2008 Top 10 Hollywood movies

The top 10 Hollywood movies of 2008 worldwide (according to the Associated press) are:

1. The Dark Knight with USD996.9 million in tickets sold

2. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull with USD786.6 million

3. Kung Fu Panda: USD631.9 million (WHAT?! It was a nice and funny movie but top three?)

4. Hancock: USD624.4 million starring Will Smith wearing X-Men lookalike costume

5. Iron Man: USD581.9 million

Word from Hong Kong is Hot Toys is having issues with the armor pieces scraping together and chipping/scratching easily, so looks like it won't be anytime soon.

6. Mamma Mia! with USD572.2 million - Mr Bond (Pierce Brosnan) has gone from hot chicks to old dames :(

7. Quantum of Solace: USD538.9 million

8. Wall-E: USD507.3 million

9. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa with USD461.8 million

Much prefer the penguin quartet of Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private - they are very cool in a Special Ops way.

With this movie also in the top 10 list, it's almost like reel vs real because Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) and Ben Stiller (Alex the Lion) play prima dona actors making a Vietnam War movie in "Tropic Thunder (2008)". The film satirizes other Vietnam War films including Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, and The Deer Hunter, among others. Tom Cruise's role as Les Grossman, the balding foul-mouthed movie mogul and producer behind the movie was the total opposite from his action-movie roles such as IMF agent Ethan Hunt.

10. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - USD419.6 million

  5. Hi Alex and Kenny,

I guess its safe to say that movie publicity, anticipation, build-ups and hype are much more important nowadays.....People pay good money to see a movie, in this case, millions of Indy fans paid to see 'Skull....THEN they get disappointed! :p In any case, worldwide ticket sale doesn't indicate the true quality of the movie...heheheh. Funny thing...

  6. hi rebel, you nailed it on the head with that observation. No repeat screenings unlike Transformers where the moment you come out, you just want to go right back in for another screening :)
