Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015 with Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters

Well, it looks like 2014 is coming to an end...

It has been a GREAT year; every year is a good year when you can still play with toys LOL So to help send off the old and bring on the new, I have these cute Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters to say goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015. For someone who has been collecting toys since 1994, it's always been FUN! If it's no longer fun, then I'll probably stop doing it. These Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Micro Fighters are pretty cool. I believe there have been only six microfighters released so far and these two were the only ones I got excited about. The only other one I might get is the TIE Interceptor microfighter with TIE Fighter pilot.

When it comes to the Millennium Falcon, I have quite a few but none beats the awesomeness that is the Hasbro Toys Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon. You can check out the review on my toy blog HERE and also the other Star Wars vehicles HERE. Now with the Millennium Falcon being featured in the new Star Wars film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (also known as "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens"), the Millennium Falcon is going to get a lot more attention than ever before. Can't wait to see the movie out next year :)

Check out this CooModel 1/6 scale Battle Royale series Iron Island "Abba Ray" 12-inch figure

This soon-to-be-released CooModel Item No.: SK08 1/6 scale Battle Royale series Iron Island "Abba Ray" 12-inch figure appears to be part of Coo Model's "Battle Royale" series which seems to be set in the post-apocalyptic future where things are bleak and people no longer have heads

So far I count three figures released from the series - COO Model 1/6 scale SK Series No. SK04 "Iron Island" Jack-5 12-inch figure (posted in my toy blog HERE) followed by COO Model SK Series (No.:SK06) Iron Island: 1/6th scale Jack-3 12-inch robot figure (previewed HERE) and Coo Model SK07 Iron Island Battle Royale 1/6 scale Sergeant Devil Johnny 12-inch armor figure (posted HERE). The Sergeant Devil Johnny 12-inch armor figure reminded me of another figure released many years ago - "Zero Metal Defence Capsule" ZMDC Dingo Patrol 12-inch figure (reviewed HERE) Very similar concept even though they are at least a decade (10 years) apart!

CooModel Item No.: SK08 1/6 scale Battle Royale series Iron Island "Abba Ray" 12-inch figure will come with: 1/6 scale Head, 12-inch figure Body, Helmet , machine arm x 3, machine hand x 2, Armor vest, battery pack, T-shirt, Pants, boots, Knives x 2, knife sheaths x 2, Belt. Figure display base.

Review 1: ZCWO 1/6th scale United States Riot Police "Shawn" 12-inch action figure

This was from my earlier haul in December 2014 (posted HERE)

Battle in Seattle is a 2007 political action film and the directorial debut of actor Stuart Townsend. It is based on the protest activity at the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999. The film premiered on May 22, 2008 at the Seattle International Film Festival.

The film depicts the protest in 1999, as thousands of activists arrive in Seattle, Washington in masses to protest the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999. The movie takes an in-depth look at several fictional characters during those five days in 1999 as demonstrators protested the meeting of the WTO in Seattle's streets. The movie portrays conflicts between the peaceful protesters and a minority committing property destruction whose actions were widely covered by the media. Although the protest began peacefully with a goal of stopping the WTO talks, police began teargassing the crowd after it refused to clear the streets and the situation escalated into a full-scale riot and a State of Emergency that pitted protesters against the Seattle Police Department and the National Guard.

This is the ZCWO 1/6 scale United States Riot Policeman "Shawn" 12-inch figure which has been released recently, along with the ZCWO 1/6 scale United States Riot Police "Mason" action figure (You can check out the preview pictures of "Mason" HERE). There haven't been that many Riot Police 12-inch figures released. The attention has always been on the Police S.W.A.T. teams (see my post HERE of the 1/6 scale S.W.A.T. figures I have collected over the years). I only have the Dragon Models Limited (DML) 1/6 scale Royal Hong Kong Police Police Tactical Unit 12-inch figure that was released in 2002 - posted HERE so it's nice to see a variation from the norm for Police Officer figures.

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures. Click on them for bigger and better views. Being a rather new subject matter, I took quite a lot of photos and in this first-part review alone, there are 32 pictures posted in this entry.

Revealed! Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant Darth Vader 10-inch Action Figure

Square Enix has officially revealed their Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant Darth Vader Figure. Square Enix has re-designed quite a number of DC superheroes before this, giving the popular characters a variant Japanese angle / twist and it looks like they’ve given Darth Vader a bit of a re-design as well with some futuristic Japanese anime / manga armor. Surprisingly, unlike what they did with the DC characters which I didn't like, I have to say I really am liking the new look they have given the Sith Lord. Darth Vader looks pretty darn cool.

Bandai had previewed their Star Wars Movie Realization Samuraidaishou Darth Vader 18 cm action figure earlier (see my toy blog post HERE) and I think this Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant Darth Vader 10-inch Action Figure will make a nice companion piece to that :)

The re-designed and re-imagined Darth Vader looks more muscular than previous versions of the character with his armor now becoming more streamlined in the process, making it look more like a protective, battle armor than a life support system. His helmet has also been altered slightly (see the close-up picture below) but it still retains its shape and overall look that's synonymous with Vader. Some of the armor’s original features are retined, like the box on his chest and his belt.

2014 Christmas Presents: Green Lantern x 2, Star Wars Vans, Call of Duty, Adidas & Astronaut

These were the presents I got for Christmas from family and friends :) It's more blessed to give than to receive but I certainly don't mind receiving too haha Sometimes you get gifts that you immediately think of re-gifting right away but gifts from family and friends are usually more thought out and given with you in mind. Besides the wonderful Christmas dinner with the people closest to you, the exchanging of gifts and the look of surprise and excitement on their faces are all part of the joy of Christmas. I certainly had my fair share of Christmas joy!

So what did I get? I got the Mattel Exclusive Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Guy Gardner Green Lantern and Sinestro (the Green Lanterns' most famous villain) 8-inch action figures, Vans Star Wars SK8-Hi shoes with bonus Star Wars Stormtrooper scarf, Mega Bloks Call of Duty Dome Battleground Collector Construction Set, Adidas climachill T-shirt and USB powered Astronaut LED light.

Incoming: Very Hot 1/6 scale United States Navy VFA-154 Black Knights 12-inch pilot action figure

continued from previous post...

The first 12-inch fighter pilot figure Hot Toys (HT) ever released in 2000 was the 1/6th scale F-14 Tomcat aviator / pilot action figure "Jack Carter" who was a dead ringer for a 1:6 scale Tom Cruise as LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell from the 1986 movie "Top Gun". Check out my post HERE. The second pilot figure Hot Toys released was a 12-inch F-18 Hornet Pilot "Alan J Nance" who looked a lot like Will Smith as CPT Steven Hiller in the 1996 movie "Independence Day" or ID4.

Now Very Hot Toys (VHT) has released preview pictures of their soon-to-be-released 1:6 scale U.S. Navy aviator / pilot figures and the first shown earlier HERE seems to be a 12-inch Tom Cruise look-alike. The second figure looks a lot like a 1:6 scale Will Smith in pilot uniform. VHT is following HT to a T, even releasing figures with the same likeness in the same order LOL You would think the owner of VHT has a thing for Howard Chan of Hot Toys and wants to show his admiration and affection in a way that Howard would understand hahaha

Most likely these two sets (this Black Knights piece and the earlier Black Aces pilot figure) will follow the trend of previously announced sets which means that they will be available with two options: as a fully boxed figure and a gear / uniform only set. Let's hope the price remains reasonable.

Strike Fighter Squadron 154 (VFA-154), also known as the "Black Knights", is a United States Navy strike fighter squadron stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoore. The Black Knights are an operational fleet squadron flying the F/A-18F Super Hornet. They are currently attached to Carrier Air Wing Eleven and deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68). Their tailcode is NH and their callsign is "Knight".

Preview Very Hot 1/6 scale United States Navy VFA-41 Black Aces 12-inch pilot action figure

Very Hot Toys aka VHT has a unique way of going about their business which is different from other 1:6 manufacturers. VHT do not follow the trends set by by other 1:6 manufacturers in producing and releasing new products but instead, they prefer to release similar offerings based on what other 1:6 companies have offered in the past, specifically Hot Toys (HT) in their earlier days as a military figure company.

From the very beginning when VHT started releasing figures, they have followed closely along Hot Toys' footsteps albeit a few steps behind. The first figures VHT released were the 1/6 scale HK SDU (Hong Kong Special Duties Unit) which Hot Toys had released earlier. They were almost identical in every way in terms of the figure's outfit and accessories except perhaps in the area of quality. VHT's quality at the very beginning were shoddy and far from ideal. But they persevered and amazingly, they are still around today and have released quite a number of outfits and uniform sets over the years. Quality is still an issue with some hits and misses but their customer base seems to be growing steadily over the years as well.

These two new 12-inch fighter pilot figure sets being offered (see this post and the NEXT) resemble the ones previously released by Hot Toys some years back when Hot Toys was producing and releasing 1:6 scale military figures. VHT has recently gone into releasing figures with the outfits / uniforms (they had only  released uniform sets in the past)  and these two sets will most likely follow the trend of the previously announced sets where they will be available as a fully boxed figure and a gear / uniform only set.

What I find most intriguing is that not only does VHT's first two 12-inch pilot action figures have 1:6 scale head sculpts that bear strong resemblances to famous Hollywood actors who have played the role of fighter pilots in their career, VHT is following HT's footsteps exactly as HT had also released their first two pilot figures based on these same two actors. Hot Toys released their 1:6 scale F-14 Tomcat pilot figure (also their very first pilot / movie figure) "Jack Carter" - see my post HERE - alongside 12-inch F-18 Hornet Pilot (Will Smith as CPT Steven Hiller in the 1996 movie "Independence Day" or ID4") "Alan J Nance" in the year 2000. That's 14 years ago now! Wow, that's a long time back.

Merry Christmas :) My 2nd December 2014 haul: Wolfpack Clone, Parker threads & Speed Rider

Merry Christmas everyone :)

These are Christmas presents I got for myself LOL It's not a lot but I still find joy in these little things. This is my second haul for December 2014 (check out my first December haul HERE). I still haven't lost my passion for them so I'll just keep on going and going and going, like the Energizer rabbit. So what's the haul this time? There's the Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 104th Battalion 1/6th scale Wolfpack Clone Trooper 12-inch Figure (first previewed HERE), POP TOYS 1/6th scale Style Series X15 Super Juvenile Hero Windbreaker and Schoolbag Suit (for a certain Peter Parker - previewed earlier HERE) and Belet 1/6th scale Speed Rider Outfit and Head Sculpt Set which is very much based on Fast and the Furious Dom Toretto character, portrayed by Vin Diesel in all the films - also previewed HERE.

All three items here cost less than one Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series figure which is why I'm buying less Hot Toys these days and putting my money elsewhere instead. Hot Toys certainly has the quality going for it but their prices just keep going up and up which is ironic since their customer base has grown by leaps and bounds and that means they are definitely making money because of the increased demand and orders. Yet they just keep raising the price with each new release. As for me, I'm happy with my purchases and still enjoying the journey. I haven't seen the end of the road yet as far as toy collecting is concerned.

It's the Knight before Christmas - The Dark Knight of the Future: DC Direct Batman Beyond!

This was from my STGCC 2014 haul which I posted in September - see my toy blog post HERE

Since today - December 24 - is Christmas Eve and therefore, the night before Christmas, I thought I'll post something relevant which is, a Knight before Christmas. Everybody knows Batman is also referred to as The Dark Knight and Batman Beyond / Batman of the Future is no exception although with his looks, he could very well be the Nightmare before Christmas as well. Either way, an appropriate subject matter.

Batman Beyond (also known as Batman of the Future) is an American animated television series created by Warner Bros. Animation in collaboration with DC Comics as a continuation of the Batman legacy. Depicting teenager Terry McGinnis as a new Batman in a futuristic Gotham City under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne, the series began airing on January 10, 1999, and ended its run on December 18, 2001 after 52 episodes spanning three seasons and one direct-to-video film.

At 1/6 scale, this 2010 released DC Direct Batman Beyond 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector figure stands 13 inches tall and features a cloth costume that accurately reproduces the character's look from the animated Batman Beyond series. It comes with glider wings that measure 14 inches across. I was intrigued by how the toy designers interpreted the future Batman's look, a little unconventional and very different from the rest of the other Batman characters. Haters gonna hate but somehow I found him appealing in a creepy "frankenstein" kind of way!

So far I've only had the much smaller scale Batman Beyond action figures released by Mattel Toys (see my toy post HERE) so this is a welcome change as this makes it the 1:6 scale version of Terry McGinnis Batman of the Future.

The Must-Have Toys of the past 25 Years

With less than a week until Christmas, you can be assured that the malls will be packed with procrastinating parents searching for that must-have toy for their kids. Will they grab the last Snow Glo Elsa before she’s officially Ebay only? If this graphic of the past 25 years of must-have toys tells us anything, it’s that instant popularity doesn’t always dictate long-term fandom. While some still pine for TMNT and Pokemon collectables, toys like Easy Bake Oven and Talkboy are probably best left in the past. Created by personalized gifting company Personal Creations—did you make a wish to Santa for any of these childhood toys?

These included raids or invasions of the Kara-Khitan Khanate, Caucasus, Khwarezmid Empire, Western Xia and Jin dynasties. By the end of his life, the Mongol Empire occupied a substantial portion of Central Asia and China.

Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure Review II

continued from previous post...

Having reviewed the box and contents plus the first outfit which comes with the Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure aka 12-inch Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in "Mission: Impossible III" in my first part review, here's a look at the figure wearing the Grey Military Jacket which also comes with this boxed figure set. He also has a belt and drop down holster for his pistol. In his hands he has the 1/6 scale Heckler & Koch G36K assault rifle.

Brother Production certainly did a GREAT job with the 1/6 scale "Mission Important" head sculpt. There's no denying that the head sculpt bears a great resemblance to actor and action star Tom Cruise who has played the Ethan Hunt role four times already, with a fifth Mission Impossible film in the works. This could be the best 1:6 scale Tom Cruise head sculpt to date. But I just don't recall seeing Tom Cruise wearing this particular outfit in the films. Even a google search turned out negative. There just don't seem to be any pictures or screen grabs of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) wearing the Grey Military Jacket. Still, the figure looks bada$$ and I like the look.

Review 1: Brother Production Present 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made Figure

This is the recently released Brother Production Present 1:6 scale Custom Hand Made "Mission Important" 12-inch Figure. It was part of my December 2014 haul (posted earlier HERE)

Mission: Impossible III is the third installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. Tom Cruise returns as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, who is forced by an arms dealer to steal a mysterious technology known only as "The Rabbit's Foot" in exchange for his kidnapped wife. The 2006 sequel marked the feature film directorial debut of J.J. Abrams (Lost) and co-stars Maggie Q, Ving Rhames, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

It looks like the "Mission: Impossible III" film was the inspiration for Brother Production Presents 1:6 scale "Mission Important" Custom Hand Made 12-inch Action Figure. Ethan Matthew Hunt is a senior field operations agent for the IMF (Impossible Missions Force), an elite, top-secret espionage and covert operations agency that handles dangerous and highly sensitive international missions that have been deemed "impossible". He is portrayed by Tom Cruise in all four films that have been released thus far.

This is not the first Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt figure to be released by Brother Production. They had earlier released the Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure which is very much based on Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in "MI4: Ghost Protocol". Sixthvision 1/6th scale God Complex: Tsukuyomi by Glitch Network looks pretty awesome too!

God Complex: Tsukuyomi is one of the Three Great Rulers of Nippon. “Silence of the Night” is a title the humans gave him since he only appears during a stormless sundown. Being a quiet and reserved character, little is known about him. His mystery gave birth to legends and rumors. Ancient humans believed that the traditional blade he is carrying was so sharp that he used it to cut up the moon, and at every quiet night, he would slice it little by little to appease the wrath of the ocean until one day a new moon replaces the old one. Another legend said the moon was the eye of an enormous demon where misfortunes came from, and Tsukuyomi is the guardian of the night to protect humans from them.

It seems Foxbox Studio is no longer continuing the God Complex 12-inch figure series they started. See my last review of the 2014 Thailand Toy Expo FoxBox Studio exclusive Black Hermes Psychoprompus HERE and HERE. Check out the group pictures of Foxbox Studio 1/6 scale God Complex 12-inch Hermes, Hades, Inari figures posted HERE.

This latest figure from the God Complex line looks more insect-like as compared to the fox looking Inari figure. First impression I get of the head sculpt is that of a grasshopper which brings to mind the Japanese TV series "Kamen Riders" or "Masked Riders" which I watched as a kid -  check out my posts of the Kamen Riders HERE, HERE and HERE.

Review of the Funko POP! Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Dancing Groot Bobble Action Figure

From my December 2014 haul (see my earlier post HERE): this is the Funko POP! Marvel "Guardians of the Galaxy" Dancing Groot Vinyl Bobble-head Action Figure. Funko POP! Marvel "Guardians of the Galaxy" Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax and Gamera figures were all planned together and released as a set earlier, hence the running numbers from 47 to 52. Dancing Groot seems to have been an afterthought (hence number 65) due to the overwhelming consumer demand upon the release of the film at the theaters with almost everyone falling in love with the dancing baby Groot in a scene grooving to the retro 70s music. What's there not to love, he's just too cute! It seems Funko POP! has timed Dancing Groot's release in time for Christmas :)

Groot first appeared in Tales to Astonish #13 (Nov. 1960), and was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Dick Ayers. An extraterrestrial, sentient tree-like creature, Groot originally appeared as an invader that intended to capture humans for experimentation. The character was reintroduced as a heroic, noble being in 2006, and appeared in the crossover comic book storyline "Annihilation: Conquest". Groot went on to star in its spin-off series, Guardians of the Galaxy, joining the team of the same name.
