Ultraman Ace by Medicom

Ultraman Ace is the 5th show in the Ultra Series, after Ultraman, Zoffy, Ultra Seven and Ultraman Jack. For me, the Ultra series was one of two of the greatest tokusatsu(live action films with special effects), the other being the Kamen Rider series. I am only familiar with the Ultra brothers of the Showa era (describing the reign of Emperor Hirohito from 25 December 1926 to 7 January 1989). There hasn't been that many 12" costumed figures of Ultraman Ace released so I was pretty pleased when Medicom announced their release of Ultraman Ace.

Ultraman Ace's head fin has a great big hole in it and a Beam Lamp up front. Other than Ultraseven's detachable fin, Ace's is probably the most useful fin. The Beam Lamp can fire his Punch Laser and the hole is a place where energy can be gathered, stored or released (it is the nexus for his most powerful weapon, the Space Q). It is also where he emits Ultra Signs into the sky to communicate with other Ultramen.

Not too sure why Ultraman Ace has "ribs" on his back - a little strange even though the Ultramen were aliens from The Land of Light, Nebula M78

A view from the ground up as Ultraman Ace was supposed to be 40 meters high

  1. Hey Alex, this piece is worth buying! The paint work and joining lines of the suit is totally different from Type C. As for Type C, it's a waste of money..Damn it!!

  2. hi desmond, read on your blog about the horrific non-existent QC with your Type C. Feel your pain man. Ace is OK but notice the neck portion looks funny and doesn't seem right. also afraid to pose extreme poses after seeing what happened to yours. quite happy becoz i always wanted Ace & he's done nicely.

  3. Yes, the neck portion looks a bit weird. I think the suit is a bit wider at that area and partly also due to the helmet connection there. Overall, this is fine..

  4. wow! amazing toys man! btw read that you were having trouble with the humidity - have you thought of storing your collection with moisture absorbing crystals? they might need replacing every so often but if your cabinets are the sealed kind maybe not so often

  5. hi mel thanks :) i thot about the crystals before and realized that i would need a LOT of them - lol!! anyway, the humidity affects just one particular type of figures and i decided to go slow on them. thanks for looking ;p

  6. Hi Desmond, to answer your question on why Ultraman Ace has "rib" on the back, actually it was where the Ultraman stored the batteries in their suites when filming the series - the batteries for the lighted eyes, time signal, etc. Actually, if you check more carefully, all Ultramen had some kind of battery storage area at various parts of the body. For example, Taro had them on the body side (under the arm pit), and Ultraman C-type had them in, you know where, inside their boobs! Just for your information.
