Review: Kaiyodo Revoltech Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo

continued from previous post...

In no particular order but it looks like Kaiyodo Revoltech Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo 5-inch tall (13cm) action figure is up for review next.

Michelangelo (Mike or Mikey) is the most stereotypical of the team. An easy-going and free-spirited jokester, Michelangelo wears an orange mask and wields a pair of nunchucks. He is the least mature of the four Turtles and provides the comic relief. Michelangelo has an adventurous side coupled with a love of pizza. He is somewhat of a "surfer" boy and is often depicted with a Southern Californian accent. He is named after the Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer, Michelangelo. His name was originally misspelled "Michaelangelo" by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.

Kaiyodo Revoltech Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures are based on the hit animated TV series by Nickelodeon and the turtles depicted here are a more stylized version than the original / classic version - you can see the Playmates 6-inch tall TMNT figures posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE. As much as I like the classic versions because they were what I grew up watching, I also like these newer, updated versions of the turtles as well. I just didn't fancy the 2014 film version of the turtles that was directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay.

Box packaging has a window display showing off the figure and all the contents / accessories.

Box contents include: diorama base of a manhole with sign post plus a connector for additional in-the-air poses, TMNT Michelangelo's weapons of choice which are a pair of nunchucks with chains plus a spinning nunchuck and an alternate head sculpt of a grinning Michelangelo!

Here's Kaiyodo Revoltech Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo 5-inch tall (13cm) action figure with his nunchuck in one hand and the other stored in a holder on his belt. Articulation of these figures are GREAT with ball-jointed head and neck, ball-hinge wrists and even ball-jointed fingers, plus ball-hinge joints for the hips and knees as well. Each turtle's individual characteristic is well depicted with the different expressions for each head. Raphael was angry and got even angrier to the point of fuming mad (see previous post HERE) whereas Michelangelo is smiley.

As I mentioned in the previous post, the eyes of the turtles can be moved to look left, right or centre simply by moving the knot of the mask at the back of his head. See the picture above and below for the different eye positions.

One thing about these turtles, you won't get any waist movement i.e. you can't turn the body left or right because the turtle's hard shell is in the way. However, there is still some up and down movement of the upper torso and the hips with the joint cleverly hidden by the belt.

The Nunchaku (often "nunchuks ", "danger sticks", "juan-tuo" or "chainsticks" in English) is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected at one end by a short chain or rope. The two sections of the weapon are commonly made out of wood, while the link is a cord or a metal chain. The nunchaku has been a popular weapon in movies related to martial arts, particularly popularized in modern culture through Bruce Lee movies. Bruce Lee used the nunchaku in many of his films, including Fist of Fury, Game of Death, Way of the Dragon, and Enter the Dragon.

NEXT: The third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle up for review is Leonardo (Leo) - the tactical, courageous leader and devoted student of his sensei, Splinter.
