Pirate Jack

Pirates have been headline news lately. Before there was Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from Pirates of the Caribbean, there was already a Pirate Jack in Walt Disney Pictures.

Pirate Jack appeared in "James and the Giant Peach", a 1996 fantasy film combining live action and stop motion, was directed by Henry Selick based on the Roald Dahl book and produced by Tim Burton, who also produced "The Nightmare Before Christmas". "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" was a 1993 stop motion fantasy film which told the story of Jack Skellington, a citizen from "Halloween Town" who opened a portal to "Christmas Town". Walt Disney Pictures decided to release the film under their Touchstone Pictures banner because they thought Nightmare would be "too dark and scary for kids". With successful home video sales, Nightmare achieved the ranks of a cult film. Jack even goes on to do a cameo in "James and the Giant Peach" as a skeletal pirate, complete with parrot.

Jun Planning released this figure in 1999 and I only got it because I'd been collecting Jack Skellington then because of "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" which was a joy to watch as the concept was quite refreshing, plus the fact that stop motion was used gave it a distinct look and feel.

Pirate Jack has a welcoming smile for one and all :)

Pirate Jack's jacket (oops! no pants) and medals

If Keira Knightley and some of the Hollywood starlets don't watch themselves, they could end up as stick thin as Pirate Jack - LOL

Pirate Jack's faithful companion and pet parrot who sticks with him till the very end

Extras include an alternate Jack head and skeletal hand holding pirate sword
