Judge Dredd 2012

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

There's a new JUDGE in town and it's Karl Urban playing Judge Dredd in 2012. Unlike the previous Judge Dredd movie, Karl Urban has confirmed that the helmet will never come off to keep true to the comic book character.

Here's the official plot synopsis: "Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring Dredd to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip."

Not many pictures of the upcoming film has been revealed and not much revelation of the newly re-designed Judges' outfit / uniform but it does seem that the helmet is much closer to the comics version. It would be most interesting to see how this Dredd turns out, after the disastrous turn by Sylvester Stallone in the 1995 "Judge Dredd" science fiction action film.

Thirteen years after the release of Judge Dredd, Sylvester Stallone discussed his feelings about the movie in an issue of Uncut magazine in 2008: "I loved that property when I read it, because it took a genre that I love, what you could term the 'action morality film' and made it a bit more sophisticated. But I do look back on Judge Dredd as a real missed opportunity. It seemed that lots of fans had a problem with Dredd removing his helmet, because he never does in the comic books. It didn't live up to what it could have been. It probably should have been much more comic, really humorous, and fun. What I learned out of that experience was that we shouldn't have tried to make it Hamlet; it's more Hamlet and Eggs..."

My first Medicom Toy 12-inch figure was this 1/6 scale RAH (Real Action Hero) Sylvester Stallone as Judge Joseph Dredd movie-related figure from the 1995 film. The film may not have been GREAT but seeing a figure of Stallone as Judge Dredd got me really excited as I had just got into toy collecting then.
