Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Firefly Review 1

This was one figure I did not expect to buy as it wasn't on my "WANT" list but upon seeing the actual product, it became a MUST have piece :) I'm talking about the Sideshow 1:6 scale COBRA Saboteur FIREFLY 12-inch action figure from their "G.I. Joe - A real American hero" line

Sideshow's Backstory on Firefly:
Very little is known of FIREFLY beyond his proficiency in sabotage, infiltration and espionage. Early in his life, FIREFLY was brought into the Koga Ninja Clan, and his aptitude earned him the moniker of Faceless Master. Eventually FIREFLY attempted to aid COBRA COMMANDER in eliminating the man known as SNAKE-EYES as he was training with the Arashikage Clan. This attempt did not succeed but would eventually lead to future encounters with the G.I. JOE team and an ensuing enmity between the two. FIREFLY is ingenious in his capabilities with explosives and can employ them with surgical precision. He is quite frankly a connoisseur of terror thus making him all the more crucial to COBRA's agenda and all the more lethal to G.I. JOE.

As usual, Sideshow's packaging doesn't disappoint. The box is sturdy with magnetic closures and very nice graphics. I like the design with the red-white-and-blue feel to it.

The back of the box has pictures of some of his accessories and a description: COBRA Saboteur Firefly - Primary Military Specialty: Sabotage, Demolitions and Terror. "Even COBRA Commander doesn't know much about Firefly. His fees are paid into a numbered Swiss bank account and are always payable in advance. He makes no guarantee and gives no refunds." This last statement is really like how we want our dream job to be - a win-win situation.

The weapons and accessories tray which has a lot of goodies - one of the reasons that swayed me to purchase this figure

The main tray holding the Firefly 12-inch figure with surprise, surprise, an additional head sculpt and the case for putting his bombs (the other reason for getting this figure) plus extra gloved hands and the 12-inch display base with Cobra logo.

The Firefly 12 inch Figure features: Pro Body 1.1 with over 30+ points of articulation, Firefly portrait, Goggles, Detailed grey camouflage top with hood over Gray knit top, Detailed Gray camouflage pants, Detailed belt, Tactical kneepads, Grey waterproof gaiters and Boots.

Close-up picture of the additional Firefly 1:6 scale head sculpt (this wasn't listed in the original features list as only one Firefly portrait was mentioned. This Gray camouflage hooded portrait was a result of Sideshow listening to G.I. Joe fans' suggestion). This hooded headsculpt comes in grey tone camouflage to match his attire / costume. Three sets (pairs) of interchangeable gloved hands are also given.

Firefly's sidearm (handgun) is the HK (Heckler & Koch) Mk 23 SOCOM (Special Operations COMmand) pistol with AN/PEQ-6 Laser Aiming Module (LAM) and a removable sound & flash suppressor. Four removable 12-round pistol magazines are provided. The 1:6 pistol also has a movable slide and the barrel end has grooves for attaching the suppressor. It is all in the details ;)

The Laser Aiming Module (LAM) on the Mk23 pistol is very detailed as well although the colors / paintwork make it look less realistic. Should have stuck with gun metal.

Firefly also comes with the Austrian Steyr TMP (Taktische Maschinenpistole / Tactical Machine Pistol), a 9mm SMG (Sub-Machine Gun) with foldable stock, M68 close combat optic sight, suppressor and four 30-round magazines.

The TMP assembled with stock extended and ready to take on Joes

The COOLest item is the suitcase bomb. Comes with two cylindrical bombs with timer which can be placed inside the case and the radio detonator. The 1:6 bomb case is very well produced with working catches.

Other goodies: Two M-48 Stun Grenades or Flash bangs, Two Mk-18 Smoke grenades - one red smoke and one yellow smoke, Five M-67 Fragmentation Grenades and Four CS-50 Blast Mines.

The blast mines have magnets in them which is pretty cool and they repel each other when not stacked on top of each other (The space between the mines created in this photograph is due to the magnets repelling each other, creating a natural gap in between them).

Last but not least, Firefly needs a backpack to put all his weapons of mass destruction as well as two compass / grenade pouches and a radio detonator pouch.

The Sideshow Exclusive version of the Firefly 12-inch Figure included a unique feature available nowhere else: I.E.D. (Improvised Explosive Device) accessory.

Sideshow has upped the ante on this line with this 12-inch Firefly, their best figure to date. Firefly is loaded to the hilt with lots of COOL gear and the bonus head sculpt is a nice touch.

NEXT: I'll be posting pictures of the Sideshow Collectibles 12-inch Firefly figure
