A flamethrower is a mechanical incendiary device designed to project a long, controllable stream of fire. They were first used by the Greeks in the 1st Century AD. In modern times, they were used during World War I, and more widely in World War II. Modern flamethrowers were first used during the trench warfare conditions of World War I; their use greatly increased in World War II. They can be vehicle mounted, as on a tank, or man-portable.
Somebody must have thought it would be cool to have Stormtroopers armed with flamethrowers for "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" and hence the First Order Flametrooper was born.
Commonly known as "roasters", "hotheads" or "burnouts" by Resistance fighters, First Order flametroopers were best used to flush out enemy entrenchments, with standard infantry firing on those fleeing the flames. Flametroopers were one of three main types of weapons specialists assigned to stormtrooper squads of ten. Flametroopers and stormtroopers worked in tandem, as the faster stormtroopers could protect the slower methodical flametroopers while out in the field. The flame itself was nearly inescapable when directed at an opponent.

This is the recently released highly-accurate Hot Toys "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" 1:6 scale First Order Flametrooper 12-inch collectible figure, specially crafted based on the image of First Order Flametrooper in the latest Star Wars film. Highlighting the features are the sleek designed Flametrooper helmet and armor, the trooper’s signature flamethrower and backpack.
Although the Hot Toys First Order Flametrooper 12-inch figure comes in the same standard size box as most of the other Hot Toys Star Wars figures (except for Chewie and Darth Vader), the box is really packed with stuff and the alternate interchangeable gloved hands have to be placed in an additional clear tray that sits on top of the main figure tray.
First Order Flametrooper 1/6th scale figure Instruction Sheet: Equipping the Flamethrower backpack - the backpack attaches via magnets :) Next, attach the hose to the flamethrower
The instruction sheet also tells you how to attach the flame effect accessory for added poses and warns against removing any of the armor parts as they are non-detachable, including the helmet piece.
Here's the Flametrooper figure without his flamethrower. The Flametrooper's suit included a reinforced cyramech helmet with minimized openings, a narrow slit visor to reduce weapon glare, and supplemental breathing tank linkages. Other suit features included a temperature control body glove, integrated knee covers, heat deflecting armored gaiters, articulated greaves for greater foot movement, and positive grip boots.
Hot Toys MMS326 "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" 1:6 scale First Order Flametrooper 12-inch figure features: Authentic and detailed likeness of the First Order Flametrooper with approximately 30 cm tall base body that has over 30 points of articulations, and relaxed gloved hands. The costume consists of: a newly developed First Order Flametrooper armor, black under-suit, belt with pouches, and pair of white shoes
Shown in the picture below are the five additional gloved hands, plus flamethrower and flamethrower backpack. The flamethrowers were D-93 incinerators that were a combination of D-93w flame projector guns and backpack that housed twin outer conflagrine-14 fuel tanks and a central pressurized propellant tank. Also included is a flame effect accessory.

Each First Order trooper is different in their design even though they are all just black and white in colors, from the Stormtrooper to this Flametrooper and the Snowtrooper. Let's also not forget the all-black clad First Order TIE Pilot as well.
Check out the First Order Flametrooper's reinforced cyramech helmet with minimized openings, a narrow slit visor to reduce weapon glare, and supplemental breathing tank linkages. It's rather similar to that worn by the Snowtrooper (check out the action figure review of Hot Toys Star Wars TFA 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure posted HERE and HERE)
Here's a closer look at the Flametrooper's backpack which houses twin outer conflagrine-14 fuel tanks and a central pressurized propellant tank.

And there's also a chain dangling at the bottom. I really like how Hot Toys pay attention to all the minute details. You won't see this on a smaller scaled, smaller size figure.
Accessory (not shown): First Order emblem hexagonal figure stand with First Order Flametrooper nameplate and Star Wars logo. The display stand is pretty standard stuff. You can see it on my earlier toy blog posts HERE and HERE.

Regarding the propellant pressure indicator:
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought after 30 years after the last star wars episodes, readings on indicators would've gone digital! LOLOL!!!
It is quite funny that for all the high tech stuff he has on and is carrying, there's that low tech indigator on his tankl XD
