"Edge of Darkness" is a 2010 film adaptation of the 1985 BBC television series of the same name. The film stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone, and is directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Michael Wearing, who also directed and produced the series respectively. This film is Mel Gibson's first screen lead since "Signs" which was released eight years earlier in 2002.
"Edge of Darkness" follows a detective (Gibson) investigating the murder of his activist daughter (Bojana Novakovic), while uncovering political conspiracies and cover-ups in the process.
And from Wild Work comes this 1/6 scale Darkness Cop 12-inch poseable action figure bearing no resemblance to Mel Gibson whatsoever. It's quite amazing that in this day and age when sculptors can be so good at capturing an actor or famous person's likeness that Wild Work can fail so badly at trying to replicate Mel Gibson's face. Oh well, easy pass then.
The set comes with Real-like Headsculpt (but not Mel), Grey Suit (with Belt), Blue Shirt, Leather Shoes, Overcoat, GLOCK 17 Pistol with Leather Holster, Spare Pistol Magazine with Leather Holster and Police Badge with holder

This looks dreadful and awful as a 1/6. It looks like a cross-eyed version of clive owen who went on a meth binge.
ReplyDeletejust wanting to let the good people know what's out there and what NOT to get haha
ReplyDeleteMaybe wild Works didn't have the license to produce a likeness of Mel Gibson just like Hot Toys before with their terminator/predator line. I dunno, just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYour heads up is always appreciated @lex Gen. I just wish there were more companies that took this art form more seriously. It's amazing that Wild Works spent so much for the licensing, but paid so little for a decent sculptor. Blitzway's soon-coming Scarface release shows that you can rival titans like Ashley Wood's ThreeA and Hot Toys. FoxBox also looks quite promising in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe accessories and suit don't look bad. Don't see Mel Gibson in there...which could be a good thing. I too appreciate your giving a heads up on everything that comes down the line...even the junk.
ReplyDeleteI think the sculptor deliberately tried not to get the head to look like Gibson. I mean, a sculptor who can do that level of fine detail would surely be able to get some modicum of resemblance in there if the intent was to actually recreate the actor's features. You can't really see the likeness in there... to be honest, it looks more like David Arquette than Mel Gibson.
ReplyDeletethanks guys for the support :) I really appreciate it. I saw Christian Slater in the first picture. It doesn't help that he's a little cross-eyed. My gripe is: Why call this a DARKNESS cop figure with obvious reference to the movie and not have a head resembling the actor who played that role?
ReplyDeletenever send a figure out cross-eyed! it's just not right, just not right! lol!
ReplyDeletei believe edge of darkness was a TV series first so i think the likeness is probably based off of the original actor.
ReplyDeletei'm afraid i don't see the likeness to Ronald Craven (played by Bob Peck) from the BBC series either :(
