November 2016 Haul: Hot Toys Dawn of Justice Superman, Batman & Rogue One Death Trooper

Here's a look at my haul so far for November 2016. The haul consists of Hot Toys MMS343 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6 scale Henry Cavill as SUPERMAN Collectible Figure, Hot Toys MMS342 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6 scale Ben Affleck as BATMAN Collectible Figure AND Hot Toys MMS385 "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" 1/6th scale Death Trooper (Specialist) Collectible Figure. All 12-inch figures because that's the way I like them :)

Customers in selected markets who pre-ordered both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1/6th scale Batman and Superman collectible figures at same time received an additional Batman Tech Cowl as a bonus accessory. This is one of the many new sales gimmick Hot Toys is using to entice people to pre-order their products as many collectors have stopped pre-ordering and choose to wait for the product to be released before deciding if they want to buy or not, due to disappointments in the past. Many stores still carry lots of unsold Hot Toys products, something which didn't happen in the past but is occuring a lot more these days. Perhaps Hot Toys figures aren't so hot anymore. The high prices certainly aren't doing them any favors. While the prices may be high, quality is still assured. I myself have scaled down quite a bit and really pick and choose my figures very carefully.

The teaming up of iconic superheroes Superman and Batman in the DC Comics universe has always been referred to as World's Finest. World's Finest Comics was an American comic book series published by DC Comics from 1941 to 1986. Virtually every issue featured DC's two leading superheroes, Superman and Batman, with the earliest issues also featuring Batman's sidekick, Robin. See my earlier posting of a Brandon Routh Superman and a Christian Bale Batman Begins Bat as the World's Finest HERE.

I didn't get the Hot Toys Henry Cavill Superman from Man of Steel, a 2013 superhero film featuring the DC Comics character Superman so I was glad to order the two-pack so that I can have the bonus Batman Tech Cowl accessory.

Henry Cavill Superman is very different from Christopher Reeve Superman (Hot Toys gave us a preview of their 1:6 scale version of Christopher Reeve Superman collectible figure HERE - can't wait for the new place to display them side by side). Hot Toys also released the 1/6th scale "Superman Returns" Brandon Routh as Clark Kent / Superman collectible figure - see the action figure review HERE and HERE

The picture below is a closer look at the 1:6 scale Henry Cavill Superman head sculpt. Once again, Hot Toys hit the mark with their sculpting and paintwork. Right on the money :) You can check out the Hot Toys 1:6 scale Superman preview pics posted earlier on my toy blog HERE

Hot Toys MMS342 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6 scale Ben Affleck as BATMAN Collectible Figure with additional 1/6th scale Batman Tech Cowl bonus accessory. After the successful run of The Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman from 2005 to 2012, Ben Affleck became the newest actor to portray Batman in 2016 with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had put into motion a new DC Extended Universe, including a much larger crossover Justice League film in 2017 and a stand-alone film that is currently in development.

How does Ben Affleck's Batman compare with the most recent portrayal by Christian Bale? I like both versions for their different and unique takes on Batman. Being a huge Batman fan (I almost called this toy blog my BATCAVE), being able to see Batman on the big screen is a bonus so just keep them coming, DC folks and I'll keep on watching. Hot Toys Batman collectible figure comes with a lot more accessories than Superman (because Superman doesn't need accessories / gadgets) and they look really cool. Check out the pictures below.

Batman's arsenal of weapons include a black stand-alone FN MK 13 grenade launcher used by Batman to fire grenades, smoke rounds, or, as is seen in the film, Kryptonite rounds, which he fires at Superman and Doomsday. Batman also has his trusty grappling gun and batarangs.

The movie-accurate Hot Toys Dawn of Justice Batman collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Ben Affleck as Batman from the film. It features a newly developed masked head sculpt with 3 interchangeable eye pieces and lower faces, newly developed body which can naturally portray Batman’s muscular body, meticulously tailored Batsuit, detailed Batman gadgets, and a specially designed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice themed figure stand.

At some point prior to the events of the film, Wayne Manor was burnt down, with Bruce and Alfred relocating to a smaller glass house above the Batcave. Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne / Batman is darker possibly as a result of the Joker killing Jason Todd in some past confrontation, with Batman showing a lack of concern about whether or not he kills his opponents in battle and branding certain criminals with the mark of the Bat. See the Hot Toys Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6 scale Batman preview pics HERE

The Tech Cowl is a highly advanced, specialized cowl that Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth developed for Bruce's activities as the Batman. It was designed to have a built in voice changer and eye lenses that sink into the cowl to keep vision from being impaired at all times, with latter designs being reminiscent of a fighter pilot's helmet, as well as a holographic heads up display within the lenses. The cowl is made of an lightweight titanium alloy, protecting Batman's head from impacts and even point blank gunshot from a pistol. The lenses have infrared vision capabilities and can show information in real time.

Last but not least, there's the Hot Toys MMS385 "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" 1/6th scale Death Trooper (Specialist) Collectible Figure. This is the first time I'm having a Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series figure before the movie even plays in the cinema theatres :) Most times, you only get to pre-order the figure from the film and have to wait a while before ever seeing the figure in hand. It's always nice to have the figure when the movie comes out because the images are still fresh and you are excited to hand the movie-related figure with you. That's how movie merchandise and tie-ins work. It has been so for the smaller sized carded figures but has very seldom happened with Hot Toys figures. This is nice for a change :)

But the not-so-funny thing is that just before this figure dropped into my hands, Hot Toys released new pictures and pre-orders for the Hot Toys MMS398 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1/6th scale Death Trooper collectible figure (posted HERE) and Hot Toys MMS399 Star Wars Rogue One 1/6th scale Death Trooper Specialist (Deluxe Version) collectible figure (previewed HERE). This got a lot of people up in arms and totally flabbergasted because most of us have already pre-ordered this the Hot Toys MMS385 "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" 1/6th scale Death Trooper (Specialist) Collectible Figure. Given a choice, many of us might have gone for this deluxe version instead but are now caught in a pickle because we already ordered the Death Trooper (Specialist) Collectible Figure.

The Hot Toys MMS399 Star Wars Rogue One 1/6th scale Death Trooper Specialist (Deluxe Version) Collectible Figure's helmet will include an additional light-up scope located on the left side of the helmet, a different weapon (Special Forces DLT-19 long-range blaster rifle) and Stormtrooper doll plus Specially sculpted diorama figure base, all missing from this recently released MMS385 1/6th scale Death Trooper (Specialist) Collectible Figure.

By itself, the Death Trooper (Specialist) looks great, more complete than the Hot Toys MMS398 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1/6th scale Death Trooper collectible figure which is missing the black chest rig with three removable explosives / grenades

Here's a closer look at the black tactical chest rig with three removable explosives / grenades
