Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 Commander Cody 12-inch Figure REVIEW 1

Commander Cody was part of an advanced training program of clone commanders led by the ARC trooper identified as Alpha. Unlike standard Kaminoan educational protocols, this training regimen did not de-emphasize individuality and outside-the-manual thinking. Cody's tour of duty included campaigns on Rendili, Koorivar, Cato Neimoidia, Maramere and Boz Pity. He led the 212th Attack Battalion and was comfortable both leading large units and commanding small attack teams. Often, Cody would employ a rocket pack, leading his elite units through individual aerial maneuvers.

Clone Commander Cody, also known as unit 2224, was a loyal clone trooper serving the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Cody was often under the command of General Obi-Wan Kenobi, and served with him and Anakin Skywalker during a nearly disastrous campaign on Cato Neimoidia.

This is Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1:6 scale Commander Cody 12-inch Figure from the 212th Attack Battalion. Strangely enough, there's also a Hot Toys logo on the box packaging. I wonder what part Hot Toys played in the making of this figure.

The box packaging for all Sideshow Star Wars figures have become pretty standard. If the design works, why change it, right? The box is sturdy and is held together by magnets hidden inside the flaps and opens easily when required, no fuss, no hassle. The figure and accessories all fit nicely inside the plastic trays and there are no frustrating twist ties to contend with either. Everything is easily removable and can be put back into the box with ease.

The accessories tray with a lot of extra interchangeable hands for Commander Cody as well as the weapons he uses in the Clone Wars, fighting for the Galactic Republic. As Sideshow Collectibles puts it: Generous assortment of switch-out hands, Switch-out hand with Order 66 Hologram, extra pair of switch-out feet (for action poses), Blaster Carbine, Blaster Rifle and two blaster pistols

Let's take a closer look at the hands, shall we? First, there are the saluting hands or karate chopping hands (I didn't know they taught Karate in Clone Trooper School) and fist hands (fancy that! they taught them how to box too haha)

These are grasping hands or choking hands (see how they can be used to choke somebody? that's when karate hands and fists don't work) as well as finger pointing / eye poking hands.

Let's not forget the thumbs up hands; also used for hitchhiking through the galaxy after reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". And then there are the scratching nose hand (also may be used for holding onto weapons, after cleaning off the booger from digging nose) and "peace" hand, GREAT for picture taking poses with friends and family. Also may be used to show "V" for victory after killing off all the nasty Separatists forces.

Check out the extra pair of feet / boots / shoes that are meant for action poses. Also might be able to be used for doing the trademark Michael Jackson Billy Jean pose.

I've seen the BlasTech DC-15A Blaster Carbine and BlasTech DC-15 Blaster Rifle before but this is the first time I've seen these DC-17 blaster pistols. Pretty straightforward and simple, nothing to write home about.

And in the main tray, we have Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Commander Cody 12-inch Figure with Commander Cody portrait and two switch-out helmets (as seen in Star Wars Episode II and Episode III). The Commander Cody 12 inch Figure features a fully articulated male body (armored body) with 30+ points of articulation, black fabric bodysuit with additional fabric collar and detailed Clone Trooper armor.

The Sideshow Commander Cody figure comes with his Phase I helmet. The Phase I helmet was first seen in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" when Obi-Wan Kenobi discovers that an army of clone troopers is being secretly produced for the Republic.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I don't like this particular helmet design. The helmet appears too longish and makes the whole face look elongated with an ugly protruding chin. The helmet looks a lot like an overturned bucket with slits cut at the side for his eyes and nose.

If this Sideshow Commander Cody figure only came with this helmet, it would have been a no sale for me.

Thankfully, Sideshow wised up and included the Phase II helmet as well. So it's OFF with this head / helmet!

Here are some pictures of Sideshow Collectibles Commander Cody with the Commander Cody portrait / head sculpt. Like all the clone commanders, Cody was voiced by Temuera Morrison (who was also Jango Fett). As one of the clone officers seen without a helmet, Morrison also physically played the role, though only footage of his head was used to portray Cody. On set, Morrison wore a blue bodysuit and held an old stormtrooper helmet in his hands to approximate the digital clone helmet he would be wearing.

Close-up pictures of Sideshow Commander Cody portrait / head sculpt. Does it resemble the New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison? We'll be seeing more of him as Morrison will portray Abin Sur in the upcoming 2011 superhero film "Green Lantern" which opens today.

CC-2224 began his life as one of countless cloned officers slated for a leadership position in the Grand Army of the Republic. As leader of the 7th Sky Corps, CC-2224 was to be paired with a Jedi General. He was pleased to discover that he would be operating under the command of famed Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, he did not participate in the first Battle of Geonosis.

Several months into the Clone Wars, CC-2224 was temporarily pulled from the fighting in order to be entered into an experimental training regiment, headed by ARC trooper Alpha-17, designed to provoke independent thought among the enrolled commanders. As a sign of his new-found independent streak, 2224 took the name "Cody," and began customizing his armor with equipment previously available only to the ARCs. Cody's armor modifications included a small, bullet-shaped jetpack, a secondary comm antenna, a visor on his helmet, a pair of antennae on his helmet, enlarged shoulder pads, and a small stick-like tool in an armband on his upper right arm.

  1. I absolutely love this figure, although he was a sod to get hold of :)

The options on him alone are well worth it.

  2. Hey Alex, any tips on putting on the head? Haha I am still clueless as to how to put on the Morrison headsculpt for my CPT Rex.

  3. Hi Zi Yi, you have to ease the head in after pulling the helmet off. Perhaps a hair dryer to first heat up and soften the rubber head - that might help. CHEERS
