"The Main Man's word is his bond."
Lobo is an alien born on the utopian planet of Czarnia, and works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. The character enjoyed a short run as one of DC’s most popular characters throughout the 1990s. Lobo was intended to be an over-the-top parody of the Marvel Comics superhero Wolverine. In a 2006 interview, Keith Giffen said, "I have no idea why Lobo took off... I came up with him as an indictment of the Punisher, Wolverine hero prototype, and somehow he caught on as the high violence poster boy. Go figure." And Lobo seems to be the favorite DC Comics character of Stan Lee.
It takes a special kind of guy to wipe out his entire race because he was bored - that guy is Lobo, so if you want to get in on Sideshow's latest release in the DC Sixth Scale collection you'd better act fast. An intergalactic, well, bounty-hunter might not be the right word for it so let's go with badass, Lobo has come across some of the DC universes greatest heroes and villains with nothing but his loyal Dawg, trusty space hog, and panache for extreme violence. Woe be unto the being that threatens his beloved dolphins.
Sideshow's Sixth Scale Lobo represents an amazing step forward in product detailing, utilizing many newly sculpted pieces. Our Lobo Collectible Figure features: Detailed portrait of the Main Man himself | Uniquely sculpted aesthetic torso and arms to show that he's been working out | One pair of clenched fists | Another pair of hands to grip his pistol | One hand designed to grab his signature hook | Fabric costuming that includes a faux leather vest made from faux space cows (the vest features the classic "Bite Me Fanboy" patch and exactly the right amount of flair - Bigfoot, dolphin, Dawg, and Parental Advisory pins) | Boots that would make Kiss envious. Lobo also comes armed with: His pistol | His hook with metal chain

Wtf... This looks terrible. Sideshow seems to take two steps forward and 3 steps back. Their Star Wars, G.I.Joe, DC and now Marvel Lines have all been HIT or MISSES. Honestly, this Lobo figure looks straight out of 05'/06'...
ReplyDeleteTed's comment:
ReplyDeleteLobo was a favorite of mine from day one. At one point in time I had a "blow-molded" figure of him that was slightly larger than 1/6 scale. Giffen may have been surprised by his popularity by he was an instant hit with me and most of my friends -- especially those who were bikers.
I always got a chuckle over the way his side-kick DAWG was drawn because he had a very prominent "butt-hole" which was not typical in main-stream comics then.
The new figure is sadly, a disappointment for me. The original Lobo was always pure white with bright red eyes and jet black face paint. And his had a wonderful malicious grin.
This new green version looks more like a horror film character than the original "give em hell" guy.
