Meet the new Spidey!

Just when I was thinking who would name their child Garfield (I was writing on Firefly and found out his given name was Garfield Lynns - see previous post) other than their cat, it was announced in the newspaper today that Andrew GARFIELD is the New Spiderman!

Sony Pictures has cast British actor Andrew Garfield, 26, to star as the young ‘Spider-Man’. Garfield was among the final list of contenders along with Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman, Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Michael Angarano, and Josh Hutcherson, who was rumored to have had the part already in the bag. Shooting begins in early December and the studio will release the film in 3D on July 3, 2012.

As Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield will be taking over the reigns from Tobey Maguire, whose role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Spider-Man films grossed nearly $2.5 billion worldwide.

Initially, people were just as surprised when Tobey Maguire got the part but Maguire has since shot to superstardom as the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and his performance as Spider-Man had earned him some glowing reviews.

You are looking at pictures of Medicom Toy's 1:6 scale Tobey Maguire and Spider-Man figures. In this instance, Medicom's smaller scale bodies actually work for Tobey and Spidey as they look to be of the right height when placed next to Hot Toys Batman and Superman since Peter Parker and Spiderman was never meant to be big and bulky.

Close-up of the Medicom Toy 1:6 scale Spider-Man in his original red and blue costume. I just love the embossed lines and tiny "scales" embedded into the costume so that it isn't just a flat tint of red and blue like in the comics.

Let's hope the reboot to be directed by Marc Webb with Andrew Garfield will continue to make Spider-Man a money spinner so that more 1:6 incarnations will be produced and released.

  1. The Medicom Spiderman is still the best 12inch spidey figure I have ever seen so far :)
