Bonus contributions for Hot Toys staff...
ReplyDeleteWhat's your opinion on the Obadiah headsculpt Alex? I think i prefer Soldier Story's version over this one, it has more likeness.
ReplyDeleteI'm very disappointed with the Hot Toys Obadiah Stane headsculpt :( I cannot see Jeff Bridges in there. IMHO the Soldier Story one was spot on. Also, the way they stuck his head in like that - not realistic at all. Looks very fake to me how the head just sticks out. Doesn't look like a man in control of the Iron Monger armor suit; looks more like a man trapped in a man-hole and can't get out.
ReplyDeleteAlex, I fully agree with you. Therefore, I am still considering whether to get it or not. Also the price is a bit expensive :)
ReplyDeleteActually based on movie, this thing is much much bigger. That's why the figure size doesn't look realistic to be placed within. Not proportion between the figure and the machine..
ReplyDeleteI remember we can see Jeff's hands were at the control panel when the armour was opened up..
ReplyDeleteHT & Enterbay are pricing themselves out of the market for me with their increasingly high prices which begin to make me question if they are VALUE-for-money or are we paying for their FAT bonuses!
ReplyDeleteWhat to do?
ReplyDeleteSeems like Hot Toys is the only company with the licence to do 1:6 Iron Man figures.
No competition here... its either you buy or you don't. If you don't but decided to do so later, then must be prepared to pay crazy ebay price for the toys we love.
Quality wise, they are still the company to beat. Price wise, Sideshow Star Wars Figures aren't that cheap too.
As a Fellow Toy Collector, I am also taken aback by the high price... but one thing a Toy Veteran told me make a lot of sense.
'Just Buy what you like most and don't buy everything or 'follow wind'*
*Follow wind is a Chinese term for buying whatever everyone is buying even if you don't like the figure.
I don't earn heaps but I am saving up and buying this Iron Monger. Why? I can only say: 'Because I like it' and its HUGE.
Secondly, I guess its easier for me because I am not going after everything like Mk 4 + Gantry, Batman, Joker , Bat Mobile .... etc
I have a feeling Bat Mobile is not going to be cheap either...
To all fellow Collectors and Toy Lovers. I hope you have a great year collecting the toys you love.
Iron Monger still has a room for improvement. The sad truth is, the room i am talking about is the size of the real Iron Monger. We can expect another version in 2 years time. The Iron Monger figure now should be "good to have" until something better comes out. Let's just hope that HT is not another Ban Dai. Ever wondered how many Master Grade Exia has been released to date?
ReplyDeleteWell said, Ben :) "Buy only what you like" Regarding this Iron Monger figure? I don't like it ;p would have considered if it costs less and was much more correct in proportion but everything about it just don't look right :(
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to pay for quality but this one don't do it for me haha
ENJOY your TOY :) cheers
Yeah, there is always room for improvement for every toy.
ReplyDeleteBut if improvement come at a cost of another say +$500 or +$1000 making Iron Monger even bigger to fit a real 1:6 figure holding on to the control .. then I guess everyone will be even more unhappy about the $1000-1500 pricing.
I doubt they will remake this Iron Monger especially if this piece flop. Fingers crossed*.
But one thing is for sure, there will be many many versions of Iron Man... Who knows what additional arsenal and modification to the existing Iron Man will be added in the next Iron Man / Avenger Movie.
Improvements means market for making New Iron Man.
Just guessing, Stealth Iron Man will probably be next
Jeff Bridges Head wise, just change the head to the one you like... no biggie... but most of the time I guess most people will just display it without opening the hatch ~ while battling Iron Man.
If desired, Just get a DIY body, suit and Jeff Bridges Head and put it next to Iron Monger.
The Best thing about toy collecting is enjoying the toy. Personally, I don't thing a perfect toy exists... at least to me.
Over time.... humidity, wear and tear... you get the idea... when that time comes... I know its time to get a new one (maybe not the exact same one) so I can enjoy the toy all over again
Cheers
I have the exact Obadiah Stane head that I want already :) and IMHO he looks way better than HT's version. Best of all, he's cheap too! http://toyhaven.blogspot.com/2009/12/kitbash-16-jeff-bridges-as-obadiah.html
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the head inside Iron Monger's chest, you begin to wonder how a real person (in the right scale) could fit into the machine? Where is the rest of his body? Is he only just a chest up person without any pelvis or limbs? The figure looks ridiculously out of proportion and wrong from the picture shown. That's why this is a definite non-buy for me >_<
Money better spent on something else more worthwhile haha
I share your sentiment Alex. It is not a proportionate toy if you took into consideration that Jeff operate from inside.
ReplyDeleteExterior Height wise - quite movie accurate already (+/- abit here and there)
However, I am fine with it since all I wanted was a Iron Monger figure.
I wasn't really expecting Iron Monger can be open up and a full 1:6 Jeff can be fitted into Iron Monger. Actually I don't care much if he cannot be opened up at the middle.
Anything extra is a bonus to me. I can use the not so accurate head and DIY another toy.
One must consider that the Iron Monger may be 22~25 inches tall or more for a full 12" Jeff figure to be fitted inside...
Even then you have to take into consideration how a full 1:6 figure will affect the whole Iron Monger's body articulation
Will Iron Monger be able to turn sideways without Jeff Breaking inside? Or will Jeff hinder the Iron Monger's Legs or Hands movement? Will the Iron Body be too big, etc...
Will all that engineering leads to such a high price that only a 'privilege' few can enjoy the toy??
Worse still... If you want movie accuracy, the Iron Monger that fit a full 1:6 Jeff may not be 1:6 anymore... more 1:4 if compared to a 14 inch Iron Man ~ say if Iron Monger that stands at 22-25 inch.
By then, should HT to remake a 18~20inch Iron Man because the 14 inch Iron Man look too short?
More $$$ on 18 inch Iron Man?
So in this sense, One may have to give and take a little. A not so 'perfect'Iron Monger may turn many collectors off... Strangely, to me.... its just beautiful in its own right.
I am just thankful that HT is making Iron Monger.
There is a old saying ... 'something better than nothing...'
Not for the pricing though (>.<)" damn pain for the wallet but still .... it will be one of the 'Must Buy' of 2012 for me.
Happy Toy Collecting Everyone.
I'm glad that you like the figure, Ben :) I'm sure many others will get it as well. Iron Monger has been on so many people's 'WANT' list for so long that I guess "something is indeed better than nothing". Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Most importantly, as you have said it yourself "Happy Collecting!" CHEERS ;p
ReplyDeleteI heard they did a price revision (downwards). May be gd to check with your dealers before committing on the pre-order.
