Hot Toys Marvel's Daredevil 1/6th scale Jon Bernthal as Punisher Collectible Figure Review 1

This was from my most recent haul (posted HERE)

The Punisher (Francis "Frank" Castle) is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru, with publisher Stan Lee green-lighting the name. The Punisher made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 (cover-dated Feb. 1974).

The Punisher is a vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his war on crime. Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, who were killed by the mob for witnessing a killing in New York City's Central Park, the Punisher wages a one-man war on the mob and all criminals in general by using all manner of conventional war weaponry. A war veteran and a United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper, Frank Castle (born Francis Castiglione) is a master of martial arts, stealth tactics, guerrilla warfare, and a wide variety of weapons.

Jon Bernthal portrays the character in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bernthal is set to reprise the role in The Punisher, his own self-titled series.

This is the Hot Toys TMS004 Marvel's Daredevil 1/6th scale Jon Bernthal as Punisher 12-inch Collectible Figure and he comes armed with a M134 Minigun. An M134 Minigun is found in a weapons cache uncovered by Frank in "The Dark at the End of the Tunnel" (S2E12). He later is seen handling the weapon in the Season 2 finale "A Cold Day in Hell's Kitchen" (S2E13).

The box cover has braille code on it which spells "The Punisher" which I thought was pretty cool since the main character in the TV series Daredevil / Matt Murdock played by Charlie Cox is blind. The window display showing the figure and contents is designed to look like the Punisher's signature skull.

Hot Toys Punisher comes with GE M134 mini-gun, sniper rifle, revolver pistol, and dagger with sheath. Not a lot of weapons as I would have liked since he is the Punisher and guns are part and parcel of his repertoire.

In "A Cold Day In Hell's Kitchen" (S2E13), Frank is seen with a Barrett MRAD, or Multi-Role Adaptive Design rifle. The rifle is based on the Barrett M98. In "New York's Finest" (S2E03), Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) can be seen standing over Daredevil armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 327 Performance Center TRR8. The Ka-Bar (trademarked as KA-BAR) is the contemporary popular name for the combat knife first adopted by the United States Marine Corps in November 1942 as the 1219C2 combat knife (later designated the USMC Mark 2 combat knife or Knife, Fighting Utility), and subsequently adopted by the United States Navy as the U.S. Navy utility knife, Mark 2. And then there's the M134 Minigun.

The figure also comes with accessories such as a specially designed figure base with character nameplate and paper backdrop, damaged Daredevil helmet (not wearable on figure) and extra hands for posing options. The backdrops that Hot Toys has recently included with their figures are next to useless because they are too short and too narrow to be used as a display and I usually leave them back in the box.

Here's a closer look at the 1/6th scale damaged Daredevil helmet that is included with this Hot Toys Punisher set. I think the crack is not obvious enough and it doesn't look very banged up / damaged.

Hot Toys TMS004 Marvel's Daredevil 1/6th scale Punisher 12-inch Collectible Figure instruction sheet tells you how to put on the black leather-like coat and attach the ammo belt to the mini-gun.

It also shows you the movable parts on the Barrett MRAD (Multi-Role Adaptive Design) rifle such as the bolt and the foldable rifle stock. The Daredevil mask is not wearable and the usual care instructions for the figure are mentioned.

Here's Hot Toys TMS004 Marvel's Daredevil 1/6th scale Jon Bernthal as Punisher 12-inch Collectible Figure with the M134 Minigun. A distinctive invention of fiction is the hand-held M134 minigun, a concept which was popularized by the 1980s-90s films Predator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, wielded by Jesse Ventura / Bill Duke and Arnold Schwarzenegger respectively and most recently seen in Furious 7 (fired by Dwayne Johnson). Generally such depictions will totally ignore the weapon's need for external power, and sometimes even forget it requires a source of ammunition. In actuality, a man-portable M134 minigun would be near impossible, and highly impractical for a human being to either carry or operate.

The M134 Minigun is a 7.62×51mm NATO, six-barrel rotary machine gun with a high rate of fire (2,000 to 6,000 rounds per minute). The 1/6th scale minigun only comes with ammo belt. I included the bag from the earlier released Hot Toys MMS001 Battle Damaged Terminator set (see the pics HERE) as it looks more realistic with the ammo belt coming out of the bag than just hanging loose.

Check out the Hot Toys 1/6th scale Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher head sculpt. Once again Hot Toys doesn't disappoint in this area. There is a major sore point and that is the body used for this figure. The elbows are not double-jointed but uses a rotating hinge instead. This greatly restricts the articulation in the arms as you cannot close the gap between forearm and biceps. Because of this, many poses are not possible and that's such a waste when everything else looks so promising.

The picture below shows Hot Toys TMS004 Marvel's Daredevil 1/6th scale Jon Bernthal as Punisher 12-inch Collectible Figure armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 327 Performance Center TRR8. What's missing is the holster for the weapon. There's no way for this Punisher to store his gun securely on his body. Same goes with the Ka-Bar knife. There are no straps for him to secure it anywhere on his person.
