Hot Toys Wolverine Review III - Going Topless

Continuing my post on Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS103 - 1/6th scale Wolverine (with life-like head sculpt of Hugh Jackman) Limited Edition Collectible Figure from the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)" movie (previous post HERE)

This is probably the first 1:6 hirsute figure ever produced. Meaning of "hirsute" (from Latin hirsutus = shaggy, hairy) i.e. one very hairy person. Once you strip off Logan's top which consisted of his brown leather jacket, maroon long sleeve shirt and undershirt, you realize that he is anything but hairy (hirsute). Well, not as hairy as he appeared on screen.

Since this is the first Hot Toys hirsute muscular figure body, let's examine the body more closely

And as a fellow blogger "Jason" rightly mentioned "The shoulders can still move inward and outward, allowing you to hunch or straighten his shoulders... and the neck has far more articulation than any previous muscle body. It's almost as good as a normal True Type neck. Almost.

... the body is a fair trade-off between aesthetics and articulation, and if you really think about it, you're not really losing much. The double hinged elbows are gone and the upper arm/deltoid area is a bit limited, but otherwise, it's still a very flexible body." Thanks to Jason for the added input. It's very well said so I thought I'll share it with everyone :) Helps us all appreciate the figure even more

No doubt about it, the realism is there. We no longer have to look at all those old type 1:6 scale shiny plastic bodies with the enormous chest and big rounded shoulders, this body of Logan's (aka Wolverine) looks VERY realistic indeed.

Some signature poses of Wolverine in 1:6 scale. I just lurve the shiny metal claws and how it catches the light

I think Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine was more hairy on screen but going by 1:6 bodies released so far, this Hot Toys hirsute muscular figure body has to be the hairiest - LOL

The top half of Logan's torso from the neck to his rib-cage is made of a soft flexible rubber skin encased over a more skeletal frame which allows for some fair amount of neck articulation as well as shoulder rotation plus front and back deltoid movement

Close-up of Hot Toys Wolverine's bare back. His waist seems rather small and you wonder how his jeans stay in place as you can almost stuff some chickens into it. He seems to be wearing a pair of black nylon underwear as well. I would've figured Logan for the more gung-ho type and gone commando. Certainly not in line with his character :)

Another close look at his shiny, metallic adamantium claws - NICE

I love the fact that there are no neck joint lines and yet there is quite a fair bit of neck articulation achieved

Well that's all the Wolverine pictures I've managed to take and the verdict is: Hot Toys did it again!!! This 1/6th scale "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Limited Edition Collectible Figure is the BEST mutant there is and Hot Toys is the BEST at what they do, and what they do is VERY NICE indeed :>

  1. hi Alex, did you know that the hairs painting oh his throat, below his chin is a real paint? I got mine scratched because I move his head and the result is some of his hairs (paint) were lost and there's only some hairs left just below his chin, lol ^^

    I wonder how about yours? I found the paint is easily gone if it's scratched by your hand even by his own chin (head sculpt) ^^;

  2. thanks for the feedback :) I didn't even realize that he had hair on his throat under his chin until you mentioned it because I never looked under there before. kind of a weird place to have hair. I'll be careful with the paint there from now on. Thanks again CHEERS

  3. Great review. This is an incredible figure by Hot Toys. It's almost a work of art. I did take the black boxers off mine to keep the dye from seeping into the plastic. The shorts mainly seem to help fill out the pants a bit so there's no gap at the hip joints, but black dye always bleeds into these figures.

  5. Hi!
Can I ask you something? Did you try do take his head off?
I bought one of these bodies in eBay to mach a Chris Redfield head I have. But I don't know how to attach the head! The ball joint is in the level of the shoulders...
Do the body have an extra neck joint to attach the head and the ball joint?
    Thanks.

  6. hey marcelo, i did not attempt to take his head off but found a link where someone did (http://supekutorumandx.blogspot.com/2010/02/wolverine-x-men-origins-mms-103-hot.html). not sure if it helps you. i did put some blu-tac on the neck post of my Tony Stark figure to raise his head higher. i know of some fellow bloggers and collectors who use blu-tac to attach the heads to the neck. Blu-Tac is non permanent and great for such things and also leave no scars :)

  9. Its not the head that's big, its the body since it has to covered with clothes.
Hi, can you try to put Wolvie's head on Leonidas' body? I wonder how that would look, i think the head will look more proportioned to Leo's body.

  10. This is something I'd like to get my hands on, would be awesome to add to my Buffy Action figures. Is it even possible to get a hold of one of these now for a reasonable price?
