"It's them! Blast them!" Review of Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Model Kit

This was part of my January 2017 haul posted on my toy blog HERE

When I first found out about this Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Plastic Model Kit, I was most intrigued. I've done plastic model kits in the past but they were mostly of vehicles (planes and automobiles) and robots (Gundam and Zaku, posted HERE and HERE respectively) so I was really keen to see how Bandai would make this Stormtrooper Plastic Model Kit work. After the experience of putting this figure together, I am most impressed and convinced that this can work. This 1/6th scale Stormtrooper is 305mm tall, highly detailed and Bandai went about solving some of the issues pretty well, such as the placement of the two Blast Energy Sinks which has always been a problem with the Stormtroopers. The lens for the helmet is actually dark green translucent plastic and not hard opaque plastic painted green. The entire Stormtrooper armor is made of a shiny white plastic which is more movie accurate as opposed to the dull white of other 12-inch Stormtroopers. Although everything has to be assembled, no glue was required and every part connected easily and stayed connected without any problems. It was really quite a breeze putting this Stormtrooper together as the instructions were very clear, even though the text was in Japanese. The illustrations were so accurate I didn't need to know Japanese to interpret the assembly instructions.

I had bought two of these Stormtrooper Model Kits as I was quietly confident that this could work. Also one Stormtrooper is never enough when you want to build an army, PLUS two of these cost less than one Hot Toys figure :) Can't wait to get started on the second Stormtrooper. In the pictures posted in this review, I haven't put in the decals yet as I was excited to show off this newest addition to the ever growing Stormtrooper army.

The packaging is nothing to write home about as it's meant to be opened, used and then thrown away, unlike the boxes Hot Toys 12-inch collectibles come in, which are works of art that can be displayed as well.

Here's the Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Model Kit fully assembled

The Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Model Kit includes three weapons: DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle with open and closed bipods (based on the World War II-era German MG34 general purpose machine gun), E-11 Blaster Rifle (based on the British Sterling L2A3 submachine gun) and the SE-14C Blaster Pistol, which began as a Swiss Rexim-Favor Mk5 submachine gun.

Also included is a figure display stand and replaceable fingers pus a right fist.

Either the E-11 Blaster Rifle or the SE-14C Blaster Pistol can fit into the holster which can be fitted either on the left or right side of the Stormtrooper's belt. There is an extra joint at the ankles for more flexibility in posing. I haven't maxed out the poses yet which I will at a later period as I want to know how far I can stretch this Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Model Kit 12-inch figure.

You can choose between using either stickers or water decals for the Bandai 1/6th scale Star Wars Stormtrooper Model Kit figure.

At the end of the assembling process, all you are left with are these.
