I was totally caught off guard by this! Hot Toys will be releasing yet another T-800 collectible figure from their Terminator movie franchise and this time, the T-800 will be a DX figure. The major difference between the DX (DeluXe) figure and the regular MMS (Movie Masterpiece Series) lies in the eyes - the DX has the Hot Toys P.E.R.S (Parallel Eyeball Rolling System) which is a gimmick for making the eyes move and roll around. The FIRST DX figure (DX01) was the Joker from "The Dark Knight" (check out the pictures HERE). Just when you think Hot Toys has exhausted all avenues and can't milk the cash cow any more, they come up with something creative and throw us this figure!
Hot Toys is proud to present the 1/6th scale T-800 collectible figure from the "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" movie from the DX Series. The advanced T-800 collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie, highlighting the newly developed head sculpt with the most updated sculpting technique and with Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS), detachable scalp and cyberdyne chip in the head, advanced muscular body, authentic leather jacket and pants, detailed weapons and accessories.
When Hot Toys released their MMS T2 T-800 12-inch figure (FULL review HERE), most collectors were keen to value-add by adding items that would make the figure more complete, myself included. So I added the COO Model 1/6 scale M79 grenade launcher (pictures HERE) and 7.62mm GE M134 minigun to the original figure to boost it up and I was pretty pleased with the result (see ALL pictures HERE). So this announcement is a bit of a let down for me as there really isn't a lot going for it. Scroll down to see what else this Hot Toys DX10 1/6th scale T2 T-800 12-inch collectible figure comes with.
Hot Toys DX10 "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" 1/6th scale DX T-800 Collectible Figure specially features: Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800 in the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day with the most updated sculpting technique as of 2012, Approximately 32 cm tall, Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) patented by Hot Toys Limited, Detailed hair sculpture, Detachable scalp and cyberdyne chip in the head, Advanced muscular body with over 30 points of articulation with newly sculpted chest and arm, which further stands out the body shape of Arnold in the movie and allows more flexible movement. Four (4) pairs of interchangeable palms including: One (1) pair of gloved open palms, One (1) pair of gloved relaxed palms, One (1) pair of gloved palms for holding gun, One (1) pair of palms for holding gun. Each piece of head sculpt is specially hand-painted
Costume: Black authentic leather jacket and pants with belt, Grey tee, Black boots
Weapons: 1/6 scale M79 grenade launcher with 40mm grenade bandolier, 7.62mm GE M134 minigun, Shotgun, Pistol
Newly developed head sculpt with Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS)
REAL leather jacket
Detachable scalp and cyberdyne chip in the head
Accessories: Sunglasses, Pincer, Scalp piece and chips, Bag for carrying minigun ammunition, LED light-up hexagonal figure stand with T-800 nameplate and the movie logo (white light, battery operated)
At the rate of fire, there's no way one can carry enough ammunition to fire it for more than a couple of seconds and the 7.62mm M134 minigun needs a power source: three truck batteries to be exact. But from a movie perspective, it was super-uber-cool.
The figure display stand doesn't look very DX standard, going by the other stands that have come with the DX series.
Artists: Head Sculpted by Yulli, Body Sculpted by Joseph Tsang T. J. Cha, Head Art Directed by JC. Hong, Head Painted by JC. Hong
Release date: End Q3, 2012
This is a great piece for new entrants into the 1/6 scale collectible market, newbies who just discovered Hot Toys and want to own a T2 T-800 collectible figure but for most of us who already have the Hot Toys T2 T-800 figure (and I have THREE, all different versions: starting with the Hot Toys 1/6 scale 12-inch Movie Masterpiece Battle Damaged T-800 with light-up eyes from 2005 - posted HERE; Hot Toys MMS117 "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" 1/6th scale T-800 cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) collectible figure AND MMS136 T-800 Terminator Figure from the first "Terminator" movie that came out in 1984), this just doesn't justify the price. I'll stick with what I already have, thank you very much :)

Very disappointed to me as well!!
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for the first release, which was basically perfect I'd think this was the pinnacle 1/6 T-800. However good THIS piece is it's a "gimmick release" but I'm happy for the ones foolish enough to pass on the first one. The Ironman license has been WRUNG dry now Terminator? Wheres the Capt. Harlock, MGS and the completely overlooked Wolverine Origin figures like SABORTOOTH or DEADPOOL... I'd even love a X-Men First Class figure or two or three but another T-800, eh..... Money saved for me I guess.
