Red, White and Blue plus Green

What does the hammer, stars and circles have in common? They are all symbols used in some of the logos of the political parties contesting in Singapore's General Elections of 2011, of which today May 7 is polling day. Serious stuff but on a lighter note, the hammer, the shield (circles and star) and the green lantern are all an integral part of the comic-book superheroes making it to the big screen this year :) And that is why the same symbols are now a part of my new ToyHaven banner and will remain till the end of the year.

Thor and Captain America hail from Marvel Comics while Green Lantern is from DC. You will never see these three characters all in the same frame since they belong to different companies that created them. While Thor and Captain America will appear in "The Avengers" film, I doubt we'll ever see Green Lantern in any Batman movie, let alone the Justice League, because I doubt that there'll ever be a film made of them.

Thor has just hit the big screen with his enchanted war hammer Mjolnir, which can summon lightning and thunder! Shown in these pictures is the Toy Biz Famous Covers 9-inch tall Thor action figure. You can view more pictures in my earlier post HERE. Based on the god of thunder in Norse mythology, Thor is a member of a race of immortal superbeings living in the enchanted realm of Asgard.

And then there's Green Lantern of Sector 2814, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. Green Lantern is actually test pilot Harold "Hal" Jordan, who receives a powerful ring from a dying alien who crash hands on Earth. This particular articulated Green Lantern action figure is from Mattel's Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Green Lantern 8-inch figure done in the style of the Mego 8-inch (200 mm) tall action figures of the 1970s. Check out my post HERE for more pictures.

Finally, last but not least, there's good old Captain America, created in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby for Timely Comics, the precursor to Marvel Comics, as a political statement against Nazi Germany. Sickly young Steve Rogers is chosen by the United States government to take the "super-soldier" serum which raises him to the peak of physical perfection. He becomes Captain America and joins the war effort against the Axis Powers to fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty for all.

This Captain America 9-inch action figure was released by Hasbro as part of the "Spider-Man Origins Signature Series". You can view more pictures of Cap HERE. There was also the Toy Biz Famous Covers Captain America action figure as well.

Let's see how well the future bodes for us all (am I referring to the movies coming out soon or the election results?).

No offence to the previous banner U had, but this 1 simply rocks! I hope U keep it beyond this year until U have something even better than this 1!

    Cheers,
    Kidd.
