"Wanted: Dead or Alive" was an American Western set in the frontier of the 1890’s when it was common for bounty hunters to make a living from the rewards offered for capturing wanted criminals. Mr Cool himself, Steve McQueen played Josh Randall, a bounty hunter with a relatively soft heart who would often donate his earnings to the needy and help his prisoners if they had been wrongly accused. Randall carried a shortened Winchester 1892 Model carbine, called the "Mare's Leg" or "Mare's Laig", in a holster patterned after "gunslinger" rigs that were popular in movies and television then. While the guns were chambered for the .44-40 round, McQueen wore more impressive looking .45-70 rounds in the loops of his gun belt.

A closer look at the head sculpt with the likeness of Terrence Steven "Steve" McQueen (March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980), an American movie actor nicknamed "The King of Cool". He was one of the top box-office draws of the 1960s and 1970s. His popular films include The Sand Pebbles, The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Bullitt, The Getaway, Papillon, and The Towering Inferno. In 1974 he became the highest paid movie star in the world. [source: wiki]

One of the famous poses of Steve McQueen as Josh Randall in "Wanted: Dead or Alive". Randall's holster held a sawed-off Winchester rifle nicknamed the "Mare's Leg" instead of the standard six-gun carried by the typical Western character. This added to the anti-hero image infused with a mixture of mystery and detachment that made this show stand out from the typical TV Western. The show was so popular it ran for three seasons from 1958 until early 1961 and had 94 episodes.
And here he is, all ready for some pumping action!

His catch phrase in almost every episode was "Let's Go!" which he spoke softly and sounded more like "les goo".

Although I don't know who is this cowboy guy, Triad Toys has done a really good job on this figure. Great head sculpt and well detailed accessories. I like the outfit and should say I like everything from this figure as I saw it at China Square Central during my lunch yesterday. A good piece with reasonable pricing..If you can put him to sit on a DML horse. They look perfect!!

Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteThats one mean looking gun...
Keep up with the reviews.
Cheers
HA HA desmond, not your time lah XD i grew up watching all these westerns and Steve McQueen was BIG in his time. Agree with you about the pricing - getting tired of the HIGH prices of Hot Toys and Medicom when other companies can give us reasonably priced products :)
ReplyDeleteAL, it's not too late - the Mare's Laig is very NICELY done, together with the metal bullets.
thanks, ANON - keep on reading ;>
Nice, except Josh Randall's shirt was a solid blue color and his pants were a light tan color, not denim.
ReplyDeletethanks :) because this is an un-licensed and un-official product, i guess the manufacturer took some liberties with the outfit, hence the lack of accuracy CHEERS
