Alert Line WWII USMC BAR Gunner Uniform Set

The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) is a family of American automatic rifles and machine guns used by the United States and numerous other countries during the 20th century. The primary variant of the BAR series was the M1918, chambered for the .30-06 Springfield rifle cartridge and designed by John Browning in 1917 for the U.S. Expeditionary Corps in Europe as a replacement for the French-made Chauchat and M1909 Benét–Mercié machine guns that US forces had previously been issued.

The BAR was designed to be carried by infantrymen during an assault advance while supported by the sling over the shoulder, or to be fired from the hip.

FORECON is responsible for operating independently behind enemy lines performing unconventional special operations, in support of conventional warfare. The unit's various methods of airborne, heliborne, submarine and waterborne insertions and extractions are similar to those of the Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, 75th Ranger Regiment, or Air Force Combat Controllers, although Force Recon's missions and tasks do differ slightly with a focus on primarily supporting Marine expeditionary and amphibious operations.

The last of original Navajo code talkers of World War II, has died at age 93. R.I.P. Chester Nez

Jun 5, 2014: Chester Nez, last of original Navajo code talkers of World War II, has died at age 93.

"We mourn his passing but honor and celebrate the indomitable spirit and dedication of those Marines who became known as the Navajo code talkers," the Marines said in a statement.

Nez was the last remaining of the original 29 Navajos recruited by the Marine Corps to develop the legendary code that was used for vital communications during battle. He was a teenager when he was recruited in 1942 and assigned with the other code talkers to the Marine Corps' 382nd Platoon at Camp Pendleton. Together, they created a code, including developing a dictionary. Military authorities chose Navajo as a code language because its syntax and tonal qualities were almost impossible for a non-Navajo to learn, and it had no written form. The ranks of the Navajo code talkers swelled to more than 300 by the end of the war in 1945.

The code talkers were forbidden from telling anyone about it -- not their fellow Marines, not their families -- until their work was declassified in 1968. The original 29 were presented with the Congressional Gold Medal in 2001 by President George W. Bush.

"In developing our code, we were careful to use everyday Navajo words, so that we could memorize and retain the words easily," Nez told CNN in 2011 while promoting his book "Code Talker." "I think that made our job easier, and I think it helped us to be successful in the heat of battle."

Dam Toys Elite Series 1/6 scale USMC Reconnaissance Battalion M27 Rifleman figure

The Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU) is the current battledress uniform of the United States Marine Corps. It is also worn by Navy personnel (mostly corpsmen and chaplains) assigned to Marine Corps units (Fleet Marine Force). The MCCUU, and its distinctive camouflage pattern, MARPAT (short for MARine PATtern), are exclusive to the Marine Corps, which holds the patents to their design. MARPAT is available in two color schemes, woodland and desert. Flame Resistant Organizational Gear (FROG) is clothing used by the United States Marine Corps to reduce the number of injuries resulting from fire and flash (especially burns), due to the increased use of improvised explosive devices in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The FROG system consists of a long-sleeve shirt, t-shirt, combat shirt, combat trousers, gloves, and a balaclava. The shirts and trousers are camouflaged in MARPAT, while the remainder are colored in either sand or olive drab.

This is the upcoming Dam Toys Elite Series No.78014 1/6 scale USMC Reconnaissance Battalion M27 Rifleman 12-inch figure wearing the latest gear and FROG suit (desert MARPAT), FROG pants (desert MARPAT), USMC rat boots (CB), M27 IAR, TA11SDO-CP ACOG 3.5x35 scope, backup sight, AN/PEQ-16 laser, tango grip, BRMS bipods, sling adapter and rifle sling.

Dam Toys has certainly improved by leaps and bounds and have been releasing a slew of military figures, all of them with tons of gear and with great detailing. Always nice to have a basic grunt / trooper because they do form the bulk of the world's armies / marines. There should always be a balance between the grunt and the special operations guy even though it seems like the special ops guys get a lot of the attention. Scroll down to see all the pictures.

Preview DID 1/6 scale USMC Force Recon Brigadier General "Frank" 12-inch figure

The Rock is a 1996 action film that primarily takes place on Alcatraz Island and in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was directed by Michael Bay, director of Bad Boys and Pearl Harbor, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, producers of Top Gun and Crimson Tide, and stars Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris.

A group of rogue U.S. Force Recon Marines led by disenchanted Brigadier General Frank Hummel (Ed Harris) seize a stockpile of deadly VX gas–armed M55 rockets from a heavily guarded US Navy bunker, reluctantly leaving one of their men to die in the process, when a bead of the gas falls and breaks. The next day, Hummel and his men, along with more renegade Marines led by Captains Frye (Gregory Sporleder) and Darrow (Tony Todd), seize control of Alcatraz during a guided tour and take 81 tourists hostage in the prison cells.

Hummel threatens to launch the stolen rockets against the population of San Francisco unless the government pays them $100 million from a military slush fund containing money from illegal arms sales, which he will distribute to his troops and the families of Recon Marines who died on clandestine missions under his command and whose deaths were not honored.

Preview DAM Toys 1/6 scale MARSOC Special Ops Team - Operator 12-inch military figure

DAM Toys has already given us a sneak peek of their upcoming USMC MARSOC (Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command) Team Leader from a few weeks ago (see my post HERE). Now they have added their new USMC MARSOC Special Operations Regiment Operator to the team as well.

DAM Toys 1/6 scale MARSOC Special Ops Team - Operator 12-inch military action figure will be wearing the same Gen3 woodland camo combat pants, but this time is outfitted with the SOF-PCU Level 5 Jacket (with tan long sleeve shirt underneath). He will be armed with the SOPMOD M4 12" RISII Gl/SSC rifle with M203 Grenade Launcher, and carries a 1911 MEU(SOC) Pistol, holstered on his coyote brown Modular Body Armor Vest (MBAV), which itself is loaded with every pouch and accessory imaginable. Rounding it off is a MICH 2000 Helmet with night vision gear, and two radios (with headset) and you're good to go!

DAM Toys seem to be going into Soldier Story territory now. When DAM Toys first started out, they were in close competition with Art Figures, producing 12-inch figures from the movies that Hot Toys was not touching e.g. both Art Figures and DAM Toys released a Delta Force operator from "Black Hawk Down" but DAM Toys went on to release a total of six 1/6 scale military action figures from the "Black Hawk Down" film and are now in the process of releasing the whole SEAL squad from the "Tears of the Sun" movie (Art Figures only released the Bruce Willis as Lt AK Waters figure). And now this – something that is right up Soldier Story's alley. Scroll down to see the pictures.

Preview DAM Toys 1/6 MARSOC (Marine Special Ops Regiment) Special Ops Team leader

Marine Special Operations Regiment (MSOR) consists of a Headquarters Company and three Marine Special Operations Battalions. The MSOBs are tasked with direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, and information operations. They are also trained to carry out peacetime foreign internal defense and unconventional warfare. This includes giving military training to friendly foreign nations. These Marine elite of the Marine Special Operations Teams of the MSOB was initially drafted from the famous Force Reconnaissance Marines.

The Marine Raiders were elite units established by the USMC during World War II to conduct amphibious light infantry warfare, particularly in landing in rubber boats and operating behind the lines. Raiders are said to be the first United States special operations forces to form and see combat in World War II. Raiders Lt Col Evans F. Carlson used egalitarian and team-building methods learned from the Communists during his years in China: he treated raiders officers and enlisted men with minimum regard to rank as leaders and fighters, gave his men "ethical indoctrination," describing for each man what he was fighting for and why, and used the Chinese phrase "Gung-ho!" as a motivational slogan.

Looks like DAM Toys is going into Soldier Story's territory ;p Soldier Story has been the king of 1/6 scale modern warfare 12-inch military figures (Playhouse is also up there but doesn't seem to put out as many figures) with DiD staying focused producing and releasing military figures of the World War II era. Now DAM Toys seem to be coming up strong on the market with their own version of the modern warrior. It's all good for us 1/6 scale figure collectors because it only means that there are more options for us to choose from.

Preview Soldier Story 1991 Operation Desert Saber 1/6 USMC "Jarhead" 12" Military Figure

Jarhead is a 2005 biographical drama war film based on U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford's 2003 memoir of the same name, directed by Sam Mendes, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Cooper. The title comes from the slang term used to refer to U.S. Marines (sometimes by Marines themselves).

Jamie Foxx plays SSgt Sykes. Staff Sergeant Sykes is a Marine lifer. He is Swoff and Troy's training SNCO during Scout Sniper training at Camp Pendleton. If you've been wanting to add a 1990s Gulf War Era 12-inch military figure to your collection, now's the time :) First there was the DAM Toys 1/6 USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure (pictures HERE) and now this.

From Soldier Story will come this 1/6 scale USMC 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Division grunt from Operation Desert Saber, Kuwait 1991. The Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), codenamed Operation Desert Storm (17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991) was a war waged by a UN-authorized coalition force from 34 nations led by the United States, against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

Incoming: DAM 1/6 USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure

"Jarhead" is a 2005 biographical drama war film based on former United States Marine Anthony Swofford's best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. It was directed by Sam Mendes, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Cooper. The title comes from the slang term used to refer to U.S. Marines (sometimes by Marines themselves).

Anthony "Swoff" Swofford enlists in the Marines in the late 1980s. He malingers during boot camp, but makes it through as a sniper, paired with the usually-reliable Troy. The Gulf War breaks out, and his unit goes to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. After 175 days of boredom, adrenaline, heat, worry about his girlfriend finding someone else, losing it and nearly killing a mate, demotion, latrine cleaning, faulty gas masks, and desert football, Desert Storm begins. In less than five days, it's over, but not before Swoff sees burned bodies, flaming oil derricks, an oil-drenched horse, and maybe a chance at killing. Where does all the testosterone go?

Now from 1/6 manufacturer DAM comes this 1/6th scale USMC in the Persian gulf war (Operation Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch figure with real like head sculpt resembling Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with 12-inch action body, OD green t-shirt, Desert camouflage BDU (battle dress uniform) shirt and trousers, BDU belt, Desert camouflage jungle hat, PASGT helmet, Desert camouflage PASGT cover, PASGT flak jacket with Desert camouflage PASGT flak jacket cover, NBC suit, Panama outsole all-leather combat boots.

Preview: DID 1/6 United States Marine Corps Dress Blues / Ceremonial Guard 12-inch figure

The Uniforms of the United States Marine Corps serve to distinguish Marines from members of other services. Among current uniforms in the United States Armed Forces, the Marines' uniforms have been in service the longest. The Marine Dress Blue uniform has, with few changes, been worn in essentially its current form since the 19th century.

The Marine Corps dress blue uniform is the most formal of a Marine's uniforms, and is often referred to as "Dress Blues", due to the color (as distinguished from the green and khaki service uniforms). It is also the most recognizable uniform of the Marine Corps, often seen in recruiting advertisements. It is often called "Dress Blues" or simply "Blues". It is equivalent in composition and use to civilian black tie.

DID will be releasing this 1/6th scale US Marine Corps Dress Blues / Ceremonial Guard "Tony" 12-inch military figure which will come with: 1/6th scale "Tony" head sculpt with New All Era 12-inch figure body, White Barracks Cover, Khaki Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt, Khaki Tie, Tie Clip, White Belt with Gold Buckle, Sky Blue Trousers with "Blood Stripe", White Trousers, Dress Blue Greatcoat, Midnight Blue Coat, Two Sets of Insignia, Ceremonial Bayonet & Scabbard, Sword (metal) with Highly Detailed Engraving, Sword Scabbard, M1 Garand Rifle (Wood and Metal), New Style Shoes

Just some 1/6th scale 12-inch fighting Marines from the United States Marine Corps (USMC)

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. The Marine Corps has served in every American armed conflict and attained prominence in the 20th century when its theories and practices of amphibious warfare proved prescient and ultimately formed the cornerstone of the Pacific campaign of World War II. By the mid-20th century, the Marine Corps had become the dominant theorist and practitioner of amphibious warfare. Its ability to rapidly respond on short notice to expeditionary crises gives it a strong role in the implementation and execution of American foreign policy.

As of 2010 the United States Marine Corps included just under 203,000 active duty Marines and just under 40,000 reserve Marines. The Marine Corps is larger than the armed forces of many significant military powers, being larger than the active duty Israel Defense Forces and the active duty British Army. [source: wiki]

The Marine Corps has the most stable and most recognizable uniforms in the American military; the Blue Dress dates back to the early 19th century and the service uniform to the early 20th century. Marines have three main uniforms: Dress, Service, and Utility. The Utility Uniform, currently the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, is a camouflage uniform intended for wear in the field or for dirty work in garrison, though it has now been standardized for regular duty. It is rendered in a distinctive MARPAT pixelated camouflage (sometimes referred to as digitals or digies) that breaks up the wearer's shape, and serves to distinguish Marine uniforms from those of other services.

Soldier Story USMC Francis Hummel - 2012 BBICN JCSH (Shanghai) Exhibition Exclusive

In the 1996 action film "The Rock" which primarily takes place on Alcatraz Island and in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ed Harris was disenchanted USMC Force Recon Brigadier General Francis X. (Frank) Hummel, who led a group of rogue Force Recon Marines in seizing a stockpile of deadly VX gas–armed rockets from a heavily guarded military bunker. They then seize control of Alcatraz during a guided tour and take 81 tourists hostage in the prison cells. Hummel threatens to launch the stolen rockets against the population of San Francisco unless the government pays ransom and reparations to the families of Recon Marines who died on illegal, clandestine missions under his command and whose deaths were not honored.

This is the Soldier Story 1/6th scale USMC Francis Hummel - 2012 BBICN JCSH (Shanghai) Exhibition Exclusive 12-inch military Figure. It is of a USMC Rifleman (I had just posted about the Very Hot USMC Rifleman uniform set in the previous post) in digital Woodlands MARPAT (MARine PATtern) camouflage uniform with similar gear as the Very Hot version, including the M16A4 rifle and the M72 LAW. But unlike VeryHot's version, this Soldier Story 1/6th scale USMC is a top notch figure and the M72 LAW is one-of-a-kind with much improved features (scroll down to see the step-by-step "arming" process). Too bad it's an exhibition exclusive which means limited quantities.

Review: Very Hot 1/6th scale USMC Rifleman Uniform Set - Semper Fi (Always Faithful)

This is the Very Hot 1/6th scale USMC (United States Marine Corps) Rifleman Uniform Set (Note: NO 12-inch figure is included!). It is supposedly based on a US Marine Infantryman stationed in Afghanistan. Infantry is the central component of Marine ground forces. Infantrymen are trained to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, or repel the enemy's assault by fire and close combat. Riflemen serve as the primary scouts, assault troops and close combat forces within each infantry unit. The USMC Rifleman is trained in close combat, operating either the M16A4 rifle, M203 grenade launcher or the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.

When I first saw preview pictures of this VeryHot 1/6th scale USMC Rifleman Outfit set for 12-inch Figures, I was wondering why the Marine was wearing the Digital Woodland camouflage uniform instead of the Digital Desert Camo but have found out since that this is what the US Marines are currently wearing in Afghanistan.

The description on the box packaging cover reads:
"U.S. Marine Corps is the oldest elite force with about 194,000 men and women. It is even bigger than most countries' armed forces. U.S. Marine Corps is the major U.S. combat force of Rapid reaction force which has a long and remarkable history."

How the Marines video made the Afghan war even tougher by USMC Captain Timothy Kudo

The post below by Timothy Kudo, a Marine captain who served in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2009 to 2011 and a senior membership associate with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America appeared in THE WASHINGTON POST, 13/01/12:

In March I returned from Afghanistan’s Helmand province after handing about 12 square miles of villages and farmlands to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, the unit that is allegedly responsible for recording a video of Marines urinating on the corpses of Taliban insurgents. The actions of these few Marines have rightfully garnered widespread disdain, but for me the affront is personal. In a 42-second video, these Marines undid everything that my unit spent seven months working to accomplish.

Many civilians I’ve talked to about the incident act like it’s no surprise. Hollywood and media depictions have convinced them that war is filled with atrocities such as this one and that, but for lack of coverage, they’d hear more about them. But those of us who have worn the uniform don’t excuse these acts by saying, “War is hell.” There’s right and wrong in war, and we probably know that better than anyone else, because we’ve seen the life-or-death consequences of our decisions.

VeryHot: 1/6 scale USMC Rifleman Outfit set for 12-inch Figure - Preview

Besides the Black Action Sniper (see earlier post), VeryHot will also be releasing a 1/6 scale USMC Rifleman outfit set for 12-inch figures. As with all of VeryHot releases since day one when they came on the scene, this United States Marine Corps uniform set will NOT include a 12-inch figure body nor a 1/6 scale head sculpt. And since the U.S. has exited Iraq, it's safe to say that this modern USMC figure looks to be based on the marines operating in Afghanistan right now.

EXCEPT I think the US Marines in Afghanistan would be wearing the Desert variant of MARPAT (MARine PATtern - a digital camouflage pattern in use with the United States Marine Corps, introduced with the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform or MCCUU, which replaced the Camouflage Utility Uniform) instead of this Digital Woodland Camo. And why is he wearing desert MARPAT helmet cover when everything else is in green? I also think that the rifle magazine should have been black instead of silver. That just looks wrong :(

The problem with this set is that it can be easily bashed by combining parts from the PlayHouse and Soldier Story Marine figures and even then, PlayHouse and Soldier Story have better quality parts. That's why I never really go for VeryHot military outfit sets because they are lacking the good stuff which Soldier Story and Playhouse are already producing. This is not bad for a budget set, but unfortunately it is generally inferior to existing offerings already available.

Incoming: ToysCity 1/6 US Navy Corpsman - Joint Operations

A US Navy Hospital Corpsman (HM) is an enlisted medical specialist for the United States Navy who serves with Navy and United States Marine Corps units. The Hospital Corpsman works in a wide variety of capacities and locations, including shore establishments such as naval hospitals and clinics, aboard ships, and as well as the primary medical caregivers for sailors while underway. Hospital Corpsmen are frequently the only medical care-giver available in many fleet or Marine units on extended deployment. [source: wiki]

Qualified hospital corpsmen may be assigned the responsibility of independent duty aboard ships and submarines; Fleet Marine Force, SEAL and Seabee units, and at isolated duty stations where no medical officer is available. The colloquial form of address for a Hospital Corpsman is "Doc." In the U.S. Marine Corps, this term is generally used as a sign of respect.

Caltek 1/6 scale Dress Blue Marine 12-inch Figure Preview

The Marine Corps dress uniform is an elaborate uniform worn for formal or ceremonial occasions. Its basic form of a blue jacket with red trim dates back to the 19th century. It is the only U.S. military uniform that incorporates all three colors of the U.S. Flag. There are three different variations of the Dress uniform: Evening Dress, Blue Dress, and Blue-White Dress; only officers and staff non-commissioned officers (SNCOs) are authorized to wear the Evening Dress. [source: wiki]

The most recognizable uniform of the Marine Corps is the Blue Dress uniform, often seen in recruiting advertisements. It is often called "Dress Blues" or simply "Blues". It is equivalent in composition and use to civilian black tie.

Blue Dress "A" has a long-sleeved midnight blue coat (enlisted members have red trim) with a standing collar and belt (white web belt and gold waistplate for enlisted; midnight blue for officers with a gold M-buckle), white barracks cover (a peaked cap), plain white shirt, sky blue trousers (midnight blue for general officers), white gloves, and black dress shoes and socks. Full-size medals are worn on the left chest, with ribbon-only awards worn on the right.

Veryhot 1/6 USMC Barrett M82 Sniper uniform set Preview

Remember what I said in the previous post about Very Hot being a sniper company, going sniper crazy and just releasing every type of 1/6 scale sniper there is? Well, I wasn't kidding :) Very Hot is not just releasing one more sniper to the earlier ones they have already shown us, they are releasing TWO more sniper 12-inch figures.

This upcoming Very Hot USMC Sniper uniform set is of a USMC Marine sniper wearing the Desert MARPAT utility uniform (MCCUU) and will come with a camouflaged .50 cal Barrett Sniper Rifle, and is outfitted in coyote brown gear.

As with all of VeryHot uniform sets, NO 1/6 head sculpt or 12-inch figure body will accompany this uniform set. The pictures released with figure are just to show off the uniform and sniper kit and how the outfit looks on the figure so don't expect any BODY when you purchase this VeryHot USMC Barrett M82 Sniper uniform set.

Unlike MultiCam which is a single camouflage pattern designed to help the wearer hide in varied environments, seasons, elevations, and light conditions – It is a 7-color, multi-environment camouflage pattern developed by Crye Associates in conjunction with U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center (also known as U.S Army Natick labs) – the Marine's MARPAT camouflage has to be switched when operating in different environments, hence the need for desert MARPAT as well as Woodland MARPAT.

Veryhot 1/6 USMC M40A3 Sniper uniform set Preview

Very Hot might as well be called a company of snipers, i.e. 1/6 scale snipers ;p Very Hot really seems to be on a Sniper frenzy. Last month, they announced the early Iraqi War era USMC Scout Sniper uniform set, and the Tactical Concealment inspired Army Sniper uniform set, complete with CheyTac Intervention 200 Sniper Rifle.

Not having enough of snipers, they are now back to showing some love for the United States Marine Corps, with their USMC Scout Sniper Uniform and Kit Set in Woodland MARPAT utility uniform, complete with bergen and M40A3.

The US Army have their ACU and MultiCam while the USMC have their MARPAT (MARine PATtern) MCCUU (Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform). In fact, the Marines were the ones who were already putting on digital camouflage in 2002. When the uniforms were first introduced, Dragon Models Limited wasted no time in producing 1/6 scaled MARPAT MCCUU and the first of these was the USMC LRRP "John" in 2002. He came fully decked with his USMC MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-bearing Equipment) which consisted of his FLC (Fighting Load Carrier) along with his main rucksack secured to a lightweight frame together with his sleeping mat and additional pouches. Check out my post HERE for a look at this stunning figure that was ahead of its time :)
