Playhouse could possibly be the new (unofficial) military branch of Hot Toys; after all, they have a history together. Playhouse used to be the factory producing all the 1/6 military gear and stuff for Hot Toys before Hot Toys went "Hollywood" and the sets that Playhouse has been releasing are simply stunning.
There was the exceptional Playhouse USMC Regimental Combat Team (RCT) from 6th Marine Regiment in Operation Iraqi Freedom (Previewed HERE - I've gotten it but yet to post a review) and then the Playhouse 1:6 scale GSG-9 low-profile version followed by the equally good Playhouse 1:6 scale 12-inch D-Boy Battle Of Mogadishu (Somalia) 1993 Operation Spy in Bakara Market military action figure (reviewed HERE).
Next on the list will be this Playhouse 1/6 scale 12-inch US Navy SEAL Team Ten operator and he's packing! Man, is he PACKING?!! Check out that loadout - this guy's armed to the teeth and then some.
This Playhouse 1/6 scale 12-inch US Navy SEAL Team Ten operator will come with US Navy SEALized custom Chest rig with 2 style shoulder strap (coyote tan), Hugger soft side plate carrier with sapi side plate carrier adapter(desert tan) x 02, Light stick panel (black), Armour plates x 02, Combat shirts (coyote brown + 3-c desert), BDU Pants (3c desert), Counter weight pouch (OD), "Bravo" type skull face mask (black), Magazine dump pouch (OD), MBITR Radio pouch (coyote tan), Battery NVG pouch, Small general purpose pouch (coyote tan), Single smoke grenade pouch(coyote), UA Tactical wristband (bk), Fancy stitched belt (rust), MOLLE Thigh mount platform(coyote tan), M60 Ammo pouch(coyote tan), MLCS Pistol mag pouch(coyote tan), McGuire 3-point padded suspender (bk), McGuire belt pad (bk), McGuire quick release belt (bk), H.A.W.G. The "SCOTT" headsculpt is apparently based on a famous US Navy SEAL Team member who was in a TV documentary about the SEALs - LT "Legs", from the documentary about Class 234.
Most interesting set of patches too. There's the [13] Reversible ID patch, [STAR] Patch, [SPARTAN] Patch, [U HURRICANE] Patch, [NEVER FORGET] Patch and US Flag patch (tan)
Never forget 28 June 2005. Operation Red Wing was a counter-insurgent mission in Kunar province, Afghanistan, involving four members of the United States Navy SEALs, which took place on June 28, 2005.
Three of the SEALs were killed during the initial operation, as were other American Special Operations soldiers (SEALs and Nightstalker pilots) whose helicopter was shot down while flying to provide support and rescue to the team. [source: wiki]
From left to right: Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Matthew G. Axelson, of Cupertino, Calif; Senior Chief Information Systems Technician Daniel R. Healy, of Exeter, N.H.; Quartermaster 2nd Class James Suh, of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Marcus Luttrell; Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Eric S. Patton, of Boulder City, Nev.; and Lt. Michael P. Murphy, of Patchogue, N.Y. With the exception of Luttrell, all were killed June 28, 2005, by enemy forces while supporting Operation RedWing.
Mmm..in dilemma over which to get....Soldier Story U.S. Navy SEAL SDV Team 1 or this ? :)
ReplyDeleteBoth looks great..with each of them has their own special 'stuffs'.
Hi ethan, I agree about each having their own special stuff. Do what I do - get both Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, you can purchase parts from each once the product is released as there are lots of e-shops that sell items loose. Others might have the same idea though.
I also think pre-order is a must if you really want to get your hands on your favorite figure at a good price.
Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteTempted to get both, but given a choice of getting a non-stop nag from wife or choose either one...would go for the latter..lol
Btw, so far all of my military figures are from Hot Toys and only 1 from Soldier Story (CIA SAD v2.0). Have yet to have one from Playhouse, so really playing with the idea of getting one, just to check out its quality.
From the pic, the M4 looks more realistic, and I like the night vision that comes with it. Furthermore, the only figure i got with a night vision is from the CIA SAD v2.0.
What would you advise?
PS: Fully agree with you, a pre-order is the way to go for the sure-buy figure
Hi ethan
ReplyDeleteBefore Hot Toys went "Hollywood", Playhouse was the factory that produced all of Hot Toys military stuff so that should give you an idea of the quality.
The HS is most interesting and nowhere near the top notch quality of Hot Toys' sculpts but the outfit, weapons, gear and accessories are pretty spot on and I've quite a few of their figures and IMHO the quality is all there.
If you had to choose, then I'd say get the Playhouse SEAL :)
my two cents worth
CHEERS
Thanks Alex. You have just "SEAL"ed my pre-order :)
ReplyDeletePS: Don't like the head-sculpt initially, but after reading your blog where the head-sculpt is based of and actually searched and watched the BUDS training/Class 234 on Youtube, it did change my perspective. Can start to 'feel' the connection rather than just some John Doe head-sculpt :p
Not sure if my first comment went through (had some error popup window). But if it's not, just want to say your 2 cents input just "SEAL"ed my pre-order ..lol
ReplyDeleteAlways glad to help a fellow collector ;> Viva 1/6
