2008 Top 10 Toys - No. 7

For me, this babe deserves to be in the top ten list for 2008's fave toys. Why? She's Motoko Kusanagi and it's Ghost in the Shell!

Ghost in the Shell was created by Masamune Shirow, who became an internationally renowned manga artist after his work on Appleseed, Dominion and Ghost in the Shell became a phenomenal success. I had been collecting his works which were translated from its manga content, appreciating and admiring his illustrations on paper until "Ghost in the Shell" was released on film in 1995. Then I was totally blown away. The interpretation of Masamune's work onto celluloid by Mamoru Oshii was simply astonishing. Both Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell have since been made into films, showcasing his GREAT art and illustration.

Motoko Kusanagi by Alpha, previously previewed here.

Medicom's Motoko Kusanagi from "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society" (what a mouthful) - the BEST by far. Medicom certainly has a niche in anime, manga and tokusatsu characters. That cannot be said for their movie figures like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, including a ridiculous looking Joker.

Takara's Motoko Kusanagi, a Cool Girl version. Not very anime for my liking.

These three are obviously not from "Ghost in the Shell" or any of Masamune's works but you gotta admit, they make great props/backup for Motoko. They are Kerberos Protect Gear Panzer Cops, they look menacing and bad-a$$ COOL!!

Four down, six to go
