"GoldenEye (1995)" is the seventeenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. In the film, Bond fights to prevent an arms syndicate from using the GoldenEye satellite weapon against London in order to cause a global financial meltdown.

Interestingly enough, Bond was created in January 1952 by British journalist Ian Fleming while on holiday at his Jamaican estate, Goldeneye. The hero was named after the American ornithologist James Bond, a Caribbean bird expert and author of the definitive field guide book Birds of the West Indies. Fleming, a keen birdwatcher, had a copy of Bond's field guide at Goldeneye.
Fleming once said in a Reader's Digest interview, "I wanted the simplest, dullest, plainest-sounding name I could find, 'James Bond' was much better than something more interesting, like 'Peregrine Carruthers.' Exotic things would happen to and around him, but he would be a neutral figure — an anonymous, blunt instrument wielded by a government department.

The inside flap reads: "After a six-year gap since the previous 007 film, Pierce Brosnan brings James Bond into the 1990s in this spectacular adventure. Bond's mission is to retrieve a Russian weapons system called GoldenEye before the Janus crime syndicate cripples London and destroys the world's financial markets."
GoldenEye was released in 1995 after legal disputes forced a six-year hiatus in the series, during which Timothy Dalton resigned from the role of James Bond and was replaced by Pierce Brosnan. M was also recast, with actress Judi Dench becoming the first woman to portray the character, replacing Robert Brown. GoldenEye was the first Bond film made after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, which provided a background for the plot. [source: wiki]
A heart stopping bungee jump, followed by a motorbike chasing a plane off the edge of a mountain,is just for starters. 007's assignment takes him to Monte Carlo, St. Petersburg and Cuba to bring down his friend turned enemy, Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) and the beautiful but deadly Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), a Georgian lust murderer and Trevelyan's henchwoman. A sadomasochist, she enjoys torturing her enemies between her strong thighs.
Action Man's Limited Edition 1/6 scale James Bond 12-inch collector's figure wears what James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) wore at the beginning of the film i.e. all black shirt and pants, assault vest, belt with pouches and detonator, his Omega Seamaster watch and black boots. He is armed with a Walter P-99 with suppressor (in the film, it's a Walther PPK with suppressor) and Grapple gun.
"GoldenEye" boasts a lot of firsts: the first appearance of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, the first female M (Dame Judi Dench) and the first Bond film with a non-Ian Fleming inspired plot plus the first without Russian spies.
Bond, who had made his bread and butter fighting Russian spies, was without an enemy. With the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, it also spelt the end of the Cold War. Check out my earlier post "Fall of the Wall, 20 years on" - makes for a most interesting read.
A closer look at the Action Man Walter P-99 with suppressor. The Walther P99 is a semi-automatic pistol developed by the German company Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen of Ulm for law enforcement, security forces and the civilian shooting market as a replacement for the Walther P5 and the P88.
And here's a look at the Action Man James Bond Agent 007's Grapple gun. After Bond's jump off a Dam, he uses the grapple gun to lower himself to the bottom. This opening 220m (720ft) bungee jump at Archangel, shot at the Verzasca Dam in Switzerland and performed by Wayne Michaels, was voted the best movie stunt of all time in a 2002 Sky Movies poll, and set a record for the highest bungee jump off a fixed structure.
And here's another look at the Action Man Bond-inspired figure. No resemblance to Pierce Brosnan whatsoever. More of a tribute to the character than the actor who played him. Hi Alex, it seems that the link to "read more" is incorrectly linked James Bond's pictures in your posting.
ReplyDeleteHi there, the "read more" link is to break the entire post so that only the top part shows on the blog and visitors can choose to read more if they are interested in the rest of the post. So sorry I'm not sure what you are referring to that is incorrect.
