Art-figures: Navy Seal Special / Lt AK Waters (Bruce Willis) 12-inch Figure REVIEW 1

In "Tears of the Sun", a 2003 American war film, Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) and his United States Navy SEAL Team are sent by Captain Bill Rhodes (Tom Skerritt) to the West African country of Nigeria amidst a civil war to extract a "critical persona", one Dr. Lena Fiore Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen by marriage. Their secondary mission is to extract the Mission Priest and two Nuns.

Bruce Willis produced Tears of the Sun through Cheyenne Enterprises, his production company, and took the title from an early sub–title for "Live Free or Die Hard", the fourth film in the Die Hard series; he filmed the sequel on condition he could use its sub-title for his SEALs war film. The actors who portrayed SEALs underwent a two-week boot camp; during principal photography, they had to address and refer to each other by character name — even off camera, to improve interaction. "Tears of the Sun" is the first film photographed on the Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. [ source: wiki ]

This is the recently released Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF Collectible Figure OR they could have just called this the "Tears of the Sun" Bruce Willis as Lt A K Waters 12-inch Figure because that is exactly what this boxed figure set is about.

This Art-figures 1/6 scale Navy Seal Special Forces 12-inch figure bears a strong resemblance to Bruce Willis as Lieutenant A.K. Waters as he appeared in the film, including the attire he wore i.e. Woodlands camouflage outfit plus gear and accessories. There is absolutely no doubt that this 1/6 action figure is based on Bruce Willis as he appeared in the 2003 movie.

All the items i.e. gear and accessories are packed loose in the box, ready for assembly. Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF Collectible Figure i.e. 12-inch Bruce comes with fully articulated body and is dressed in his Woodlands camouflage BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform - now that's an oxymoron!) of shirt and pants with boots. He also wears a black round neck T-shirt and white boxers under his uniform.

The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) were the fatigues that the armed forces of the United States used as their standard uniform for combat situations from September 1981 to April 2005. Since then, it has been replaced in every branch of the U.S. military.

This is the Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF 12-inch Collectible Figure head sculpt which bears the likeness of Bruce Willis (Lt A.K. Waters) as he is seen in "Tears of the Sun". Scroll down for more close-up views of the head shot.

US Navy SEAL Lt AK Waters (Bruce Willis) weapons of choice: M1911 .45 Pistol with suppressor (although in the movie, Lt Waters used a USSOCOM Heckler & Koch Mark 23), 03 x pistol magazines (1 + 2 spare in double magazine pouch) and drop-down holster, M4A1 SOPMOD assault rifle with sling adapter plus M68 Aimpoint scope and 03 x magazines (1 + 2 spare in double magazine pouch)

Lt Waters seem to enjoy bladed / edged weapons; he has three - (from top to bottom) 1/6 scale Emerson Knife, Ka-Bar Tanto Black Knife and SP4 Spec Plus Navy Knife. All knives come with sheaths and are meant to be attached to different parts of his body, as seen in the film.

Lt Waters also has his personal LCE (Load Carrying Equipment) consisting of H Harness webbing / LCE suspenders, Pistol belt with belt pad, 02 x ammunition pouches, M67 High-Explosive Fragmentation hand grenade x 04, water canteen and holder / carrier, and "butt pack" (2-day pack). Also included but not shown: AN/PRC-148 radio with throat mic and ear piece, radio pouch plus military gloves.

Here's the Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF 12-inch Collectible Figure otherwise known as Lt AK Waters (Bruce Willis) 12-inch Figure wearing his gloves and kitted out with his 1/6 scale Ka-Bar Tanto Black Knife and SP4 Spec Plus Navy Knife, double magazine pouches and left-hand side drop-down pistol holster. The Ka-Bar Tanto Black Knife is kept in a drop-down sheath on his right thigh.

The SP4 Spec Plus Navy Knife in sheath is secured around his left calf, just below the left drop-down pistol holster.

The AN/PRC-148 radio is kept in the radio pouch attached to his belt on his back.

There have been quite a number of 1/6 scale Lt AK Waters Navy SEAL figures released but I have never been persuaded to purchase any of them after getting the Action Trend version released in 2003 when the movie came out until now (reviewed HERE).

  1. I got him from AZTECA but have yet too pick him up. He looks great in my opinion (but I'm easy to please Alex). Once I get this guy it's straight to the outdoors for some "One Shot style action pics". great review my friend as always.

  3. OK Mr. Teo I got him all built up the other night, now I need to get him out to a nice "jungle" type setting for some action shots. I like him, he's basic yet he looks movie accurate (except his rifle had a fore grip on it which is not included in this set) but other than that I like him.

  5. I picked up this "Bruce Willis" figure a few weeks ago and man, Art Figures is good! Quality headsculpt is like that of Hot Toys, check out that detail work! Even though AF doesn't make figures every month like HT does, its worth the price... about 1/2 or 1/3 the price while still maintaining the excellent quality headsculpt. I can't afford to be buying figures every month anyways so I definitely get picky. If Enterbay & Hot Toys are the frontrunners of 1/6th movie figures, Art Figures isn't far behind.

  6. Enterbay has been getting a lot of flak lately for their lack of quality control, to the point that people are not pre-ordering but prefer to see the actual product in hand before deciding whether to buy or not, so that leaves only Hot Toys as a frontrunner. Art Figures offers us alternative non-mainstream (less popular) characters with great head sculpts, outfits, gear and accessories so I say to AF, bring it on! we'll keep on buying if you keep on delivering. Plus their price point is so much better and easier on the pocket. CHEERS
