New from Green Wolf: GWG-004 1/6th scale Galac-Tac Desert Raider 12-inch figure preview

Pre-order from BBTS (link HERE)

Mandalorian armor referred to the traditional armor worn by the human warrior clans of Mandalore. Common traits included a helmet with a T-shaped visor that concealed their faces, and armaments like whipcord throwers, flamethrowers and jetpacks. The Mandalorians' bloody history made their armor an iconic symbol of fear. The bounty hunters Jango and Boba Fett wore customized Mandalorian armor, although neither Fett was a Mandalorian warrior.

Ever wondered how the science fiction based Mandalorian armor from Star Wars could be applied to modern warfare? Galac-Tac is a set of airsoft armor that’s based on Mandalorian battle gear. Now, after a year of hard work from all involved, Green Wolf is finally able to show you the 1/6th scale Galac-Tac and Green Wolf Gear 12-inch action figure! Looks pretty darn cool :)

ToyHaven 3 – Work-In-Progress Report Part 2

continued from previous toy blog post...

I am most happy to report that the customised 98.5" L x 84" H x 19.25" D (2500mm L x 2134mm H x 495mm D) full glass display shelf which will be the centre piece of my new place (ToyHaven3) is coming along nicely :) Lots of stuff to put in and I'm not even halfway there yet LOL

The plan is to display Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6th scale figures because of the high quality finishing and superbly crafted pieces and it's going to take a while to get organised and choose which figures to display up front and which ones to be behind. The great thing about it being all glass is that I can also choose to display them back to back so that they face out on both sides. Still thinking about the many possibilities for display.

Comparison pictures of Samurai Taisho Darth Vader & Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett 7" action figure

continued from previous toy blog post...

Having reviewed both the Bandai Tamashii Nations Star Wars Movie Realization Samurai Taisho Darth Vader 18 cm action figure (posted HERE and HERE) as well as Bandai Tamashii Nations Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure (posted earlier HERE and HERE), it's time to put the two action figures side-by-side for a size comparison.

Star Wars gave us a lot of interesting characters, chief among them has to be Darth Vader and Boba Fett, two of the most notorious and famous villains we have ever come across. These two have been made into so many countless action figures that it boggles the mind but they have never been re-imagined and re-designed as Samurai warriors until now. And that is why Bandai Tamashii Nations‘ Movie Realization series for Star Wars has made such an impact, becoming one of the most sought-after lines in the collecting community. They are different, they are unique and they are beautifully designed and thought out. I already have four from the series (these two plus a Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure which I have reviewed on my toy blog HERE and HERE as well as the Teppo Ashigaru Sandtrooper which will be reviewed soon) and am looking forward to the Akonaze Royal Guard.

All the Star Wars characters being reimagined as Japanese warriors so far have masks and helmets which helps in the redesign. We haven't seen any of the heroes from the film franchise because most of them have faces (Luke, Leia and Han Solo) which might be a little more tricky to interpret. Still, I am glad that these figures got made and even though they are not 1:6 scale, I for one am not complaining.

Action figure review II: Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett

continued from previous toy blog post...

More pictures of Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure as part of my action figure review. The figure is approximately 170mm tall and comes equipped with a more ornamental looking removable jet pack, a small sword, several knives / tools attached to his calves (detachable), a flintlock blaster and an assortment of hands. The scope on his helmet is movable too and that makes it really cool. No issues with pose-ability and the figure seems to hold poses rather well. I really dig the feudal Japan and Star Wars sci-fi combo :) What's he doing with a jetpack? Does he even fly with it? I don't know and I don't care. He's just too cool and so much fun!

Movies and toys are made for our enjoyment and to entertain us so why do some people have a need to explain everything in a movie and asks questions like "That can't happen", "It's not real" etc. Of course it's not real - it's a movie, it's make believe and if it were real, they'll call it a documentary. Some films are based on true stories, like "Argo" where there is a scene which a soldier tried to break a glass screen / window with the butt of his weapon to no avail. In the end, he shot at the glass which shattered. That's real because tempered glass do not break easily as we see so often in action movies. Then there's Star Wars which is science fiction so everything happens because it's designed to entertain us. People start posting videos of how the destruction of the Death Star will have devastating effect on Endor etc etc. Why even bother? Star Wars does not exist. The planets do not exist. The aliens do not exist. Everything is imagined. It was made for our entertainment and were we not entertained all these years?

Let's just enjoy this really clever and nifty design which combines the past with the future (albeit a future that is supposed to be far far away, and also a long time ago...)

Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure review 1

This was from my December 2015 haul (check out the toy blog post HERE)

Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization continues with their Japanese armor styled reinterpretations of classic characters with Boba Fett, now dressed as a wandering ronin warrior. There are actually quite a lot of Japanese influences at work in the original Star Wars. From things like the name for Jedi coming from the Japanese word for period drama, that of jidaigeki, to all manner of nods to the films of Akira Kurosawa as well as the designs for a lot of the costumes much of what made Star Wars had a clear and somewhat traditional Japanese twist to it. So it does make sense that you could re-purpose the original character designs from Star Wars into a feudal Japanese setting.

A rōnin (浪人) was a samurai with no lord or master during the feudal period (1185–1868) of Japan. A samurai became masterless from the death or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege.

Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure is approximately 170mm tall and comes equipped with a more ornamental looking removable jet pack, a small sword, several knives / tools attached to his calves (detachable), a flintlock blaster and an assortment of hands. The scope on his helmet is movable too.

Action Figure Review II: Square Enix Play Arts Kai 1/7th Star Wars Variant 10-inch Boba Fett

continued from previous toy blog post...

With his customized Mandalorian armor, deadly weaponry, and silent demeanor, Boba Fett was one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy. A genetic clone of his “father,” bounty hunter Jango Fett, Boba learned combat and martial skills from a young age. Over the course of his career, which included contracts for the Empire and the criminal underworld, he became a legend.

Boba Fett stems from initial design concepts for Darth Vader, who was originally conceived as a rogue bounty hunter. While Vader became less a mercenary and more of a dark knight, the bounty hunter concept remained, and Fett became "an equally villainous" but "less conspicuous" character. Fett's armor was originally designed for "super troopers", and was adapted for Fett as the script developed. Screen-tested in all-white, Fett's armor eventually garnered a subdued color scheme intended to visually place him between white-armored "rank-and-file" Imperial stormtroopers and Vader, who wears black. This color scheme had the added bonus of conveying the "gray morality" of his character.

Square Enix designers have certainly kept Boba Fett's color scheme intact when they redesigned him for the Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1/7th scale Boba Fett 10-inch tall action figure. They have maintained the overall look but made changes to his pouches and armor design to create a variant Boba Fett that is not the same as the one we see on screen. Still, one look and you know immediately without a doubt that this is Boba Fett, albeit with a slightly different look. How do I find it? I like it, as much as I like the Samurai influenced Star Wars characters Bandai has been putting out. They may deviate from the norm but they certainly do offer us another look at a character we are so familiar with. Even though they look very similar in some ways (color scheme, helmet design etc) they also look very different at the same time. Variety is the spice of life :)

Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1:7 scale Boba Fett 10-inch Action Figure Review 1

What? No Bounty Hunter in the latest Star Wars The Force Awakens?

This was from my August 2015 haul which was posted on my toy blog HERE

Boba Fett is a fictional character in Star Wars. A recurring antagonist in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi as a bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones establishes his origin as an unaltered clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett raised as his son. His aura of danger and mystery have created a cult following for the character.

Square Enix has released Play Arts Kai Variant figures based on characters from the DC and Marvel universe in the past and has now included characters from the Star Wars universe as well. There's the reimagined Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant Darth Vader figure (previewed HERE) and the Stormtrooper as well (pictures HERE) but I find myself only drawn to this Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1:7 scale Boba Fett 10-inch Action Figure.

Pictured above is a close-up shot taken of the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1:7 scale Boba Fett 10-inch Action Figure shooting flames out of his gauntlet with the flamethrower effect included with this figure. I liked how the designers at Square Enix re-designed Boba Fett's outfit and armor while still retaining the characteristics / essentials that make him still recognisable as the famed Bounty Hunter Boba Fett from a galaxy far far away.
