"Avengers Assemble" Preview Dragon Models The Avengers 1/9th scale Action Hero Vignettes

These Marvel Avengers “Action Hero Vignettes” were actually introduced before the Dragon 1/9th scale Batman and Bane Action Hero Vignette from "The Dark Knight Rises" which I had posted earlier HERE. Dragon Models, being a model kit maker, decided to go the route of models kits / statuesque figures instead of the articulated 12-inch figures which they have also become known for when it came to movie-related merchandise. No point in competing with Hot Toys for the movie license when clearly they are outclassed in the 1/6th scale department.

Official word:
Dragon Models and DART (Dragon Advanced Research & Technology) are excited to introduce our latest innovation in 3D technology, Marvel Avengers “Action Hero Vignettes” in 1/9 scale. Pre-painted and with just the snap of a few parts, you can have a highly detailed desktop display of your favorite Avenger!

A hybrid between a display figure and a kit, Dragon brings you the best of both worlds. The use of model kit techniques allow us reproduce the intricate details and sharp lines to maximize the usage of the official 3D character scans. The use of the static display concept ensures that there are no cooling lines on the torsos and no visible ball joints that are prominent in most “action” figures. Additionally, the figures are set in a Marvel suggested pose so that the body portions won’t be deformed when the poses are changed.

Scroll down to see more pictures of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Nick Fury and Thor :)

Captain America wasn't the first to debut but I've always had an affinity for Cap so I decided to put him first. After all, he did lead them into battle right?

Each Vignette comes pre-colored, unassembled, and includes a diorama display base. Pre-painted and with just the snap of a few parts, you can have a highly detailed desktop display of your favorite Avenger!

Iron Man was the first 1/9th scale Avengers “Action Hero Vignette" to be shown and Dragon Models did a pretty good job with him IMHO. The stance, the pose is very dynamic and displays Iron Man's awesomeness rather well. No light-up feature like Hot Toys 1/6th scale Iron Man figures though.

Dragon Models was able to put Iron Man (in the Mark VII armor suit) in an action mode versus the rather static stance Captain America has.

HULK Smash! Now that is signature Hulk about to do some smashing and clobbering (to borrow the term Ben Grimm as the Thing used to say). The problem is, although mentioned as 1/9th scale, there is no mention of the height of each figure. I really wanted to know how they stack up when placed together. It'll be nice to see all of them put together side-by-side and know whether Dragon got their proportions right. Hulk is supposed to be the biggest of the lot.

And then there's the Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. He finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, he began a daring recruitment effort starting with Tony Stark. Nick Fury never really gets into the main battle per se but he does get quite a fair bit of action before the climatic fight. No word yet or visuals on Hawkeye and Black Widow.

And lastly, there is THOR, the god of thunder!

Dragon Models says that the figures are set in a Marvel suggested poses so that the body portions won’t be deformed when the poses are changed. I think Thor has the worst pose of all which is why I put him last. The stance is awkward and odd-looking and in no way heroic or befitting of the character. The sculpting of the face is also the worst of all. There is no resemblance to the Chris Hemsworth Thor from The Avengers film at all!

There you have it. All the Dragon Models The Avengers 1/9th scale Action Hero Vignettes that have been previewed thus far.

  1. hmmmm unless these are offered at a nice price pointI don't know if there will be a huge demand. But what do I know...I do think in a display case they would look nice though.
