HeadPlay has been churning out quite a bit of 1/6 scale head sculpts lately, mostly of famous people (by that I meant actors because almost everyone who has watched Hollywood-made movies will know these actors. Plus some Asian ones too). While some are hits, quite a number of them are also misses i.e. you can't tell who the head sculpt is supposed to resemble as there is hardly any likeness to the actual person / actor at all. But still the heads keep rolling (pun intended haha) and here are a few of the latest previews. Enjoy!
First up: Ian McKellen: actually Sir Ian Murray McKellen (He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1979, and knighted in 1991 New Year Honours for his outstanding work and contributions to theatre)
I only know him as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto in the X-Men movies and Gandalf the Grey in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" before he became Gandalf the White in the last two "Lord of the Rings" films. Check out Sideshow's Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings HERE and also HERE as part of my 2008 Top Ten list.
This time around, the sculpts are looking very cartoony. Several of them seem to be drifting into Caricature territory. Almost political cartoon, caricature. Although they show promising and great paint apps, some of them just look comical to me.
Sir Ben Kingsley (born Krishna Pandit Bhanji), a British actor best known for starring as Mohandas Gandhi in the film "Gandhi" in 1982, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He is also known for his performances in the films "Schindler's List (1993)" and "House of Sand and Fog".
He was most recently seen in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" as Nizam and as Dr. John Cawley in "Shutter Island", both films screened in 2010.
Sir Thomas Sean Connery, Scottish actor best known for portraying the character James Bond 007, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983 (six "official" EON productions films and the non-official Thunderball remake, "Never Say Never Again"). In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Untouchables". His film career also includes such films as "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", "The Hunt for Red October", "Highlander", "Dragonheart" and "The Rock".
He was knighted in July 2000. Connery has been polled as "The Greatest Living Scot". In 1989, he was proclaimed "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine, and in 1999, at age 69, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century".
Check out the other Sean Connery head sculpts released so far in my earlier posts HERE (titled "Between a rock and a hard place") and HERE (titled "No Country For Old Men")
Eugene Allen "Gene" Hackman, known for his role as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in The French Connection (1971) and its sequel French Connection II (1975), The Poseidon Adventure (1972); The Conversation (1974); A Bridge Too Far (1977); his role as arch-villain Lex Luthor in Superman (1978), Superman II (1980), and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987); Under Fire (1983); Twice in a Lifetime (1985); Hoosiers (1986); No Way Out (1987); Mississippi Burning (1987); Unforgiven (1992); Wyatt Earp (1994); The Quick and the Dead, Crimson Tide and Get Shorty (all 1995); Antz (1998); Enemy of the State (1998); The Royal Tenenbaums (2001); and his final film role before retirement, in Welcome to Mooseport (2004).
This headsculpt by HeadPlay looks nothing like the man at all IMHO. The worst of the lot.
Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda, the jihadist organization responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States and numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian and military targets.
He was shot and killed inside a private residential compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, by U.S. Navy SEALs and CIA operatives in a covert operation ordered by U.S. President Barack Obama.
Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi, Libyan politician and revolutionary, who has led the Libyan state since he overthrew King Idris in a 1969 bloodless coup and established the Libyan Arab Republic.
In early February 2011, major political protests, which were inspired by recent protests in Tunisia, Egypt and other parts of the Arab world, broke out in Libya against Gaddafi's government and quickly turned into a civil war. Gaddafi vowed to "die a martyr" if necessary in his fight against rebels and external forces, saying that those rebelling against his government deserve to die. On 17 May 2011 the International Criminal Court issued a request for an arrest warrant against Gaddafi for crimes against humanity.
The Ben Kingsley and Gene Hackman are so wrong - Kingsley's nose is just not right :)
ReplyDeleteThe McKellan is close, but the Connery pretty spot on, and Gaddafi's is unbelievably good (and, being made of plastic, looks even more correct!).
