower, which is the tallest building in the world, without the use of a stunt double. Although Cruise appears to be free solo climbing in the film with the help of special gloves, in reality he was securely attached to the Burj Khalifa at all times by multiple cables. The cables were then digitally erased in post-production by Industrial Light & Magic.

Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in MI4: Ghost Protocol from Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure
continued from earlier post...
A substantial part of the plot of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth of the Mission: Impossible film series, takes place in and around the Burj Khalifa and involves Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt having to scale a large section of the exterior using high-tech adhesive gloves in order to access and hack the building's security systems. Filming included stuntwork on the building's exterior with some scenes shot in the IMAX format.
In the fourth film of the franchise, Hunt (having just escaped from prison) and his IMF team are blamed for an attack that destroys the Kremlin, resulting in the entire IMF division being disavowed. Despite lacking their usual resources, connections, technology, and backup, their mission is to find and stop a madman intent on nuclear war, having been 'ordered' by the Secretary of Defense to escape custody, retreat to a 'forgotten' safehouse, and track down the people truly responsible for the attack.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (also known as Mission: Impossible IV, or Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol) is a 2011 American action film, the fourth film in the Mission: Impossible series and stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role of IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, and is director Brad Bird's first live-action film. Upon release, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol became a critical and commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible film, and the highest-grossing film starring Tom Cruise.
"Ghost Protocol" is a black operation contingency that disavows the IMF (Impossible Missions Force, fictional independent espionage agency). In so doing, Ethan and his team are to take the blame for the attack / bombing of the Kremlin, but will be allowed to escape from government custody in order to track down "Cobalt" the antagonist / villain.
This is the recently released Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure which is most likely inspired by Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt as seen in the 2011 film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The picture above is an attempt to replicate the shot used for the promotional posters for the film where Ethan (Tom Cruise) has his face obscured under a hood to stay hidden since there's an international manhunt out for him. Pre-order Medicom Toys RAH "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt Figure
A Japanese Import by Medicom Toys Corp.
"Good morning, agent. Today's mission, should you choose to accept it: Seek out this 1:6 scale figure of fellow agent Ethan Hunt. This Real Action Hero is the first authentic replication of Tom Cruise as Agent Hunt, and captures him just prior to his climb of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dhubai. Standing approximately 12 inches high with climbing gloves, pistol and figure stand included, and using Medicom's superior RAH301KAI body, this RAH (Real Action Hero) should not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands. The IMF will disavow any knowledge of extended playtime, or of your turning your bookshelves into an imaginary skyscraper."
"Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol", an all out action film released in 2011, is the fourth installment in the "Mission: Impossible" series. It stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role of IMF (Impossible Missions Force) Agent Ethan Hunt, and is director Brad Bird's first live-action film.
The head sculpt looks pretty good as the resemblance to Tom Cruise is there with a pretty spot-on likeness but the goggles seem to be permanently attached to his face as all the available pictures show Ethan wearing the goggles. Being a Medicom Toys figure which is mostly under scale i.e. not really 1/6 but more like 1/7 scale, this figure might be just the right height ;p since Tom Cruise is not the tallest of actors.

Incoming: ZCWO IMINIME 1/6th Air Force Pilot "Carson" or Tom Cruise "Maverick" in Top Gun
Top Gun is a 1986 American action drama film directed by Tony Scott, and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, in association with the Paramount Pictures company. The film stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt. Cruise plays Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young Naval aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He and his Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Edwards) are given the chance to train at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School. The film depicts Maverick's progress through the training, his romance with a female instructor (McGillis), his overcoming a crisis of confidence following a fatal training accident, and the killing of several enemy pilots of unlisted nationality in a dogfight.
The primary inspiration for the film was the article "Top Guns", by Ehud Yonay, in the May 1983 issue of California magazine, which also featured aerial photography by then-Lieutenant Commander Charles "Heater" Heatley. The article detailed the TOPGUN fighter pilots at the Miramar Naval Air Station, located in San Diego, self-nicknamed as "Fightertown USA". [source: wiki]
This 1/6th scale "Carson" Air Force Pilot 12-inch figure or Tom Cruise as Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as seen in Top Gun is going to be released by ZCWO and IMINIME (from "I-Mini-Me"). Quite a good resemblance to the actor, especially with the photoshopped background :) Brings back a lot of memories. Great film and the soundtrack at the beginning was just AWESOME!

Crazy Owners 1/6 scale Last Samurai Victorian Suit Set
... continued from the previous post
After the futuristic outing in "Minority Report" in 2002, Tom Cruise starred in the Edward Zwick's historical drama "The Last Samurai" in 2003, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination as best actor. In "The Last Samurai", Tom Cruise as Captain Nathan Algren is a man adrift. It is the 1870s and the battles he once fought now seem distant and futile. Once he risked his life for honor and country, but, in the years since the Civil War, the world has changed. Pragmatism has replaced courage, self-interest has taken the place of sacrifice and honor is nowhere to be found - especially out West where his role in the Indian Campaigns ended in disillusionment and sorrow. Somewhere on the unforgiving plains near the banks of the Washita River, Algren lost his soul.
The Crazy Owners 1/6 scale Last Samurai Victorian Suit Set (circa 1868) will come with 1/6 scale head sculpt, white shirt, vest, frock coat, shoulder holster, revolver, trousers with real pockets, boots.
