  1. A little confused by Toy Fair exclusive? Any word if it will be sold at one of the Comic-Cons or available online too?

  2. Hi Bill, Toy Fair Exclusives are sold in limited quantities at higher prices during Toy Fairs / Conventions that Hot Toys has a booth at or the official distributor does. One has to queue to get a ticket that entitles the person to buy the figure which has a higher resale price almost immediately due to the limited numbers made available and the fact that they are only sold in certain countries. Usually some people will queue and buy multiples to sell online later even though each person is only allowed one figure each (they get people to queue for them for the tickets, sometimes even paying a lot of people to queue in their place). Personally I feel that exclusives shouldn't be priced so much higher at the get go. It's an exclusive and limited and that's fine but why should it cost more?

I had posted an article about Hot Toys exclusives and the scalpers who made off with most of the goods at http://toyhaven.blogspot.sg/2011/07/11-scale-scum-and-villian-scalpers-in.html

  3. Ohhhhh. I know exactly what you mean now with these figures. "Exclusive" in that they are overpriced and artificially limited. I went to the NY Comic Con last year and these exclusives were rampant with all the companies. A slight repaint or different box for 50% more than the original. I'm cool with that, it's the companies decision and people bought them, but it's like you wrote most of the people buying them were reselling them on eBay the instant they could.

I missed out on this Joker figure the first time so when I saw it posted again I was pumped that I can finally get it! But at the price of a crappy used car from a scalper on eBay -- no thanks.

  4. Hey Bill, maybe I can help you out here. If I can get you the figure at the Toy Fair price (not inflated) and you pay for shipping, would you be interested? I already have the Bank Robber Joker so when the figure is released in Singapore at the Singapore Toys, Games and Comic Convention and if I can get hold of it, would you be keen? From a fellow collector to another and between us we have a mutual friend as well (Ted Menten). Just a thought.

  6. Which version of Bank Robber is more worth collecting? The MMS79 version or this Toy Fair Exclusive version?

  7. Hi Hooi Chenk
Some hardcore collectors will probably get both for a more complete collection. This is produced and released for those who didn't have the chance to get the first version which was much cheaper and is good enough for me. This latest Toy Fairs exclusive version will be much more expensive and limited in numbers plus one has to queue overnight in order to get it. The mask is molded to the head unlike the first version which came with two head sculpts and removable mask. You have to decide for yourself which one is worth more to you. I am not willing to pay more for this exclusive version since I already have the original older version. Cheers

  8. Thanks for the valuable advice. I also have the original older version.

  9. You are most welcome Hooi Chenk. Obviously the new head sculpt is better because Hot Toys have improved much over the years but I still like my original version headsculpt with the slicked back hair and the removable mask :) The mask allows you to pose The Joker holding the mask while waiting for the van to pick him up in the iconic opening scene.
