Art Figures came into the spotlight when they released their Art-Figures: SAVES "Punisher: War Zone" Figure (review and pictures HERE) which blew everyone away. They followed that up with their Art-figures Navy Seal Special / Lt AK Waters (Bruce Willis) 12-inch Figure (reviewed HERE). Then there was AF-005 1/6 Avenger AKA Thomas Jane 12-inch Punisher Figure (pictures HERE) and the recently released Art Figures 1/6 Delta Force - SFC 12-inch Figure (preview pictures HERE).
The next product Art Figures will be releasing is "The King" and no, it's NOT Elvis Presley but King Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.
Upon Sauron's defeat, Aragorn was crowned as King Elessar (translated as Elfstone in Quenya), a name given to him by Galadriel. (In Sindarin this becomes Edhelharn.) He became the twenty-sixth King of Arnor, thirty-fifth King of Gondor and the first High King of the Reunited Kingdom. His line was referred to as the House of Telcontar (Telcontar being Quenya for "Strider", the name he was known by in Bree).
In the Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) directed by Peter Jackson, Aragorn is played by Danish-American actor Viggo Mortensen who took over the role from Stuart Townsend after four days of shooting because Jackson felt Townsend was too young for the role. (Townsend was originally cast as Aragorn to make the fans happy about a young pair of actors who had to do romantic scenes together. This arrangement proved to be a disaster as soon as shooting started so Mortensen was called in instead.)
In Jackson's films, Aragorn does not at first wield Andúril and only receives his ancestor's reforged sword in the third film. Elrond gives Aragorn the sword Andúril to acquire the service of the Army of the Dead, who owe allegiance to the heir of Isildur. Accompanied by Legolas and Gimli, Aragorn ventures into the Paths of the Dead and gains the loyalty of the King of the Dead and his men by brandishing Andúril, proving himself the Heir of Isildur.
Art Figures has been pretty spot on with their 1/6 scale head sculpts and that was one of the main attractions, aside from the pretty good quality parts and accessories but me thinks, going by these preview pictures released, they are OFF this time :(
It is great to know that somebody is picking up the slack left by Sideshow Collectibles which never finished the Fellowship of the Ring line of figures and left a lot of us LOTR fans hanging.
I'm also glad that Art Figures didn't start off again with Aragorn as Strider the Ranger which has already been done by Sideshow Collectibles (see pictures HERE) but chose to go with Aragorn as King of Gondor from the last film in the Lord of the Rings (LOTR) movie trilogy.
So what does a King of Gondor wear to battle?
Pretty nifty togs I gather. It's layered too so 1/6th scale King Aragorn is pretty much the same.
From past experience with Art Figures, I think the quality of their outfit and accessories should be pretty good and it looks like they tried to be as movie accurate as possible without having to pay licensing fees which translates to less cost for us collectors ;p
Comparisons of the Art Figure: The King OR LOTR 1/6 Aragorn King of Gondor 12-inch Figure with a screen shot of Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn taken from the film. If only the 1/6th scale Aragorn head sculpt was much better sculpted. I think the eyes are set too deep.
OMG! Ringo Starr!!!
