First and foremost, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone and may 2011 be an even better year for all :) Remember to have FUN with your toys and enjoy LIFE. Now on with the show...
After previewing Hot Toys upcoming Iron Man Mark V collectible figure in the previous post, I was blessed to get my hands on the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS123 Iron Man 2 1/6th scale Mark IV Limited Edition Collectible Figurine before the year ended (didn't expect it at all but it fell into my lap) so that I can share these pictures with all of you.
The Mark IV armor is the first shown armor in the second film, meaning that it was built during the six months in-between the first and second films. The suit has a brighter color scheme, a differently-colored HUD, a generally more angular design, is more form-fitting, and aerodynamic than the Mark III armor. Although its full arsenal and fighting potential is not explored in the movie, the Mark IV appeared to be a match in hand-to-hand combat with the Rhodes-operated-Mark II armor though Stark's inebriation compared to Rhodes's sobriety may have been a factor. The Hot Toys Iron Man 2: Mark IV 1/6 Figure packaging is pretty straightforward, as it was with the rest in the series. Color printing on glossy metallic card for the slipcase cover which is quite impossible to take an accurate picture of but you get the idea. Personally I much prefer the innovative packaging Hot Toys did for the first Iron Man series.
Upon sliding off the slipcase cover, you get a window box with the Hot Toys Iron Man Mark IV armor and accessories displayed in its tray for all to see
The top tray (there are three trays in all) has most of everything the Mark IV needs to be operational: the air flaps are located in the top left corner. There's the alternate head with authentic likeness of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, shades and collar, donut and box plus three pairs of extra hands - One (1) pair of open palms with light-up repulsors (white light, battery operated) + One (1) pair of relaxed palms with light-up repulsors (white light, battery operated) + One (1) pair of hands with articulated fingers and joints (much like the one that came with Hot Toys War Machine) which was not mentioned in the preview / pre-order list - a bonus :)
The second tray holds an acrylic hollow stick for giving the Mark IV the illusion of flying and Iron Man's forearm rockets.

The last tray or base holds the customary oval-shaped figure stand with Mark IV nameplate and movie logo, AND an additional square-shaped figure stand with LED light-up function (white light, battery operated). In the film, this is the base that the Mark IV is shown on standing on in display within Stark's workshop along with other prototypes when Stark isn't using the armor. The pliers looking thingy is what you clip to the Mark IV to give it the illusion of flight when attached to the acrylic pole and inserted into the light-up base.
Let's not forget the all important Instruction Sheet with lots of instructions for the many features that are included with the Hot Toys Iron Man 2: Mark IV 1/6 scale limited edition collectible figurine. Click on the picture for a bigger and better view. You'll want to read this carefully before attempting to do anything with your Iron Man Mark IV figure.
Here are the Hot Toys Iron Man Mark IV spare hands. The 1/6 figure comes with the clenched fist hands on it. With the pair of hands with movable fingers that have individual articulation for each joint and light-up repulsors (the pair in front), you really don't need any extra hand because it can do everything the other hands are meant to do and more.
And now I present to you the Hot Toys Iron Man 2: Mark IV 1/6 scale limited edition collectible figure! Interestingly, the Hot Toys Iron Man 2: Mark IV armor comes with a little "worn" look i.e. there are some parts of the armor where the paint appears to have come off or chipped off, to give the impression that this is not an entirely new armor.

In this picture, the deployable articulated air flaps have been added to the back of the Mark IV armor (the basic figure comes without it when first taken out of the box) and it falls nicely in place when not deployed.
Here's the Hot Toys Iron Man 2: Mark IV 1/6 Figure with LED light-up eyes and palm repulsors. Batteries are included for these and the light switches are pretty well hidden. They are almost seamless with the armor design and doesn't protrude or stand out. Check the Instruction Sheet for the location of the switches and changing of the batteries when they run out of power.
The Hot Toys Iron Man Mark IV LED light-up Micro ARC reactor on chest (white light, battery operated) is very bright and blinds you when you look directly into it.
Here's a pictures of the Micro ARC reactor with the lights switched off so that you can get a better look at it. Once again, Hot Toys doesn't disappoint when it comes to the design of their movie-related merchandise / figures. They are truly and accurately realized in 1/6 scale and the details that Hot Toys are able to capture and replicate makes this a work of ART!

ReplyDeleteSlightly disappointed they chose to do the 'worn' look on the armor. A super fine ferrari red paint job woulda been really nice. I almost had to double check it wasnt just my figure with paint chips.
ReplyDeletethat thing is nothing short of AMAZING- it IS truly a work of art!
