"The Punisher" is a 2004 American comic book action film, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, starring Thomas Jane as the antihero Frank Castle / The Punisher and John Travolta as the villain Howard Saint, a money launderer who orders the death of Castle's entire family. After his wife and family are killed, Frank Castle takes it upon himself to distribute punishment to those responsible for the vendetta. He is determined to avenge the murder of his family.
This is going to be Art Figures next 12-inch movie-related figure: a 1/6 scale Avenger based on Thomas Jane as Frank Castle / The Punisher from 2004 "Punisher" movie. The likeness is a little off but it's quite close to a 1/6 Thomas Jane but the outfit (especially the signature skull that is the Punsiher's trademark) and weapons look promising. Let's hope they improve on the head sculpt before its release.
This 1/6 scale Thomas Jane as Frank Castle / Punisher 12-inch figure is quite movie-accurate, from his outfit (including the T-shirt with a skull logo that his son had given him) to the weapons used. Frank Castle is a former Special Forces operator and FBI agent who when his entire family is killed, seeks vengeance on the arms dealer who ordered the hit. Burnt out and taunted by memories of his murdered family, Frank sets out to avenge his family and becomes a judge, jury and executioner known as "The Punisher".
Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) uses a pair of heavily customized M1911A1s as his main sidearms in the film. His father Frank Castle Sr. (Roy Scheider) devoted some dialogue to the guns, commenting on how he bored the chambers, customized the triggers, and added some thread-on compensators. The leg holster is not a Safariland 6004 but a custom Blade-Tech Tactical Thigh Holster.
Also included: an M4A1 carbine fitted with an M203 grenade launcher and an Aimpoint CompM2 red dot sight, and a Mossberg 590 "Compact Cruiser" shotgun. Castle also uses a Emerson Karambit tiger-claw style folding blade with a satin finish.
This will be Art Figures second Punisher 12-inch figure. They blew everyone away with their first 1/6 scale Punisher figure, Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle / The Punisher from the 2008 film "Punisher: War Zone", the third film on the Marvel character with the January 2011 release of Art-Figures: SAVES (see the full review HERE).
Hi Alex,
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing.
When they released the "War Zone" version, I was quite disappointed as I preferred the Thomas Jane version. I didn't get that figure...
But this one smells like BUY all over. The HS could be better but that T-shirt and the twin shoulder holsters are drool factors in their own right.
btw, I was aware that there were 2 movies on the Punisher.. didn't realise there was another one? If so, I'll definitely want to catch it.
Looking forward to pre-ordering this..
Cheers
WL
hey WL
ReplyDeleteI like the War Zone version for what Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle wore. The attire, especially the vest / black body armor with death's head skull and neck protector was badA$$ and he has THREE sidearms :)
This Thomas Jane version is just as cool ;p Art Figures seem to have a knack for producing Punisher figures and that's a bonus of us collectors.
Do note that he doesn't have twin shoulder holsters. Just the one with the other pouch for his pistol magazines.
The very first Punisher movie I watched came out in 1989 and starred Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle. The film changes many details of the comic book origin and the main character does not wear the trademark "skull".
CHEERS
Pretty nice figure over all, few inaccuracies like their WarZone figure but nothing that can't be fixed. The Head Sculpt is the biggest issue for me and if it hasn't been fixed by the release I guess I will have to make a wax casting of it and resculpt it till I see Thomas Jane in it. Certain angles look close but over all it is just off.
ReplyDeleteI saw Thomas Jane at a recent comic con in Anaheim...he's not as big as I expected. LOL! I'm looking forward to this figure as I enjoy the Warzone version as well. The Warzone "Saves" figures is one that plenty collectors missed out on. I'll hit up my buddy AZTECA form Point Blank Toys and see if he is ordering it.
