Preview: Hellboy & Abe Sapien by Hot Toys

May already be old news but Hot Toys releasing Hellboy and Abe Sapien from "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" is GREAT news indeed for us collectors. The only other movie related 12" hellboy merchandise was released by Sideshow some time back to tie-in with the first movie. I have pictures of 12" Sideshow Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Kroenen and a kitbashed Nazi Occultist. I much preferred Mezco Toyz's Hellboy series which was true to Mike Mignola's artwork. Now Sideshow has become a distributor and gets their products from Hot Toys - no more competing for collectors' attention by outdoing each other, just monopolize the market, put in the mark-ups and pass the inflated price to us - sigh!

Thankfully for us in Asia and thru' good contacts and connections, we can bypass Sideshow and get the goodies almost directly, thereby ensuring that our pockets last longer, especially with the global financial crisis - sigh!!

Ron Pearlman (who was the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast" TV series) reprises his role as Hellboy. If you'd seen him in "Aliens: Resurrection", you'll know that he doesn't need much make-up for the role - now here's a mug even a mother couldn't love

Nice details of his belt and holster for his Good Samaritan

Doug Jones who also played El Fauno & The Pale Man in "Pan's Labyrinth (2006)" reprises his role as Abe Sapien. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro who also directed "Pan's Labyrinth" before this. You cannot help but feel that a lot of "Pan's Labyrinth" got carried over into "The Golden Army"

Is that some kind of liquid inside the tube housing around Abe's neck?

"Stop! Wait a minute, mister Postman..."

CG-13 Violent Interception Squad by Takara

Another Femme Fatale, this one's from Takara Tomy and she is CG-13, code name: Eris, from the Violent Interception Squad (VIS). Takara has coined a new term for CG. It's no longer just "Cool Girl" but "Cardinal-Garrison: Primary Defense Force" (still trying to figure this one out, along with SHOCKER (which stands for "Sacred Hegemony Of Cycle Kindred Evolutional Realm" - what's that?!)

Takara CG-13 VIS Eris in her tray with her accessories

Takara CG-13 VIS Eris' rocket backpack and weapons plus eight extra hands

Takara CG-13 VIS Eris out of box- very basic. She wears a rubber suit with nice chest armor with attachments for attaching her shoulder armor, belt, gauntlets, knee armor and heavy duty armor boots

Nice head sculpt, a little pale for my liking

Eris' backpack armor with slots for her rocket backpack, similar to Midori's

Her heavy duty armor boots

Her shoulder armor, super uber cool helmet, mask and shades

Her big a$$ gun (can't make out if it's a bazooka thingy or mini rocket ship) with removable magazine and laser pistol

Eris comes with a hood to put her hair in place before donning her helmet

CG-13 Eris Violent Interception Squad (VIS) all geared up in full armor

Her helmet dome seems to draw inspiration from Robocop's ED-209

Her rocket backpack in place (note the two rockets at the sides)

The rockets can be extended, retracted and tilted

Close-up of the side view of CG-13 VIS helmet

Eris also comes a "telescopic" baton, like what modern law enforcement officers use

CG-13 Eris VIS Laser Pistol (I'm assuming it's laser because she's so high tech and sci-fi - firing a weapon with shells just doesn't gel with the whole look!). Note her mask in place for full armor protection (just like MGS4 Raiden with his full face armor protection)

Her shoulder armor has an extra top piece that swivels

The top piece of her shoulder armor moves to reveal a catch for her main gun

Her main gun latches onto her shoulder armor's catch and helps her support the huge weapon

It's as BIG as Briareos' ENIGMA M-117 ANTI-MATERIAL RIFLE, more like a portable canon

Eris' laser pistol and baton can be stored on her belt as she has her hands full handling her main gun

Verdict: Takara CG-13 VIS Cool Girl is real cool!! I like the look, not too tacky

ZC Sexy Kelly - Femme Fatale

Ever wondered what would have happened if Mathilda had grown up under Leon's tutelage?

Presenting Kelly, Cyber Killer (?!?) by ZC Girl promoting their Eve body with "perfect shape, perfect pose, perfect body", says so on the box - you be the judge :)

Comes with a weapons case

Case opens to reveal Kelly's hidden cache of weapons - two Sig Sauer P226 pistols with tactical light attachments, a pump action shotgun and two knives (the case isn't very good because it doesn't stay closed even with the four latches in place)

Kelly armed with her BIG case, ready to hit the streets for some serious action. She carries her shotgun shells on her belt, in anticipation of some pumping action to come.

Her vest holds her two pistols in place next to her ample chest. Doesn't it make you want to reach out for her ... guns!

Her nice orange hair colour reminds us of another Luc Besson character - Leelo (Milla Jovovich), from the "Fifth Element", which also starred Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas

Kelly also came with a biker's hat but i ditched that because it's bad, plus she won't be doing any riding, if you get my drift ;p

Leon The Professional (1994) - revisited

Another professional hitman other than Duke Togo (Golgo 13) is "Léon: The Professional", Luc Besson's 1994 film starring Jean Reno as Léon, a very young Natalie Portman in her first starring role as Mathilda (she of Star Wars Queen Amidala fame) and Gary Oldman as a corrupt DEA agent Norman "Stan" Stansfield (now famous as Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon from Batman and Batman The Dark Knight). Already covered Léon earlier but this post would also cover BBI's Lucifer, Sniper Assassin because almost everything found on Léon is from Lucifer.

Léon is wearing Lucifer's black Polo T-shirt, "leather" load-bearing vest attached to a belt with holster for his .22 caliber Ruger Mk-3 pistol. The vest is very similar to the one Léon wore in the movie except that it is brown leather and not black. In the movie, Léon (Jean Reno) has many weapons but Léon's signature pistols are Beretta 92F models with compensators and suppressors. Léon also packs a black Smith & Wesson Model 686 revolver in several scenes.

Lucifer came with very nice accessories including a metal briefcase, two flash-bang grenades, and two baseball type CS Incendiary grenades, all with safety rings still attached.

The metal briefcase opens to reveal a fully dismantled AR-7 sniper rifle which can be assembled.

The barrel, main firing mechanism including trigger and a working bolt, and one spare magazine are all hidden in the butt stock which comes with a butt plate cover as well.

There's an additional heavier barrel for the AR-7 sniper rifle too. In the James Bond movie "From Russia With Love (1963)" starring Sean Connery as the MI6 agent (that role has since gone to Daniel Craig), Bond was equipped with an Armalite AR-7 sniper rifle (a production item which can actually be broken down and fitted into its stock) which he used to shoot down a helicopter. Lucifer also came with a .22 caliber Ruger Mk-3 pistol with two clips.

Finally Léon puts on his coat

Lucifer's coat (now Léon's) has a knife in sheath hidden inside.

Now where's the milk?
