SAS: Who Dares Wins!
Here are some of the 1/6 scale SAS CRW (Special Air Service Counter Revolutionary Warfare) 12-inch figures that have ever been released, with the Action Man SAS figures going all the way back to the 1980s. Up front and center is the latest released MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure. He might be missing some stuff (like the ear defender and helmet but it's still very well produced with excellent parts and accessories, and would make a great addition for anyone who's just started or intend to start collecting 12-inch Special Forces action figures. DAM Toys will be releasing a 1/6 scale Spetsnaz FSB Alpha Group 12-inch Special Operations figure soon (pictures HERE) and there's the awesome incoming DID 1/6 scale LAPD SWAT 12-inch figure with Ryan Gosling head sculpt (preview pictures HERE). You can check out all the Special Forces figures I've posted in my toy blog by clicking on the "Men in Black" label.
My interest and obsession with 1/6 scale figures actually started with the Action Man SAS 12-inch figures. I saw them on display at a friend's house and was instantly hooked. They looked so intimidating and awesome in their all black attire and gear, peeking out through the gas mask and hood. That was around 1994 and soon after, I began collecting my own 12-inch Action Man figures. That was 20 years ago. Time certainly flies when you are having FUN :)

Action Man is an action figure launched in Britain in 1966 by Palitoy as a licensed copy of Hasbro's American "movable fighting man": G.I. Joe. The first Action Man figures were Action Soldier, Action Sailor and Action Pilot. They were accompanied by outfits depicting United States Forces of WWII and the Korean War. Action Man was then developed with primarily British themes from 1970 onwards: military, adventurers, and sportsman, as Palitoy wanted to distinguish their product line from the U.S. counterpart. Action Man lasted until 1984 when Palitoy ultimately closed.
After the successful raid by the SAS on the Iranian Embassy in May 1980, Palitoy jumped on the bandwagon and released these Action Man SAS 12-inch figures, clad in their all black suit with grey hood and gas mask, bulletproof vest, Heckler and Koch MP5 sub-machine gun, Browning pistol with holster and belt plus boots. Over the years, I added extra weapons to their basic load to differentiate them. These have to be the earliest 1/6 scale SAS CRW figures ever produced.
In 1999, Dragon Models Limited (DML) released a 1/6 scale SAS CRW (Special Air Service Counter Revolutionary Warfare) 12-inch figure named "Nigel". Dragon had been very successful with their launch of 12-inch military figures starting with a World War II German Infantry NCO named "Hans" (reviewed HERE) and they followed that up very swiftly with their range of 1/6 scale Special Forces figures. You can see more pictures of "Nigel" HERE
Blue Box International (BBI) also released their version of the 1/6 scale SAS under their Elite Force 12-inch figure series at around the same time as Dragon Models Limited but the overall quality wasn't as good. I changed the assault vest, belt and helmet to improve the look. I had posted an entry of this BBI Elite Force 1/6 scale SAS "Clark" 12-inch Special Forces figure earlier HERE
Not to be outdone, Medicom Toys also released a 1/6 scale SAS (Special Air Service) 12-inch figure in 2000 under their Cro-Magnon MSFS (Medicom Special Forces Series). This figure is superb and is one of my favorites till this day :) In fact, Medicom Toys MSFS figures were all pretty good. Besides this SAS CRW figure of which I covered in much greater detail HERE, there was also the GIGN HRU (posted HERE), GEK Cobra (pictures HERE), Japan Special Assault Team (SAT) HERE and US Navy SEAL VBSS team member (reviewed HERE)
And here's the group shot of these 1/6 scale SAS CRW 12-inch figures. Click on the picture for a bigger and better view :)
