The Enforcement Droid, Series 209, or ED-209, are a fully-automated series of peacekeeping machines created by Omni Consumer Products. During its first demonstration, ED-209 malfunctioned disastrously, blasting junior executive Mr. Kinney to death over a sustained period of time. Dr. McNamara and his fellow technicians struggled to gain control over the 209, having to pull some sort of plug to finally shut it down. Because of the Kinney tragedy, the RoboCop program was given the green-light.
This is the NECA Robocop 10-inch tall ED-209 Boxed Action Figure with Sound Effects and Dialogue that I got recently (check out my mid-March haul HERE). I usually get mainly 1/6 scale figures and accessories but once in a while, I find something that I cannot resist and this NECA ED-209 robot action figure is one of them. Sure I've seen the latest version from the recently released RoboCop reboot / remake of the 1987 film of the same name but I still prefer this classic version. ED-209 was designed to look impressive and flashy but it really isn't very reliable "under the hood". It got me at "Impressive and Flashy" ;p Scroll down to see the pictures
NECA Robocop 10-inch tall ED-209 Robot Action Figure comes in a nicely designed and illustrated box with its features printed on the back: Push button to activate authentic sound effects and dialogue, extending legs and fully articulated. To my surprise, I discovered that there are no instructions included with this boxed figure.
ED-209 is securely fastened inside the box with lots of twisty ties. Haven't had to deal with these for a while now since switching over to 1/6 scale figures.
Presenting the NECA Robocop 10-inch tall ED-209 Boxed Action Figure with Sound Effects and Dialogue. Scroll down to check out the turnaround views. This figure looks really good with nice details and seems quite movie-accurate. It is armed with three auto-cannons on two rotating gun platforms, with two guns on the left platform, one on the right platform with an auto-shotgun and a rocket launcher capable of firing three rockets. Hot Toys 1/6 scale ED-209 released in 2006 had four 20 mm machine guns, two on each side which was incorrect. You can check out the pictures HERE.
From the back, ED-209 looks like a frog ;p The battery compartment is located just at the bottom of the back. You can see the plastic transparent tab used to prevent the batteries from being activated. Once you pull off the tab and press the button on the right-hand side (see the next picture below), you will activate the authentic sound effects and dialogue.
Some of the design features on ED-209 are supposed to accentuate the "style over substance" comparison to corporate-designed low-bid automobiles, such as how it has metal grating around the front of the head like some modern SUV's - which apparently is only there to look "cool", and has no real function.
From a purely physical standpoint the ED-209 is ill-suited to urban pacification and police work: it has difficulty simply climbing stairs. But it does look pretty impressive!

The authentic sound effects and dialogue are activated by pressing the button on the right-hand side of the robot / machine. A timely reminder to remove all batteries if you have no intention to play with the sound effects. Batteries left in the compartment for too long WILL leak and damage the electronic components and you will end up with a malfunctioning ED-209. Hot toy collecting tip #1: Remove ALL batteries! Check out my post HERE.

The dome-shaped head of ED-209 is designed without eyes as eyes humanize the robot / machine
