Here's a group picture of some of the 12-inch Wolverine figures I have. I wanted to show how different the earlier released 1:6 scale Wolverine head sculpts compare with the latest released version. It's nice to see the improvements made and the sculpting skills of the artists at Hot Toys. In the picture below, there are the two Medicom Toy released 1:6 scale Wolverine action figures right in front - Medicom RAH (Real Action Hero) Marvel Comics Wolverine and X-Men: The Last Stand - Wolverine. These were offered years before any of the Hot Toys Wolverine hit the 12-inch figure scene. Medicom Toy Wolverine (Marvel comics version) even came with an extra snarling Logan head sculpt - you can see the pictures and review posted earlier on my toy blog HERE.
The Wolverine in the center of the picture is actually a kitbashed Wolverine from "X-Men: The Last Stand". I managed to find a 1/6 scale Wolverine head sculpt and a "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine costume / outfit with claw hands separately but on the same day at a flea market for less than USD$100 so I decided to put this figure together. You can check out my earlier post HERE for more pictures. The other two Wolverine 12-inch figures at the back of the picture are Hot Toys Wolverine figures. There were fake "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" being sold on e-bay and Hot Toys cautioned people against buying the fake ones thinking they were original - see my post HERE

The picture below shows the Marvel comics Wolverine 12-inch figure released by Medicom Toy. He was the first character to be released as part of their Marvels series. Captain Action also released a 1/6th scale Wolverine costume set in 2013 which I also reviewed on my toy blog HERE. The uniform set has the signature yellow spandex body suit highlighted with tiger stripes, blue gloves, trunks, shoulder pads and winged-boots with a red belt which is his classic Wolverine costume when he first appeared in the comic books and would serve as the basis for most of Wolverine's future costumes.
Here's a look at the Medicom Toy's Hugh Jackman Wolverine from "X-Men: The Last Stand" - more pictures are posted HERE. Medicom Toys were never very good at sculpting realistic head sculpts and the heads always turn out looking rather comical / anime-like, very different from what Hot Toys can do and has done for the 1/6th scale collectible figure market.
Since Hot Toys entered into the movie merchandise market with their Movie Masterpiece Series, they have upped the ante and brought 1:6 scale sculpting to a whole new level with their very realistic head sculpts which capture the actual actor's likeness amazingly. Check out the sculpts they have done for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the pictures below.
Here's the kitbash "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine (more pics HERE)
And these are Hot Toys 1/6th scale X-Men Origins: Wolverine and latest released "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Wolverine standing side-by-side
Hot Toys MMS103 "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" movie 1/6th scale Wolverine Limited Edition Collectible Figurine was released in 2009 and featured the first ever Hot Toys hirsute muscular figure body. You can check out my reviews HERE, HERE and HERE.
I have recently covered the Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine 12-inch Figure HERE and HERE
Here's a picture of some of the other Wolverine figures I have that are not 1:6 scale, besides the Medicom Toy Wolverine figures. Certainly would like to see Square Enix's take on Wolverine as part of their Play Arts Kai series.

My favorite is still the Wolverine from X-Men Origins.
ReplyDeleteThe Medicom Marvel Series will always have a place in my heart. They were the first "high end" 1/6th figures i bought years ago. The fabric costumes that hid most, if not all of the joints blew me away, plus the comic styling made them irresistible. Wish they cranked out much more! Gambit, Professor X, Ice Man, Archangel and Forge would've been so cool !!
