Hot Toys DX09 Batman: 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Figure PREVIEW

After showing sneak peeks in the last post, Hot Toys has now officially released pictures of their upcoming DX09 Michael Keaton Batman from the 1989 Batman film. On with the pictures :)

Hot Toys is proud to present the DX Batman Collectible Figure featuring the likeness of renowned actor Michael Keaton from the Batman movie in 1989 directed by Tim Burton. This movie-accurate Batman Collectible Figure is highly detailed, highlighting the Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS), sophisticated costume, weapons and accessories.

"Batman" opened on June 23, 1989, grossing $43.6 million in 2,194 theaters during its opening weekend. This broke the opening weekend record, set by Ghostbusters II one week earlier, with $29.4 million. Batman would eventually gross $251.2 million in North America and $160.15 million internationally, totaling $411.35 million. Batman was the first film to earn $100 million in its first ten days of release, and was the highest grossing film based on a DC comic book, until 2008's The Dark Knight. The film is 58th highest ever in North American ranks. Although Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade made the most money worldwide in 1989, Batman was able to beat The Last Crusade in North America, and made a further $150 million in home video sales. Batman was criticized in some quarters for being "too dark". Nonetheless, the film received generally favorable reviews from critics.

Burton biographer Alison McMahan wrote, "fans of the Batman franchise complained when they heard of Michael Keaton's casting. However, no one complained when they saw his performance."

The success of Batman prompted Warner Bros. Animation to create the Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series, as a result beginning the long-running DC Animated Universe. Series co-creator Bruce Timm stated the television show's Art Deco design was inspired from the film. Timm commented, "our show would never have gotten made if it hadn't been for that first Batman movie."

Batman initiated the original Batman film series and helped establish the modern day superhero film genre. Burton joked, "ever since I did Batman, it was like the first dark comic book movie. Now everyone wants to do a dark and serious superhero movie. I guess I'm the one responsible for that trend."

  6. ok guys let's think a little bit into the future for a second. Are any of us giving any thought to the quality of the suit after let's say maybe 5-7 years from now...will it deteriorate at all? I know some of my collectibles (toys) that has rubber style suits do not last all that long. ILOVE this figure don't get me wrong and I am hoping he makes it to my collection....but...will the suit last? it would be a terrible thing to see the suit start to crack after a few years. same with the rubber armed hot toys figures, I wonder if they will last? I'm just curious that's all as well as concerned.

  7. good point about the batsuit deterioating George. rubber suits don't last forever, nor do some leather materials as well. I've had my fair share of ruined suits / costumes / outfits due to the test of time and weather (the elements certainly play a big part in hastening the fallout process) but the thing is, I try to make it as good as it lasts and as long as it lasts. I like the figure too much to not want to get it and I will get it knowing that it might crack up on me but I will be happy with the years I managed to spend with it and having it in my possession. Like they say, "material things don't last forever in this world." We just have the make the best of what we have for as long as we have them and in the end, it'll be good while it lasted. CHEERS

  8. I see your logic in this Alex. I really enjoy them my self although I was hoping the 225.00 U.S. dollar price tag might guarantee it should last longer! LOL! maybe after a few years I'll just dump him in a bucket of Armour All and see if that helps preserve the rubber! (kidding!)sceadant
