V for Vendetta is a 2006 American-German political action thriller film directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis, based on the 1982 Vertigo graphic novel of the same name by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Set in the United Kingdom in a near-future dystopian society, Hugo Weaving portrays V—an anarchist freedom fighter who stages a series of terrorist attacks and attempts to ignite a revolution against the brutal fascist regime that has subjugated the United Kingdom and exterminated its opponents in concentration camps. Natalie Portman plays Evey, a working class girl caught up in V's mission, and Stephen Rea portrays the detective leading a desperate quest to stop V.
Hugo Weaving plays V: A charismatic and skilled freedom fighter who was the unwilling subject of experimentation by Norsefire. James Purefoy was originally cast as V, but left six weeks into filming, citing difficulties wearing the mask for the entire film. He was replaced by Weaving, who had previously worked with Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers on The Matrix series.
The film has been seen by many political groups as an allegory of oppression by government; libertarians and anarchists have used it to promote their beliefs. Activists belonging to the group Anonymous use the same Guy Fawkes mask popularized by the film when they appear in public at numerous high-profile events, emulating one of its key scenes. Lloyd is quoted saying: "The Guy Fawkes mask has now become a common brand and a convenient placard to use in protest against tyranny – and I'm happy with people using it, it seems quite unique, an icon of popular culture being used this way."

Great news for me,always wanted this figure since I got into 1/6 figures about 3 years ago tired of all the hot toy remakes, thanx for the review now I can keep my eyed open for it
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, someone made a 1/6 scale V for Vendetta figure a few years back, but this one looks much better. Looking forward to seeing it, hopefully before the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool! I wonder if the face underneath will resemble Hugo Weaving.
ReplyDeleteHey Bill, I don't think there's a face at all. I believe the mask is molded to the head. As fas as I can recall, we never got to see Hugo Weaving's face in the movie at all. So this is movie-accurate :)
