Playmobil 4479 Deep Sea Diver

One of life's simple pleasures - not expensive too :) Got this Playmobil 4479 Underwater Expedition Deep Sea Diver today.

Made in Malta. WOW! A toy that's not made in China. Pardon my ignorance.

Malta is an island nation that comprises an archipelago of seven islands situated in the Southern European areas of the Mediterranean sea, 93 km off the coast of Sicily (Italy), 288 km east of Tunisia and 300 km north of Libya. The islands enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Malta is known for its world heritage sites, most prominently the Megalithic Temples which are the oldest free-standing structures on Earth. According to the Acts of the Apostles, St Paul was shipwrecked on the island. Malta is also considered a potential location for the mythical lost island of Atlantis. [source: wiki]

Comes with basic figure. Check out the new hairstyle! Even his shoes have "laces" now.

Deep Sea Diver gear laid out

Partially suited up

Playmobil's deep sea diver all suited up for some deep sea mission. He's wearing the JIM suit (named after Jim Jarrett, Peress' chief diver. Joseph Salim Peress is the inventor of one of the first truly usable atmospheric diving suits). The JIM suit is probably the most well-known atmospheric diving suit (ADS), designed to maintain an interior pressure of one atmosphere despite exterior pressures and eliminates the majority of physiological dangers associated with deep diving.

Comes with lights for seeing in the dark of the deep blue sea

And propellers on both sides for steering the heavy suit underwater

He has his working tool for deep sea salvage work

And undersea environment with crab and starfish

Gonna put him together with the other Playmobil Deep Sea Diver (link here)

  4. A little nit-pick: the Playmobil suit is modelled after the Newt Suit. That said, Newt was directly inspired by JIM.
