Takara released the first Henshin Cyborg in late 1972. The Henshin Cyborg figure was based on the popular 12" (1/6 scale) Combat Joe body (also known as Japanese GI Joe). The toy featured clear Combat Joe figure with visible "cyborg" and "atomic engine" innards. Takara also released several accessories and a villain figure (King Walder) for the series but most notable were the fabric costumes for the cyborg. The costumes were from tokusatsu series such as the Ultraman and Kamen Rider. The concept is similar to Captain Action.

Thanks for this cool site! We'd love to see a pic of the henshin cyborgs themselves, both the vintage Takara and the new Medicom! We collect mostly vintage GI Joes from the 1960s and 70s including the Takara new GI Joe and Combat Joe series. cheers!
