Motoko Kusanagi by Medicom, 2008

I've already covered Motoko Kusangi by Alpha and Takara in my earlier posts. This is Medicom's Motoko Kusanagi - Ghost in a Shell / Stand Alone Complex - Public Security Section 9, a fictional division of the real Japanese National Public Safety Commission.

Comes in a nice enough box without any twist ties

Medicom's Motoko Kusanagi out of box

The head sculpt is very anime accurate and very NICE!! How japanese gals should be ;p

Lurve her BIG ROUND ... eyes :)

Her weapons (Section 9's - Sebro C-26A and Sebro M-5 pistol) plus extra hands

Medicom's Motoko Kusanagi with Sebro M-5 pistol. She wears a skintight outfit similar to what combat divers like the US Navy SEALs wear and leaves us wondering if or when the rubbery skintight costume will crack, disintegrate and split apart. That's why you have to air it i.e. display it but not anywhere near the sun or strong lights. Leave it in the box with the humidity and heat and a meltdown is almost a sure thing.

She comes with extra clips for her pistol carried in a double clip holder on her belt but these are non-removable (sigh!)

Motoko has drop-down ammunition / magazine pouches holding two spare magazines for her Sebro C-26A but again, these are molded plastic and non-removable :(

She has a knife on her back (one piece molded plastic and non-removable) and holster for her M-5 pistol

She's armed with the Sebro C-26A assault rifle

Medicom Motoko Kusanagi now stands proudly with Deunan and Briareos, MGS4 Raiden, Biohazard 4 / Resident Evil 4's Jack Krauser and Leon S Kennedy

Gotta say that Medicom does a lot better job bringing anime and comic book characters to toy form han they do flesh and blood people.

Indeed, a very endowed figure...
GIAS has always been a favourite of mine, have watched the DVD countless of times but I've always wondered about Kusanagi's weapon, finally nice close-up shots of it.

Kick ass figure! I love Masamune Shirow's artwork, and how he creates tough female leads.

I think Medicom should have sculpted more detail into her hair though, to match higher-end statues of SAC Motoko, like so: pic.

Nice piece, but price is a bit high.

hi all, thanks for the comments :) just got back from a short vacation. Gotta agree with dash that Medicom's better with anime and manga characters. Like what Marcus and Tony said, nice b***s too! Always have been a fan of Masamune Shirow's work, even before it got translated onto the big screen. hey Nai, me being a big fan of GIAS, i had to get this figure, even if i'm now a poorer man from it but i guess spending money and being happy is better than those who invested in Lehman minibonds and got burnt big time - ha!ha!

Not really impressed with this figure. The Takara Cy Girls line also released a 12" Motoko figure that was more realistic looking and less anime. Maybe thats why I prefer that version. Also the costume doesn't allow any sort of customization not that RAHs are made for that sort of thing anyway. The hefty price tag also makes me balk but looks like a better buy compared to the Machiko 12" She Predator figure which is basically a 170 dollar statue.

hi there, i have also reviewed Takara's Motoko Kusanagi (see link above) but i prefer Medicom's anime take rather than Takara's realism as it's closer to the original rendition. Luckily for me, i got her at a very good price so that works out well for me too!

Do you know how come some of her armor doesn't match up with the colors on the box?? Take for example the armor around her stomach!? I really want to buy this figure, but it kind of annoys me because I think the beige color was a really nice touch.

Medicom isn't as passionate about their product as Hot Toys is so these things (imperfections) creep in but as this is the best looking Motoko by far in terms of anime accuracy, I just had to get her :) some purists would purchase the figure and then modify and upgrade it by repainting and adding stuff till they are completely happy with the look but as for me, I'm just sticking to it.

I think this looks awesome. I have a RAH son goku n thats cool. The only reason i didnt get this was the costume, they really should have done the lilac basque and thigh high outfit she wears and i would have got it. her outfit could have been overlooked for the functionality of the accessories with this costume but theres too much detail on this that isnt worth it -non removable this ,doesnt move that- at least the other costume would have been more aesthetically pleasing. they should re-issue her with the lilac costume!!!!

Hi Alex, FB account got hacked. Few friends got removed plus other stuff. It's back to normal I guess now. Managed to get my hand son 2 of these figures, and waiting for the CM's Corp Gutto Kuru figure to arrive.
