Pre-order Prime 1 Studio "Transformers: Age of Extinction" 23.5-inch tall Drift Polystone Statue
Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles
At last. There is hope, after all.
Transformers: Age of Extinction is a 2014 3D science fiction action film based on the Transformers franchise. It is the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, with Peter Cullen reprising his role as Optimus Prime. It is both a sequel to 2011's Dark of the Moon and a soft reboot of the franchise, and takes place five years later, after the Decepticon invasion of Chicago.
Drift is one of five remaining Autobots hiding in the United States. He transforms into a blue and black Bugatti Veyron and his robot mode resembles that of a samurai warrior. He often says haikus in his dialogue and is at odds with Bumblebee, who was acting leader in Optimus Prime's absence, because he believes that Bumblebee is not a worthy leader, although they work very well in battle.

Pre-order ThreeA Transformers 18-inch (47cm) Tall Megatron Premium Scale Collectible Figure
Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles
Megatron is a character from the Transformers franchise, created by Hasbro, and based on a toy design by Takara. He is a sentient robotic lifeform from the planet Cybertron and the leader of the villainous Decepticons as well as the archenemy of the Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
In the 2007 live action Transformers film, Megatron's alternate mode is a Cybertronian jet. The apparent explanation for the departure from his gun form is that director Michael Bay does not want to include any sort of size changing in the transformations, which the writers described as "cheating". In one of the special features on the DVD, G1 Megatron's transformation was likened to Darth Vader turning into his own lightsaber to be wielded by someone else.
Sideshow Collectibles and ThreeA Toys are excited to announce the Megatron Premium Scale Collectible Figure from the blockbuster film Transformers. Standing over 18" tall, Megatron is fully posable with over 70 points of articulation and features realistic weathering effect paint application and LED light-up eyes.
Transformers fans, don't miss your chance to own the most powerful Decepticon leader of all time.

Happy Chinese New Year to one and all in the year of the snake from Night Viper Transformer
It's the Chinese New Year today and this is also the Year of the Snake so what a better way to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year than with a post on snakes about snakes or a snake toy since this is a toy blog after all
This is the Hasbro Transformers Beast Machines Heroic Maximal Night Viper Cobra toy action figure that was released in the year 2000. Night Viper is a Maximal from the Beast Machines portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Night Viper is a Recon Specialist and according to the description on the card which he came in, Night Viper is the stealthiest Maximal. His tail acts as a repulsor rocket, providing supersonic speed. Internal radar scramblers allow him to move virtually unseen in both robot and beast mode. His robot mode features frictionless surface, increasing his speed and making him an extremely hard target. Armor alloys deflect most energy pulses. Recycles enemy fire into plasma venom blasts that short circuit Vehicon circuitry.

REVIEW II: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Class Optimus Prime
Continuing from where I left off in the previous post, this is the 2008 released Hasbro Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Class Optimus Prime CLEAR version in robot mode as we had already seen him in vehicle / truck mode in the previous post.
In robot mode, Voyager Class Optimus Prime is proportionally more accurate to his CGI design than the Leader Class toy and has a more accurate headsculpt.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Class Optimus Prime REVIEW 1
Remember how much I like anything transparent that shows the working parts inside? I had posted transparent versions of the Bandai MS-06 Zaku II clear color version model kit and Bandai Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2 clear color version model kit in earlier posts (click on the links to bring you there). Well, my wonderful wife and number ONE supporter surprised me with this transparent / clear version Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime recently :) Even though I don't really collect Transformers toys, I cannot resist one that is clear / transparent but you must know that already. So on with the show!
This is the 2008 released Hasbro Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Class Optimus Prime CLEAR version which features: Autobot leader Optimus Prime from the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" movie. It transforms from robot to truck in the blink of an eye (well, almost) and has missile-firing cannons. He's ready for battle. Are you?

Look What The Postman Brought
I received a very nice package last week from Adrian, he of Little Plastic Man fame :) If you recall, Adrian recently made a a STGCC 2011 Paper Toy which was a 3-D interpretation of the new STGCC 2011 logo I'd re-designed (see my post HERE) and he was kind enough to send the paper toy to me - THANKS once again, Adrian; Daisy's really pleased with it.
I thought it'll be nice to do a little reenactment of the little guy's journey from Little Plastic Man to Toy Haven. Any resemblance is purely coincidental and "Cube-e" is only too happy to help out.

Happy Chinese New Year :) - it's not too late
The Chinese New Year started on Thursday, February 3 and it's already been a few days of the Lunar New Year but since traditionally, this "Spring Festival" - literal translation of the Chinese name 春节 (Pinyin: Chūn Jié) - is celebrated for 15 days, it's still okay for me to wish everyone HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!
And because this is the Year of the Rabbit (2011), here's "hopping" everyone have a prosperous new year and as we say over here "HUAT ah!" (meaning: "To prosper")

Maximal Lio Convoy OR Leo Prime
Lio helped me celebrate our nation's birthday (see my post HERE) so he gets to have his own entry :)
Lio Convoy is a Maximal from the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family. He is also known as Leo Prime.
Taking place in "the seventh month of Space Year 1999", we learn that while Optimus Primal and Megatron fight their Beast War on planet Energoa, another Beast War has erupted on a strange planet, where a Maximal space patrol has had a run-in with platoon of Predacons who are in search of "The King of Angolmois". Leo Prime is a Maximal commander, who leads The Pack.
Beast Wars II Lio Convoy (Leo Prime) toy produced by Takara Japan in 1998. Jared (my eldest son, now 16) had been collecting Beast Wars toys from a very young age when the animated TV series was being shown on the television and this is just one of those that he has outgrown. We still keep it for sentimental reasons.
Lio Convoy transforms into an organic white lion articulated at the legs and head. The button on top of his head opens his beast-mode jaw.

Happy National Day!
Singapore turns 45 today (as will I in a few months time :]) and being our nation's National Day, I wanted to pay tribute to my country and let everyone know how proud I am to be a Singaporean.
One of the early history of Singapore tells the tale of a prince named Sang Nila Utama, who landed on the island during the 13th century. While hunting, he saw a strange animal which moved with great speed as it disappeared into the jungle. He asked his chief minister what animal it was, and was told that it probably was a lion. The prince took this as an auspicious sign and named this city "Singapura". "Singa" means lion and "pura" means city. The name thus means the Lion City. Sang Nila Utama ruled Singapura for 48 years and was buried on Bukit Larangan (present-day Fort Canning Hill).
So here's Leo Prime (he is often referred to by his Japanese name Lio Convoy because his English name Leo Prime wasn't coined by Hasbro until 2006) to represent the Lion that is "Lion City". Leo Prime is a Maximal commander, who leads The Pack. Leo Prime takes the form of a white lion in beast mode on the planet Gaia (in reality a future Earth).
Here's white lion Leo Prime in transformed Autobot mode, saluting with the Singapore flag. The Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem Rules define the flag's composition and the symbolism of its elements: red symbolises "universal brotherhood and equality of man", and white, "pervading and everlasting purity and virtue". The waxing crescent moon "represents a young nation on the ascendant". The five stars "stand for the nation's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality".
So here's to Singapore and all Singaporeans, and wishing for many more good years to come!

Beast Wars Maximal Grimlock
Beast Wars Grimlock is a redeco of Dinobot (seem to have misplaced him), transforming into a velociraptor albeit of an albino kind. Like Dinobot (who was first a Predacon before becoming a Maximal), Grimlock's tail becomes a spinning slasher sword. He was slightly retooled to have ratcheting shoulders and space for an "energon chip" rubsign.

Predacon Leader Megatron
Since I was on the topic of dinosaurs (see last post), let's look at some other dinosaur toys :)
In the "Beast Wars: Transformers" full-CG animated television series, Megatron is the mastermind commander of the Predacons.
For the "Beast Wars" toy line, Megatron was in the Ultra-class range and this Megatron transformed into a purple organic Tyrannosaurus Rex (no relation to the other purple dinosaur named Barney) with two missiles and a water squirter as accessories.
Note: The landscape pictures get bigger when you click on them

Megatron has limited articulation in beast mode, but his dinosaur head can shoot water. You take out the tongue by removing the neck portion and fill it up with water.
By pressing the top of Megatron's head, the tongue squirts out water
In robot mode, Megatron has no hands, as his right arm ends with his dinosaur head and his tail, folded into a pincer, forms his left arm. The outer shells of his dinosaur thighs conceal spring-loaded missile launchers that fire anchor-shaped projectiles.
His robot head feature two bat-like wing adornments that fold to become a mutant head.
Megatron unmasked

Maximal General Optimus Primal
continued from the previous post...
The two main factions in the "Beast Wars: Transformers" CG-animated series were descendants of the two main factions in the original cartoon: the Maximals were the descendants of the Autobots and the Predacons were the descendants of the Decepticons. The names were intended to stem from the terms Mammal and Predator but were not necessarily consistent with the alternate forms of the Transformers.
Optimus Primal was the commander of the Maximals and their ship the Axalon. A brave and compassionate leader, Optimus named himself after a great hero of old: Optimus Prime. When I found out that the latest incarnation of Optimus was a gorilla, I was pretty shocked. I may not know Transformers well but everybody knows Optimus Prime was COOL and an ape just wasn't.
But my first born (who will be 16 this year - my, how time flies) enjoyed watching the animated series and it was a kind of father-son bonding thing to watch it with him so when it came time to have toys, I let him choose the ones he liked. So here he is, Optimus Primal. Optimus Primal was an ape in the Ultra size class.

Though the transformation from primate to humanoid was a relatively simplistic one, the toy compensated with more than a fair share of weaponry and action features.
A compartment on his right forearm opened to reveal a skull-shaped mace he could hold in his fist. His left forearm could open into a double-barreled missile launcher.

On his back were two spring-loaded missile launchers which auto-flipped over each shoulder.
Optimus Prime fully loaded to take on the Predacons
Optimus Primal also came with two swords which could held with one hand, just like Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsabre
Or Optimus Primal could just have one sword for close quarter combat, robot-to-robot
By pulling a lever in the center of his back, both arms would either spin at the bicep or bend in and out at the elbow, depending on the placement of notch-buttons located on either bicep. This gimmick was shown to be an effort to simulate a gorilla beating its chest while Optimus was in beast mode, but could also be used in robot mode, making him swing his weapons wildly before himself.

Like many first-year Beast Wars toys, there was also a battle mask / "mutant head" which could be deployed over his robot head but it's UGLY so I opted to do without.
Optimus Primal's most repeated quote: "Well, that's just prime."
